The Rate My Team Tool (RMT) for members, rolled out on January 1, has been updated with some recent UI improvements, browser compatibility fixes and now also reflects the latest transfer moves and double Gameweeks.

Following yesterday’s FA Cup victory for Chelsea, we’ve added their additional fixture with Southampton to give both teams a double Gameweek and this is now shown in RMT for the players involved. The likes of Daniel Sturridge, Demba Ba and Joe Cole have also been moved to their new clubs so you can start building them into your RMT lineups to see how they are predicted to fare in the coming weeks. We will be updating RMT throughout the week as more team news comes in and the FPL update their squads with new player arrivals and players have their departure to the African Cup of Nations confirmed. I’ll keep members posted on the major updates each week.

In terms of fixes and improvements, following feedback from those using the tool early on, we’ve changed the method of removing players in order to make the took compatible with mobile devices. There have also been fixes for Internet Explorer and Chrome users.

There are still some bugs remaining in the “My Team” section when building a team from scratch. We’re looking to eliminate those, although we do plan to re-write the UI code for next season, so we’re aware that, with the comments system development our focus, some improvements may be shelved until the summer.

Nevertheless, RMT is up and running and providing our members with a new method of testing their theories, future transfers and team selection. During these Winter Wildcard times, it’s hopefully providing a useful new guide.

If you’re not a member and would like some more information on Rate My Team and how it can help you, view our two part previews, with part one here, and part two via this link. Half-Season memberships remain available for £10 with full information on the benefits, in addition to RMT, available via this page.

One query that has been raised which, perhaps requires further explanation, is based on the My Team view which recommends players in your squad that should be benched as subs in each Gameweek. Some users have noticed that RMT sometimes recommends players to be benched, even though they are predicted to score more heavily than a player in your lineup.

This is because RMT uses a probability of a player playing in a given Gameweek to calculate the average score shown in the table. However, behind the scenes, RMT also looks at a player’s likely score assuming that the player takes part in the match – e.g: it ignores the possibility that the player plays zero minutes. On occasions when this value is greater, it overrides the displayed average points when it comes to recommending your starting XI. As an example, if Robin Van Persie was a major doubt for Gameweek 22, RMT could still recommend playing him above another striker in your squad, even though the value shown to the user in the RMT table might be lower. As we know, you would often play Van Persie in this scenario and let the auto-subs take care of the rest: this tactic is reflected as a feature in the tool.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

My minileague. Some guys from work, two of my brothers, friends of friends, etc. We have an MLS player in our minileague, but he borders on being a GhostTeam. Woke up a couple weeks ago, but nothing last week.

I do a weekly wrapup of real EPL matches, how our FPL teams did, and occasionally take a stab at predicting their roster moves.

Then when the Cup rolls around, I go into Google Stalker mode and try to track down the individuals we are matched against so that it's more personal. Some interesting profiles out there and it really isn't hard to find most people. During the Cup run, I do a Preview email and a Wrapup email.

For gw23 would you rather have

    1. Taraabt (whm) & Podolski (che,WHM)

    2. J.Cole (QPR,ars) & Berbatov (mcy)

    3. J.Cole (QPR,ars) & Podolski (che,WHM) -4 points

Wildcarding after so long term isn’t an issue, gw23 only. Ta.

      Ramirez - dead leag
      Lallana - out

These injuries will affect their offensive performance. Soton attack isn't really appealing despite the DGW.

Just save the cash and pick Puncheon.

Davies is the pick if you want a cheapo def.

Turner is the safe bet. Whittaker may take Martin's spot down the line.

Wisdom for the next 6 weeks while Enrique is out; however the fixtures are horrible.

      Billy Jones.

Jags i very expensive considering Everton's lack of CS's. Downgrade him to another 4m def and upgrade Pienaar to Fellaini.

      Next week get Walcott

With so many good, relatively cheap attacking defenders available and not tons of value in midfield any more, is anybody considering going 5 at the back?

I could have a back 5 of Baines, Luiz, Zabaleta, Rafael and Sagna and still have a decent forward line and midfield...

