After weeks of negotiations, Norwich finally completed the signing of Hull’s Robbie Brady for an undisclosed fee, believed to be £7 million. The Republic of Ireland international penned a three-year deal with the Canaries and joins Graham Dorrans, Youssouf Mulumbu and Andre Wisdom in making the move to Carrow Road this summer.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Brady spoke of his happiness after dropping a division with the relegated Tigers:

“The feeling of being wanted is something I’m so grateful to the manager for, and to everyone who’s been behind it. It’s another opportunity to play at the highest level, which is where everyone wants to be. I’ll relish it, and will hopefully play as many games as possible. It’s a new chapter for me at Norwich now and I’m raring to go.”

THE HISTORY

Born in Dublin, Brady was spotted by Manchester United scouts playing for local side St. Kevin’s Boys. He joined the club’s academy shortly after his 16th birthday in January 2008, and made his debut for the reserves just months later. Brady played under-18 and reserve team football for the next few seasons, before graduating to the reserves on a permanent basis for the 2010/11 campaign.

The Irishman was sent out on loan to Hull City ahead of the 2011/12 season, and went on to make 39 appearances during the campaign, registering three goals and a couple of assists. Brady returned to Old Trafford the following year but he only managed one senior appearance for United, however, coming on as a late substitute in a cup win over Newcastle in September 2012. An initial loan return to Hull was made permanent in January 2013, with Brady’s four goals and 13 assists in 32 appearances guided the Tigers from the Championship back into the top-flight.

Brady went on to star for the Tigers on their return to the Premier League, scoring three goals and providing one assist in 16 appearances, before undergoing surgery to cure a hernia problem, missing out on the club’s run to the FA Cup final, where they lost 3-2 to Arsenal. Last season, Brady made 27 league appearances, registering two assists, but the Tigers two-year stay in the Premier League came to an end as they finished 18th.

Having represented the Republic of Ireland at under-17, under-19 and under-21 levels, Brady made his international debut in a 4-1 win against Oman in September 2012, scoring once and setting up two of the goals. Brady has since amassed 12 caps for his country, scoring three times.

THE PROSPECTS

Having featured in several different positions for both Hull and the Republic of Ireland, Brady should provide Norwich boss Alex Neil with plenty of flexibility. Speaking about his big summer signing, Neil revealed Brady would primarily feature down the left flank:

“I’m really pleased to sign Robbie. As everyone’s aware, we’ve been chasing him for quite a while, He’ll be an absolutely perfect fit for us. Hopefully he can go on and show everything that we think he’s capable of. He’s dynamic, he’s got good energy to get up and down the pitch, and he’s got a fantastic left foot which makes him a real danger at set-pieces. He’s got a lot of things in his locker. It gives us good competition down the left side.”

In terms of tactics, Neil tended to operate with a lone striker system after taking the helm last year, rolling out 4-4-1-1, 4-1-4-1 and 4-2-3-1 formations. Bradley Johnson shone on the left flank, racking up 15 goals, but with Martin Olsson likely to miss the start of the season after undergoing shoulder surgery in the summer, Johnson has been occasionally fielded at left-back in pre-season. Brady also has plenty of experience in the position, particularly at international level, and offers an alternative until Olsson is ready for action.

The Swede is expected back shortly, though, and his return may well see Brady oust Johnson down the left of midfield. Certainly, he possesses greater pace than Johnson and is more of a natural wide man, with his cultured left foot able to deliver great quality into the box. Alternatively, Neil could utilise him centrally in the role in “the hole” behind a lone striker.

Coming in at 5.5 in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, Brady sets you back the same as Johnson and Nathan Redmond, whose place looks secure on the right of midfield. Neil’s words suggest he’ll be handed a fair share of dead-ball duties, whilst Brady will be also hoping to climb up the spot-kick pecking order, having occasionally taken penalties for Hull.

The Canaries have been handed a kind start to their return to the top flight, with their first six home fixtures (CPL, STO, BOU, LEI, WBA, SWA) particularly friendly. Away trips to Sunderland and Newcastle in the opening nine Gameweeks are also reasonable match-ups, so Brady could provide Fantasy managers with a decent budget option. Given that he’s joined with just over a week until the season starts, he may need time to settle into his new surrounds before some consider taking the plunge.

No Southampton attacking coverage is survivable, right?

Absolutely yes. They struggled to score towards the latter part of the season aside from the Villa mauling.

Havent done a RMT yet, but think i've landed on something nice here.

    Schmeichel (Myhill)
    Koscielny, Azpil, Huth (Cedric, Targett)
    Henderson, Walcott, Hazard, Mane, Redmond
    Benteke, Kane (Sakho)

Plan is to rotate keepers, cedric and huth, redmond and sakho.

Could be a lot of benching headaches but i like the progress of the team.

    Thoughts?

U make a good point. Had Benteke before his switch to Liverpool, have since thought about swapping for Pelle or Giroud. Upgraded Mane to Ozil recently as i had 0.5ITB. Thanks for the input

Not a bad idea, Chadli did burn me towards the end of last season with his inconsistent minutes. But i do know this was due to personal circumstances. Still think Hendo will outscore him though

Id rather not start the season with Benteke. I love him to death but I need to see how he fits in with LIV first. Helps that 2 of first 3 are on the road to hold off but will admit if he looks the business week 1, will be hard to not have for week 2.

Id rather take a guy like Giroud if you can afford it or Pelle and keep the remainder in the bank, then consider that spot for Benteke when he is ready.

Out of curiousity, when presenting your team on here, how do you choose which name goes first in each position?

I've seen many set up their midfield like this: Walcott, Hazard, Ki, Mane

To me the only logical way of setting it up is in decreasing order price wise: Hazard, Walcott, Mane, Ki

It's disturbing to see teams with players all over the place with no apparent system, so I'm just wondering. Is it a system that I just don't see?

