A change in formation during the latter part of Wigan’s 2011-12 season transformed the fortunes of right-back and occasional centre-half Emmerson Boyce. Shifted out of defence and handed a role on the right of the Latics’ midfield, Boyce and fellow wide man Jean Beausejour patrolled the flanks magnificently to help secure Wigan’s Premier League safety over the final few months of the previous campaign.

Bearing in mind his side registered seven wins in their final nine matches last time round, it’s no surprise to see Roberto Martinez stick with this ploy. Having recovered from their opening day defeat to Chelsea, the Latics bounced back with a win and clean sheet at St Mary’s last weekend and, with a strong run of fixtures on the horizon, Boyce has climbed his way up our Watchlist rankings.

Priced at 5.0 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) and 5.5 in the Sky Sports game, the Latics man – who is classified as a defender in both games – offers us an intriguing mid-price alternative over the next few Gameweeks and, as Martinez’s men square up to a kind run of opponents (STO, mun, FUL, sun, EVE, swa), Boyce has the potential for points at both ends of the pitch. Granted, the Gameweek 4 clash with United stands out in this short term fixture list but, as Wigan’s 1-0 home win over the Red Devils last season showed, it will not be an encounter that is likely to intimidate Martinez.

In his six years at the club, Boyce has only scored seven goals for Wigan but, with three of those goals arriving during last season’s formation shift, savvy managers will have spotted his strong potential for points over the coming campaign. The last fixture of 2011/12 saw him bag a brace against Wolves, including a spectacular volley, highlighting the attacking capabilities of the former Barbados international.

Already this season we have seen how integral Boyce’s delivery from the flank is to Wigan’s game plan. His well worked cross, that ultimately Manuel Figueroa failed to convert, proved to be the Latics’ best attempt on goal during the first half of their 2-0 victory over Southampton. While he’s yet to pick up an assist, Boyce has done enough to suggest he could well be on the cusp of attacking returns as Martinez looks to build on their Gameweek 2 triumph and avoid the customary battle to beat the drop.

Yeah I watched it and I don't mean to sound cruel but at that age... I've seen better. Considering the whole lack of feet thing he is phenomenal but can he actually shoot, dribble past players etc? I'm not expecting keep ups in the video but are these teams actually interested in him or just doing this as a sign of goodwill and charity?

    de Gea (sou)
Rangel (SUN), Zabaleta (QPR), Clark (new)
Noble (FUL), Kagawa (sou), Michu (SUN), Yaya (QPR), Bale (NOR)
    Tevez (QPR), Graham (SUN)

    Subs: Federici (—), Torres (—), Harte (—), Ivanovic (—)
Got 0.5 in bank, 0 FT

Should I make a hit? I'm worried that someone will be rotated or get injury.
I could do Ivanovic->Baines but I won't be able to do Bale->Hazard after GW 3.

Surely the fact that Figuerea was the one who missed the chance and is cheaper, the article should be about him not Boyce. Anyway both are fine for for the next 3 GWs, but I reckon Cuellar from gw5 on should get a lot more clean sheets than them anyway.

McCartney has nearly 3x the number of owners as Demel.

One the back of pre-season though it looked like Demel was more assured a spot that McCartney, so popular opinion here was to go with the less risky of the two.

Seems they are both pretty nailed on though at the moment.

Who wants to hazard a guess about when Hazard will rise (now that's a hazard!) or when the next "does anyone want to hazard a guess about something to do with Hazard" comes up?

    1) Is doubling up on united defence a bad idea i.e. ddg and rafael? as opposed to ddg and rangel..high risk, high returns?
    2) between lennon, fellani, pienaar and mclean? who would you recommend? most ppl will recommend fellani or pienaar but i am leaning for lennon coz spurs have home fixtures while everton have away fixtures...

    thoughts?

Just been pondering the whole RVP or Tevez captaincy this weekend. Swinging towards Tevez still, even though on paper RVP is the better option. My choice is based on "I really think Southampton will score." My reasoning is that if Soton will 1 or 2 it also reduces the likelihood of RVP getting maximum bonus since a Soton player(s) will be in the mix. I can't see QPR being a threat to Man City especially after what happened last year, Mancini will want to set an example. Also a draw V Pool will want City going all out for those 3 points on the table.... thoughts?

I am going Tevez purely because he is on fire, QPR aren't and City are at home, and will likely have a point to prove as even though know they were lucky to even get a goal at Anfield.

If Soton scores, united will need to score a couple of more goals..
This question is just so hard, impossible to make out with stats and reasonable thinking.. I will go for RvP most likely, but I might just toss a coin (for real)

ManU's lose to everton and close win against Fulham will be revving them up for the forseeable future, they will get a few dangerous//murderous words from SAF and they are gonna be going all out on any team they come across. Feel Southampton might get a spanking, RVP being the main man with the fact he is doing everything on paper.
