Our members articles analysing last season are completed today with a review of West Ham’s performances. The Hammers entered 2014/15 in reasonable health, having finished 13th in the Premier League in the previous campaign, although they only gained 40 points and did flirt with the relegation zone before finally confirming their top-flight status.

Plenty of changes were made in both playing and coaching personnel at Upton Park last summer, with forwards Enner Valencia and Diafra Sakho brought in, while Teddy Sheringham joined up as an attacking coach. Cheikhou Kouyate and Aaron Cresswell were also signed, while Carl Jenkinson and Alex Song moved to the Hammers on season-long loans.

In this members article, we asses the main goal threats and creators in Sam Allardyce’s final year at the helm and also compare the team’s attacking numbers to the previous year.

    Arsenal...

    Goal-getters:
    Walcott
    Ramsey
    Giroud
    Welbeck
    Oxlade-Chamberlain

    Nailed on:
    Cazorla
    Ozil
    Coquelin

    Neither:
    Wilshere

    Both:
    Sanchez

    Both, and available GW1:
    None 🙁

Pretty much. When you put it like that though Ramsey is the one you could move to the Both column.

Not sure Chamberlain belongs in the goal-getter category despite today's strike IMO

He's got potential to do a Ramsey 13/14. I'll wait for that to materialise first though!

Who should be my premium defender? Azpilicueta or Koscielny

    Also Walcott or Cazorla?

    1. thedarkhorse
      11 years, 2 months ago

      I'd prefer Kosc over Azpi.

Depends on what approach you like to take, Walcott for high risk / reward, Cazarla for more of a safe bet but but with less potential.

I'm going Walcott, thinking that if he doesn't fire early on / his minutes prove limited I can easily transfer him for another decent option.

    Evening all!

First post of the new season - any recommendations as to anything that needs to change in my team?

    Butland Ruddy
    Shaw Cedric Prodl Mings 4.0
    Hazard Walcott Sterling Mane 4.5
    Rooney Benteke Sakho

Obv planning to play a 3-5-2, rotating Prodl and Mings.

    Cheers!

    1. Davido989
      11 years, 2 months ago

      - Having a non playing 4m defender is asking for trouble IMO
      - Huth? I'd trust the Leicester defence more than the Watford&Bournemouth defences.
      - And you mean 3-4-3, not 3-5-2.

      8/10

      1. thedarkhorse

Thanks, will definitely consider Huth, potential goal threat too I guess.

        Yep, meant 3-4-3!

    1. Davido989
      11 years, 2 months ago

Im not sure. I think Azpi is a better long term pick than Kos. Not particularly keen on the RB situation and Mertesacker either. Though Monreal could be a good pick, would expect rotation at some stage though.

      1. Your Mum's Athletic
        11 years, 2 months ago

Having Azpi & Kos and a rotation with a 4.0 at the end looks real good, I don't know how long I can keep hold of Ivan.

I think you are on to something. Arsenal, with Cech, and their well rounded team, would seem difficult to score on. The downside is that aside from Kos, and maybe to some lesser degree Mert, the fullbacks seem at risk to rotation. I'd like to havenBellerin as he seems like a growing threat offensively.

    1. Rooney-Eriksen
    2. Kane-Depay
    Whats your thoughts?
Rooney vs Kane both penalty takers and guranteed goalscorers
Depay vs Eriksen both extremly good free kick takers and can both assist and score, at the same price(8.5) please motivate your thoughts.. cant choose, CHEERS:D

Arsenal mid surely the prime candidates. If you already have 1, you can double up or double up on Utd with Depay.

I'd pick both Utd players, but it's a tough choice

      I'm deliberating between
Sterling and Rooney and 2 mil
      Or
      Depay and Aguero

Is it just me or does there seem to be too many options in the same team this season?

    Arsenal mids
    Fabregas and Hazard
    Sakho or Payet
    Rooney or Depay/Mata
    Benteke or Milnerson
    Aguero or Sterling

I just know I'm going to pick all the wrong options!

        This.

At this point it's really hard to pick right players, we'll probably should choose at least half casual players and no more than half of those punts. I'll probably follow this route:

Cazorla (dull, but nailed and on pens)
        Haz (dull, but haz pens)
        Sakho (price)
Rooney (because lack of nailed on fwds)
Reds - lottery at this point
        Sterling - get Aguero GW4
Mane (and maybe even double with Pelle if Benteke is not GW1 fit)

Bloody impossible mate. My team is so up on the air atm. So different to how it was last year, I'm worried.

Does today's game make you less certain about Chelsea attacking players? Plenty with Hazard/Cesc + Costa. Are you also less sure about captaining a Chelsea player in GW 1? Strangely, Chelsea didn't play the ball to Hazard enough and he wasn't positioned in his usual position on the left enough. He was more central which made it easier to shut him down.

He did play some good through balls. Hazard should have scored from a Fabregas pass. Arsenal did well defensively to be fair.

Another potential part of the Arsenal midfielder debate is whether or not you are starting with Aguero. For those who are starting with Aguero, if he does not play and you also opt for Walcott there is another risk there and potentially 22m of your budget is on the bench in gw 1. I currently have both Aguero and Walcott but having serious doubts.
