This was meant to be the day that would see talent from the north London clubs cause tremors in the Fantasy Premier League ranks and market place. Instead, both Spurs and Arsenal fell flat – to varying degrees of disaster.

Harry Kane had the opportunity to transform the Fantasy Football landscape. Not only could he have buried the August goal hoodoo, but he could also have delivered points for the 16.1% who captained him to capitalise on the failings of others – including Romelu Lukaku’s zero point score.

Once again he blanked. Once again the numbers he produced defied belief.

Kane had ten attempts on goal, seven from inside the box. For the second match running, he has surpassed his personal record for the number of shots in a single Premier League match without scoring.

This season Kane has fired just 25% of his efforts on target with a zero conversion rate. His rates for both in 2016/17 were 52% and 26% respectively.

According to certain statistical models, he should have 2.5 goals by now. But he hasn’t. He’s got nothing, and he’s being ushered out of FPL squads at a pace.

To compound matters, both Chelsea’s Alvaro Morata and Roberto Firmino of Liverpool provided goal and assist returns with maximum bonus to overtake Lukaku in the forward standings.

They provide an obvious exit route for those left feeling decidedly uneasy about Kane’s extraordinary three-match drought.

Dismissing talk of the August “curse”, there is perhaps another reason behind this sorry spell: maybe Spurs really are destined to struggle at Wembley.

We have just two “home” matches to go on – the first against the champions Chelsea, while it should also be noted that Spurs only edged out Burnley 2-1 at White Hart Lane last season.

However, there is building momentum behind the theory that Mauricio Pochettino’s men could lack intensity and that sides will raise their game on visiting Wembley.

With Swansea City and Bournemouth the next two opponents due to arrive, we will surely have more evidence soon. Falter against that pair, and our confidence in Kane and Spurs’ other key assets – Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli – will plummet.

While it’s a testing trip to Everton to come next, those forthcoming home fixtures, coupled with the unfeasible and record-breaking numbers – may convince many Kane owners to sit on their hands, even when faced with cheaper and more profitable temptations.

Spurs toiled, but their suffering pales in significance next to the cataclysmic display delivered by Arsenal at Anfield.

Like Kane, Alexis Sanchez had the opportunity to put Fantasy managers in a spin. Instead, he played a 60-minute role in a farcical Gunners performance which may actually transpire to be his last for the club.

It remains to be seen if Sanchez stays in the Premier League to be a factor in our season. For now, he played his part in making Liverpool’s attacking assets seem irresistible, as the aforementioned Firmino pulled the strings for both Sadio Mane and Mo Salah to step up with further hauls.

It appears that there is still one thing we can all rely on as Fantasy managers: Liverpool will present us with the dilemma of putting many attacking eggs in a single basket.

With Kane – our most bankable scorer currently defying all odds to misfire – perhaps we should just embrace that “problem”.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    GW rank 21,057.

And that's with -8 hit which didn't pay off. 1,6m places up, now ranked 1.5m. Still needs a lot of work to make up for the bad start and all these hits I took.

At least I have 2FT to sort out some short term concerns. Which 2 transfers do you recommend?

I think there are better options now, getting Mkhi now seems like point chasing, he hasn't played especially well and with CL coming up, he's likely to be rotated.

No Liverpool coverage and I think Firminho is the one I'm going for.

I don't like the way Salah and Mane will always struggle for bonus, Salah got none today with a goal and assist. I think with the added penalties Firminho seems the one to get, didn't think it because of his re classification but 8.5 for him is a steal.

How good a start have you guys got off too ?

I've made a mediocre start in FPL (702k with 168 point including 58 this GW), but I am doing much better in the Fox Sports game (272nd) and my draft leagues where I am leading 3 of the 5, including a 15 team league where I beat TorresMagic 64-31, but i'd be surprised if he doesn't get me back in the long run.

    De Gea, Elliot,
    Davies, Dawson, Rosenior, Stephens, Dann
    Salah, Mane, Loftus, Carroll, Mkhitaryan
    Lukaku, Kane and Mounie

I'm not sure whether to wildcard. If I did, I'd change De Gea, Stephens, Dann, perhaps Dawson, Salah (to enable Firmino), Mkhit (To Pogba), and lose Kane and Mounie as well (For Firm and Morata)

    What do you reckon?

Bertrand vs WAT, Mee vs CPA and Kolasinac vs BOU

I really think Kolasinac plays against Bournemouth. I still think it's really dumb benching him against Pool but I can somewhat understand Wengers thought process in that (new to the league etc). He surely has to play against Bournemouth and if you sell him now, you'll want him back when (if??) he ever gets to play LWB.

Not justifying the price tag so far but thats mostly down to Wenger.

          1. stat
            8 years, 10 months ago

Yeah good points. If he's finally deployed as a LWB then I have no doubt that he will be raking in a lot of points. I'm in a tough situation because I've had a bad start to the season, but most of my players don't look that bad so I don't want to rush into an early wildcard.

Shocking two weeks for me after a good opening week. Not planning to WC just yet because I still don't see a decent, consistent squad of players emerging, but there are a few cornerstones. What would you do with this bunch?

    Foster Elliott
    Ake Suttner Stephens Jones Mee
    KDB Willian Ramsey Pogba Carroll
    Lukaku Kane Mounie

    1.0m ITB.

KDB out looks the obvious move, probably for Alli or Salah.

Anything else? Happy to spend a hit or two to sort it out.

I have a really similar team and I went KDB out for Eriksen.

Thinking of playing the WC because of Willian, Ramsey, Stephens etc

Just realised Kane doubled his total points this gw.
Owners & cappers must be ecstatic.

I got no attacking returns from any of my front seven this week, so Kane was a good as any really.

      The Wembley thing is real.
I avoided these first 3 weeks because of it and thankfully it's worked out.

I think what happened was that he was slightly unlucky in first two matches by hitting post couple of times, playing really well and getting those chances to score. Today looked like not scoring in those first two matches got to him a bit and he was looking not so relaxed and even trying too hard. Overall I think Spurs will come good in Wembley and Kane also, needs just a bit of form. Couple of goals during int break could up his confidence a bit.

Would you protect team value by selling Fraser?

Jesus to Firmino...should i do it?
Would make my front line like this:

    Salah/Mkhi/Willian
    Kane/Lukaku/Firmino

Stick. Salah / Firmino / Mane will share points. Make sure you have one (you do). Mkhi is good for Utd. Would probably look at Willian if anything. Jesus will score goals (he already has). Aguero is not Pep's man.

    Foster (Elliot)
    Kolasinac, Stephens, Lowe (Suttner, Long)
    KDB, Mane, Mikhitaryan, Carroll (RLC)
    Kane, Lukaku, Chicarito

    A - KDB > Eriksen/Alli?
    B - KDB & Chicarito > Silva & Firmino -4
    C - KDB & Long > Silva & Bavies/Trippier? -4
    D - Save FT.

    Thanks.

Thoughts on keeping Abraham? I will start him if I keep him since Newcastle at home is a good fixture. Finally got his first PL goal after missing a great opportunity in each of his first two games, so that's good for his confidence.

Unfortunately, Llorente should be back after the break, unless he goes to Chelsea, and Swansea are rumored to be buying back Bony from City. Not sure how the presence of these players will affect Abraham's starting place, since Ayew could also potentially be dropped
