Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata maintains his impressive form with a goal for Spain as he continues to promote his Fantasy CV.

Here are the notes from Saturday’s international fixtures.

Morata the merrier

Alvaro Morata needed just 18 minutes to confirm his continued fine early-season form as Spain completed a convincing 3-0 win over fellow European football royalty Italy.

The Chelsea striker had to make do with a place on the bench as coach Julen Lopetegui opted to play with no recognised forwards at all, preferring instead to use Man City midfielder David Silva as a ‘false nine’.

But when Morata finally made it onto the pitch, he made an immediate impact, scoring Spain’s third goal a mere five minutes after replacing Andres Iniesta.

The strike means that he now has three goals and two assists from four matches this season, explaining why only Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino is ahead of him in the Fantasy Premier League forwards standings.

It was widely anticipated that Morata would take time to adjust to his new surrounds at Chelsea; a theory that clearly played a part in deciding a modest 12.5% ownership.

Chelsea’s tough opening schedule also dampened early enthusiasm – the Blues have already played Spurs and Everton and still have to face Arsenal and Man City, albeit both at home, before Gameweek 7 is done.

But after their shock opening day defeat to Burnley, Antonio Conte’s side are starting to look every inch the defending champions, and Morata has clearly settled into his new role as their spearhead.

His goal and assist returns in both home matches to this point have sparked massive interest. More than 196,000 FPL managers have drafted in the Spaniard and, with 40,000+ making the direct trade, Morata has proved the most popular Harry Kane replacement ahead of Gameweek 4.

Of the strikers with two or more goals this season, only Romelu Lukaku can better his attempts (9), his minutes per chance average (20.9) and penalty box touches (15), while he and Firmino are the only strikers with two assists.

With Eden Hazard closing in on full fitness, Chelsea’s attacking threat – and supply line for Morata – is surely only going to improve, even if the Belgian is likely to regain penalty duties.

And based on current form, the forthcoming visit from Arsenal is not the test of old, which makes the Blues’ short-term schedule more palatable – (lei ARS sto MCI cry WAT bou), Man City notwithstanding.

Should he be given the chance to make hay in Spain’s Tuesday night trip to Liechtenstein, Morata will return to domestic duty for Gameweek 4 with form on his side, Hazard potentially supplying chances and with the fixtures more favourable than anticipated.

Elsewhere…

On a quiet night for Premier League players, Liverpool youngster Ben Woodburn’s superb winner for Wales against Austria demonstrated the wealth of attacking options available to Jurgen Klopp.

Elsewhere in that encounter, Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsey shook off doubts surrounding his fitness to play 90 minutes.

Returning to Liverpool, Sadio Mane played the full 90 minutes as Senegal were held to a goalless home draw with Burkina Faso. They will now play the reverse fixture – a vital clash for the Senegalese – on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Man United centre-half Eric Bailly supplied an assist in Ivory Coast’s 3-0 win in Gabon. Spurs’ Serge Aurier completed 90 minutes for the visitors.

Brighton defender Shane Duffy gave the Republic of Ireland the lead in Georgia, only for Martin O’Neill’s men to have to settle for a 1-1 draw.

Newcastle United’s suspended striker Aleksandar Mitrovic scored for the third match running in all competitions as Serbia beat Moldova 3-0, with Man United’s Nemanja Matic playing 77 minutes for the hosts.

Finally, Everton’s Gylfi Sigurdsson managed a second consecutive full 90 minutes of the season, but couldn’t stop Iceland slumping to a 1-0 defeat in Finland.

I think maybe give him the next three games and see how he's used. Fixtures look primed for a Citeh Goal fest in a couple of them. Wish I had now.

Don't like Chelsks' next 3 anyway.

Yep but not seeing much talk of rotation/minutes risk so fwiw: September - Internationals then play on the 9th then:
      TOT: 13th CL - 16th PL - 19th EFL - 23rd PL - 26th CL - 30th PL

Not just potential Kane issue though:

      ARS: 14th Europa - 17th PL - 20th EFL - 25th PL - 28th Europa - 1st Oct PL
      CHE: 12th CL - 17th PL - 20th EFL - 23rd PL - 27th CL - 30th PL
      LIV: 13th CL - 16th PL - 19th EFL - 23rd PL - 26th CL - 1st Oct PL
      MCI: 13th CL - 16th PL - 20th EFL - 23rd PL - 26th CL - 30th PL

Afternoon gents, on WC which team looks best going forward?

Team A - (means playing 433 most weeks):
    Foster, Elliot
    Alonso, Cedric, Naughton, Suttner, Mbemba
    Alli, Salah, Miki, Cork, Carrol
    Kane, Morata, Firmino

    Team B:
    Foster, Elliot
    Alonso, Cedric, Naughton, MAGUIRE, Mbemba
    ERIKSEN, Salah, POGBA, Miki, Carrol
    Kane, Firmino, TAMMY

B will give me more flexibility, but really like the look of A's front 3.

    the snazzy team:

(already did Wijnaldum to Ritchie as one FT on Tuesday)

    Foster / Myhill
Valencia Stephens Suttner / Daniels Hunemeier
KDB Willian Ramsey Ritchie / Carroll
    Kane Lukaku Gabbiadini
    1FT, 1.1 ITB

I am getting closer to an idea of who to get in and who to get out this week.