I understand, but how do you choose the order of the names when you write it down? Becuase that has to be chosen either way, so I'm just curious as to how Hazard ends up in the middle of Walcott and Ki.

    Schmeichel(SUN)
    Jagielka(WAT) - Targett(new)
    Hazard(SWA) - Fabreagas(SWA) - Walcott(WHU) - Cazorla(WHU) - Mane(new)
    Rooney(TOT) - Lukaku(WAT) - Wilson(AVL)

    4.0 - 4.0 - 4.0 - 4.0

What changes would you make to this team to maximize GW1 pts?

Not too much. I'm mainly doing this because I can see no other good time to use that chip. You'll want a 4.5 5th mid all season, no matter your team value. So it's either play it in GW1, or bring on a crappy 4.5m mid with the chip.

Perfect. There always seem to be a couple of penalties in GW1 and you've got four penalty takers in there.

Would go something similar, although if Costa is fit could go:

            Schmeichel (SUN)
Francis (AVL) - Targett (new) (Yeah, I know)
Hazard (SWA) - Walcott (WHU) - Mata (TOT) - Barkley (WAT) - Ritchie (AVL)

Maybe the hang-up is that he hasn't been assured of a starting place, who knows. He beat Myhill for the Wales job when he came back from injury, Myhill then promptly threw a hissy-fit and retired so there is politics at play.

Q1 : Would you rather have Kos and O'Shea or Mertesacker and PVA?

Q2: What do you think of the double rotation among these four DEFs to use with ARS def first 4-6 wks?

    WK1 Francis (AVL) Huth (SUN)
    WK2 Jenkinson (LEI) O'Shea (NOR)
    WK3 Jenkinson (BOU) O'Shea (SWA)
    WK4 Francis (LEI) Huth (bou)
    WK5 Huth (AVL) Jenkinson (NEW)
    WK6 Francis (SUN) O'Shea (bou)

All 4 Defs used three times. 10 of 12 games at home, other 2 at promoted side. Leicester arguably toughest opponent entire time.

Also may ditch O'Shea after week 3, Rate him lowest of the four and only needed again by week 6 for an away fixture. Plenty of time to replace with next best 4.5 option. OR, I go Mert over Kos and get PVA instead of O'Shea.

    Thoughts?

    Cheers

      FUZZY! Long time buddy.

      1. Kos + Oshea (but I'd rather Kaboul if nailed).
      2. I would probably rotate LEI and SUN.

Yeah, trying to look for answers myself.

I heard Coates was shite in the recent game, and Oshea isn't getting any younger (yet mind you, neither is Younes!)

its on the previous page, looking at playing WC after Week 4 so building a team with weeks 1-4 in mind, and a way to get in Aguero and Fabs by Week 4 if i want to.

            Stekelenburg, Hennessey

            Kos, Jenk, Huth, O'Shea, Francis

            Walcott, Cazorla, Mane, Payet, Moses

            Rooney, Kane, Pelle

I think I'd prefer Kos and O'shea for the odd occasion where mertesacker gives way to Gabriel. The rotations look fine - hardly the strongest forward lines in the league to come up against.

      1. I prefer the upside of van Aanholt over O'Shea to that of Koscielny to Mertesacker so Mertesacker and van Aanholt for me.

      2. Nice rotation but it goes completely pear shaped after GW6...and I wouldn't want to spend many(if any) transfers on my backline.

      1. @FuzzyWarbles
        • 15 Years

Agreed Parm but the chances of me wanting to WC by then, no matter what team I assemble for WK1 are very high if I am to be honest with myself, especially after WK4.

Plus I am hoping among those budget DEFs, 1 or 2 look like they may be worth keeping long term, namely Francis and Huth.

4% more own Kos to Mert. Shouldnt be too detrimental if i go Mert....might do.

If you've got the balls(and cash) for it i'd double up on a WHU/BOU rotation if you're only looking at GW1-6.

dont think ive got those balls. i double down in def for the top defensive sides from time to time, but Id rathe spread the risk/reward out with budget players. Plus, I kinda rate Huth to be a potential long term investment. Maybe I'm nuts but I think he's easily the best 4.5 option if looking at the whole season.

Hey guys, new to posting on the site, any chance of a RMT please?

    Butland Ruddy

Azpi. Cedric. O'shea. J ward. Mings

    Hazard. Sterling. Walcott. Ozil. Bentaleb.

    Rooney. Pelle. Defoe.

Main concern is Defoe - if Sunderland can get the ball into him I don't doubt his ability to finish, but I'm unsure as to whether he will get the service. I'd love sakho but can't afford the extra mill. Also is mines nailed on to start? I'd assume he would be given he cost 8mill.

    Any advice much appreciated.

You get what you pay for at Defoe's price.

That being said, I'd rather have Deeney or Wilson for that price. I would lean Deeney as a slightly better option assuming you have no intent starting Bentaleb and will start that budget F every week.

Defoe, deeney and Wilson are the three strikers I've been considering but keep being drawn to Defoe due to his premier league experience and favourable fixtures. I like Deeney but I'm completely unconvinced by Watford

tipping point for Deeney though is he is team captain, 90 minute shifts every week are all but assured, on pens. Im not high on Watford either but every club usually has one fantasy relevant player no matter how bad they may be, and for the Hornets, Deeney looks safest to be that one.

I like the idea of a Liverpool defender looking at their home fixtures, every single one until GW19 has CS potential:

BOU, WHM, NOR, AVL, SOT, CRY, SWA, WBA, LEI.

Issue is covering for their away fixtures(especially that opening chunk of 7):

[sto, ars, mun, eve, tot, che, mci,] new, wat, sun