I guess that didn't go down too well. Personally I don't think this would be a bad team:

      Begovic. Bunn
      Baines, Luiz, Zabaleta, Rafael, Sagna
      Cazorla, Mata, Silva, Michu, Puncheon
      RVP, Berbatov, Pog

      Nope...
There may not be "value" in midfield, but there isn't "value" with those defs either. At some point you have to just pay for production. The time to identify the value is in the first ten GW, before the whole world gets on board.

Wild card dilemma here - can't have them all, but who should I choose of these

    Bale or Suarez?
(= bale + lambert and then lambert => podo next weeek or michu/fellaini + suarez)

    Fellaini or Michu?

Atm my front 8 is Mata, Walcott, Fellaini, Michu, Punch, Rvp, Ba, Suarez and problem there is difficulty to get Bale in at least for gw24.

If you don't lose much value on Michu I think he is most expendable for a couple of weeks.
I'm not sold on Suarez for the next few as he ties up a heap of cash as a non DGW player.
Bale will destroy QPR this GW.

GW 24 seems so far away! Who knows what may happen between now and then. BUT could look at Dzeko for Ba to free some funds for a MF upgrade?

thanks, I'll lose 0.3 on michu, but I think Fellaini's fixtures are too good to ingnore for next 4.

I'm tempted to do michu + suarez => bale + lambert.
It looks great for this gw, but if bale gets a blank this week + then suarez has NOR next gw - ooh how pissed I'm for my trannies then!

Too scared to makes any moves tbh..

          I am too. 🙁

I have no Che and only Punchy so I feel I have to use my only WC. I have been looking at the pro's and cons of trading out Michu, Felon and Bale for Mata since the DGW was first thought about and have decided on ... uhhh, nothing. Everyone is split.
I would lose .3 on Michu too and with my terrible SV I know I'd struggle to get him back.

I don't think SOT will keep 2 cs. They have a 30% chance of keeping a cs at A.Villa imo. Chelsea 0-5%. But keeping Shaw as a 4M cheapie staying there is not a problem. I do expect SOT to score some goals at Villa which is why i am willing to gamble on two attacking options. Which are going to be replaced anyway.

The first game scoreline could easily be reversed to our advantage ( or disadvantage depending on your attacking Southampton players)....But I agree about the others.

Also Southampton could nick a goal, against Chelsea. So it's hard to predict cleansheets, but I would keep one Chelsea defender at least

Not sure what you mean by "worth a punt". One of top scoring defenders and has a short run of good matches coming up. Clean sheets have been missing, but he's on pens and takes tons of free kicks and is always on the attack. You don't have money to afford him though, without dropping somebody else significantly. Who are you considering ditching?

I had baines for most of season but finally cut him loose to make upgrades elsewhere. He's very pricey and even though I wear my heart on my grav, I think he's overpriced. Everton doesn't keep the clean sheets that they used to. They are scoring more this year and conceding more. Better results overall, but it means a lot of the "six plus bap" that he used to rack up have gone bye-bye.

TW. If I had Ba I would definitely keep. And I may well get him on my WC. But i wouldn't get him in this week, at least for a hit, and certainly not to replace the 2nd top scorer in the league.

NB Don't get me wrong. If he does play against southampton, he could go mental and score 5. So i'm not warning you off him entirely. I just won't be bringing him in myself.

see i'm afraid of him going mental vs southampton and i could even see him scoring one vs stoke.

logically i think that shipping suarez for ba is by far the riskier move (though i feel it could pay off more if it goes right) but my heart/gut says to do it

Answering it would imply that I have some kind of insight into that nutjob Rafa's mind and that is NOT a place that I want to be looking around in.

To be honest, all that all of us are doing is speculating and hoping. Wouldn't shock me in the least if either player played 180 or played 90. Think that Chelsea is not very likely to keep two clean sheets, so I don't see a pair of sixes coming up from Azpil, but I think he may log more minutes between the two matches. Stoke has only been shut out twice in ten home matches and Southhampton has been only shut out four times in twenty matches overall. Factor in a backup keeper for Chelsea and I'd be surprised if they keep even one clean sheet. Ba can clearly score against anybody, but there is only one ball and a lot of attack on that team. Flip a coin, tell everybody you knew what you were doing when you come up a winner, and move on to the next dilemma.

Not being harsh, I've just spun my head around this so much already that I'm sick of it and we still have almost a week to go. Blerrrggghhh I hate these long breaks.