Thinking getting KDB and Willian out for a hit this week, and transfer in Mane and Pogba.

    Thoughts?

The annoying thing about my team is that I have quite a few problems in it, but there are just not enough problems to make something like a wildcard a sensible decision...

Hunemeier is alright as for now, for Ramsey it really depends how he does against Bournemouth to persuade me to keep him, and a similar story for Gabbiadini though I might give him time until the United match.

        Cheers!

you are right no WC indeed what i would try is have a playing bench just in case and you want in form players for your attacking part i know there is the love and trust of a heavy top line but you soon have to decide how long your faith in that, otherwise you gonna have a hard time getting back in shape.I am not letting you to sell kane or Lukaku only that there are a lot of ways leading to Rome 🙂

    PVA replacement? Got £5.9.

I have no WBA or ManU defense/GK.

Jones / Blind - who will get more minutes?
Trippier / Davies - Spurs have easiest next 5 fixtures but is Trip a doubt with Aurier?
Hagazi / Nyom - Pretty decent fixtures also, which one of these is best?
Lowe / Zanka - can Hudd defense continue performing

Suttner and Ake the most likely to drop. I have Wijnaldum who's close to a fall and I'm not really bothered by it. You shouldn't be either but out of the moves you suggested I would prefer the JWP one as he seems unlikely to get the full 90.

This is my current WC team at the moment, any thoughts on how I can improve it? Currently, have 1.6 ITB

    Fabianski (Elliot)

Alonso - Davies - Cedric - Naughton (Mee)

Alli - Salah - Pogba - Brady (Carroll)

    Kane - Firmino (Abraham)

could possibly upgrade Tammy to Chicharito but not sure

I'd go with Foster over Fabianski for starters. Double Swans defence doesn't appeal to me, but others might suggest Swansea are going to keep CS's every week now. I prefer Mkhi over Pogba too. Otherwise it's fairly decent.

    Defence: Stephens, Dawson, Davies
    Midfield: KDB, Willian, Atsu, Salah
    Forwards: Gabb, Kaku, Kane

    Bench: Elliot, Carroll, Mee, Long

    2 FTs

    A) Gabb and Willian out for Pogba and Abraham

I got one recently because my Iphone5s was giving me trouble and i was not willing to invest money repairing it and getting the new Iphone in a few months time.

After a week of owning the S8 i regretted my decision i found it hard to switch from Apple to Android and the S8 felt like cheap toy comparing to the Iphone but after a month of owning i am starting to get to grips with it and i think it is now starting to grow on me.

The real sticking point for me is that Iphone done away with the jack i did not like this.

I really like that i can put in a micro sd card with all my music and that.

The borderless screen is not that impressive tbh and when i use the phone as a fpv when flying my Mavic Pro drone i think i get a lot more glare of the screen than the Iphone which is a pain in the ass.

Played wildcard at end of week 1. Worked out well so far ditching a poor team including Kane and catching 8m pogs, 8m Mhiki, Erik, Firm, Lukaku before rise etc etc

1 free transfer in the bank and waiting for Spurs v Swansea and 2 FT to go:

    Lukaku + Davies ----> Kane + best 4.5

    Heato, Elliot
    Alonso, Davies, Hegazi, Ward, Smith
    Poggles, Mhiki, Alli, Eriksen, RLC
    Firmino, Lukaku, Vokes

Anyone think trying to crowbar Kane in on top of Lukaku is a good idea? Can anyone justify losing Alonso and Firmino to do that?

    1. Gríma Wormtongue
      • 11 Years

well the order of priority is not important, but Alonso and the midfielders are the only way to free up money if Lukaku AND Kane are to play alongside each other. Is that justifiable once Kane begins to put away the chances?

  23. Saint & Reevesy
    • 13 Years
    8 years, 10 months ago

Now then, am I right in thinking at almost 60% ownership going with a WC team that has a stacked midfield but no lukaku is too risky?

A Morata/firmino front line allows you have a beastly 5 man midfield.

Anybody got a view on this?

    1. Netley Lucas
      • 10 Years
      8 years, 10 months ago

If you think it's too risky, don't. If you consider it a calculated risk and you think you have decent cap options plus the better midfield then it is worth some thought.

      1. Saint & Reevesy
        • 13 Years
        8 years, 10 months ago

It's the cap option that's killing me. My thinking is that the 60% that have lukaku will often captain him which doubles the risk.

        Mkhitaryan/mane/Silva/Erickson/Atsu
        Lukaku/Morata

        V

        Silva/Mane/Pogba/Mkhitaryan/Erickson
        Firmino/Morata

    2. Pacer.
      • 11 Years
      8 years, 10 months ago

I think you really need a decent captaincy choice and atm imo it is too early to say that Morata or Firmino offer that. However, I do totally agree that once you have someone you are happy to captain almost all weeks, there is good value and reliability for approx £10m and below in midfield. Eriksen, Alli, Mane, Salah, Hazard and Pogba/Mhiki all make for a good case.

I will be switching out Lukaku in GW5 and going with Kane/Firmino up front at which point I will consider switching to 3-5-2
