Our Friday lunchtime regular is rolled out once more as we scour the PlayON Player Price List ahead of tomorrow’s 10.45am deadline. We’ll be offering a couple of picks per position this term, with an essential weekend target and a left-field alternative for your consideration.

It’s also worth noting that, as of today, PlayON have launched daily Fantasy games. In addition to the usual weekly game, you can now pick teams just from players featuring each day. There’s a £500 Guaranteed Pot for both Saturday and Sunday this weekend and a £1,000 Guaranteed Pot for the full Gameweek.

Goalkeeper – Brad Guzan
Aston Villa have racked up back-to-back clean sheets in their opening two matches and this defensive solidity looks poised to continue as Hull pay visit on Sunday. Guzan is a big reason for the shut outs so far and the kindly priced American (7.4m) could offer good value against a Tigers side that scored just 18 times on their travels last term. A slightly more expensive option is Wojciech Szczesny. Available for 8.0m, the Pole offers a cheap route into an obstinate Arsenal back line that travel to Leicester this weekend and, as demonstrated in the Champions League play-off win over Besiktas, his shot-stopping potential could be key as the Gunners seek their first league shut-out of the campaign.

Defender – Daryl Janmaat
The Newcastle full-back offers points potential at both ends of the pitch ahead of a home encounter with Crystal Palace. Janmaat looks a bargain at only 7.7m and, as evidenced by his five assists and two goals in 30 Eredivisie appearances for Feyenoord last season, offers plenty of attacking intent against an Eagles side still in a transitional period under new manager Neil Warnock. Manchester City’s home clash with Stoke at the Etihad is impossible to overlook and brings Aleksandar Kolarov into contention as our defensive punt. While City skipper Vincent Kompany is available for 9.3m, the left-back takes up just 8.0m of your budget – having been benched for Monday’s match with Liverpool, his attacking intent could well get the nod against the Potters, for those willing to roll the dice.

Midfielder – Nacer Chadli
It’s not often you can acquire a player who scored two goals in the previous round of fixtures for just 7.7m. Chadli looks to have been handed a new lease of life under Mauricio Pochettino and will fancy his chances of continuing that form against Liverpool’s shaky rearguard as Tottenham welcome the Merseysiders to White Hart Lane this Sunday. We turn to Manchester City again for the next midfield pick. While Yaya Toure hasn’t scored or assisted yet this season, the Ivorian has still been heavily involved in the champions’ build up play and could finally reap reward against the travel-sick Potters. With so much uncertainty surrounding the pitch time of City’s front men, Toure, at 10.0m, is a cheaper option that – injuries aside – will surely feature from start to finish against Mark Hughes’ side.

Forward – Wilfried Bony
Another Ivorian who is yet to net this season. In spite of his drought, Bony has still managed to deliver the points reasonably well so far in PlayON and, at a favourably priced 9.8m, could finally get his goal account up and running against West Brom at the Liberty. With Olivier Giroud facing a period on the sidelines, we turn to Alexis Sanchez for Arsenal’s trip to Leicester. The Chilean has started the last two matches up front for the Gunners and notched the midweek winner over Besiktas – at 10.5m in PlayON this week, he could be poised to plunder a Foxes defence that has afforded their opponents 21 shots inside the box in the opening two Gameweeks.

The New Arrivals
It’s also worth noting a trio of high-profile additions to the top-flight over the last few days. PlayON have handed Angel de Maria a 9.1m price tag for United’s trip to Burnley, while Mario Balotelli sets you back just 10.4m as Liverpool make their way to the Lane. Everton new boy Samuel Eto’o takes up just 9.8m of your budget as he welcomes former club Chelsea to Goodison Park and could be in line for an immediate start if Romelu Lukaku fails to recover from an ongoing toe problem.

    Costa to Steven Fletcher, thoughts?

Frees up funds for the Jovetic to Aguero move shortly when Jovetic inevitably loses his place.

Or simply Costa to Adebayor and make do with Jovetic?

Last week my gut feeling was to captain Ramsey away to Everton, but I didn't have the balls... and he ended up outscoring Costa by 3pts...

This week my feeling is to captain Eriksen, which once again goes against all logic cos he's blanked twice and is playing in a difficult game...

But feck it... I'm determined to stay true to my gut feelings this year...

    Eriksen (C)

Chambers to van Aanholt and/or Bruce to Dummett? Cheers

    Sanchez + Ramsey
    Hazard + Costa
    Aguero + Toure/Silva
    Sturridge + Sterling
    Rooney + Mata

Those are all the players I want right now. Two from each team, with the most expensive first.
I've heard a lot about "coverage" on these pages, so was wondering what others reckon is the best, (feasible) selection of these players (one from each team).

Considering the value of the players, I reckon Sanchez (will be playing up front), Costa (lone striker with a lot of decent support), Aguero, Sterling, Mata.

*This does not represent my current team selection, but what I will be aiming to achieve over several transfers.

Nice. If you can afford Rooney, Sturridge, Aguero and Sanchez it'd be like playing four strikers.
I personally reckon Fabregas will slow down with the points whilst Haz and Costa pick up the goal points. A bit like Ozil did after an explosive start of assists...

          • 15 Years
          11 years, 10 months ago

no chance to afford them all though. sturridge --> adebayor and its doable. i think fabregas is the one who will tick over. goals and assists. hazard is no longer the focal point like last season(s). costa will be good but maybe just good and therefore a bit too expensive

1] Ignore all prices and choose one from each pair

2] Choose 3 must have players regardless of price

3] Mix and Match the rest

      Example =

      1] Ramsey
      Costa
      Aguero
      Sterling
      Rooney

      2] Ramsey / Sterling / Costa

      3] Ramsey / Sterling / Costa / Rooney / Silva

    Baseline BAPS Spreadsheet

The spreadsheet for the baseline BAPS for defenders has been updated with information from GW2. It is updated weekly with the baseline BAPS from each game week added, and the average BAPS updated.

Essentially what this spreadsheet shows is the raw BAPS score a player relieves, after factors like CSs, goals and assists have been removed. This way we can see defenders who are most likely to receive clean sheets, even when there are no clean sheets or their team may lose the game.

The spreadsheet can be found here:

He's saying those stats don't mean much as the games they were recorded in were hard games. Stoke will likely double that tally this week.

Weird argument. Burnley let could easily concede more than lei. They played a Chelsea side that only wanted to attack for 4 mins and a Swansea side. Could easily have conceded more than 19 shots if you switch their fixtures with lei

Re: Tadic vs Naismith, I'd play Tadic on account of super-sub Eto and super-defense Chelsea.

Super defence Chelsea conceded to Burnley and Everton ahve scored 4 in 2 games with Naismith getting baps in both, Tadic only has an assist, I'd love to play Tadic but I can't stand seeing Naismith on the bench with points again 😛

How do West Ham look this weekend? Do we expect Southampton to cause them trouble?

That's not much to cling on to, having conceded one goal! Let's face it, Chelsea is the "defense to beat" this year. They are almost everybody's favorite for most CS and least goals conceded.

Not an West Ham expert, but they are trying to attack a bit more which in my book would leave them less solid. That new LB is great though.

How's the RB that will be up against Tadic? 😉 Is it God?

Tadic is 100% the better player, but he's playing in a much worse team away from home.. And he hasn't done much yet..

I'd prefer to play him though, would you expect him to return away to West Ham?

Everton has the much tougher fixture
