Cristiano Ronaldo (£12.0m) is the World Cup Fantasy focus as Group B reaches its climax tonight.

The Portugal forward, with four goals in two matches, is owned by 33.3 percent to managers as his side prepare to face Iran.

Meanwhile, 20.7 percent are invested in Spain striker Diego Costa (£9.0m), who has three World Cup goals so far.

There is considerably more interest in Spain than there is Portugal. The next-most backed attacker in Ronaldo’s squad is Bernardo Silva (£8.0m) with 3.2 percent ownership.

However, there are players with double-figure ownership right through Fernando Hierro’s ranks.

21.7 percent of managers have backed Sergio Ramos (£6.5m) to record another clean sheet and possibly convert a penalty given that VAR has helped more of those be awarded than usual. 7.4 percent opted to save money by going with Gerard Pique (£6.0m).

David De Gea (£6.5m) still has the backing of 15.4 percent of managers despite his error in Gameround 1.

Further outfield, 22.1 percent of managers still own Isco (£8.5m) who is waiting for his first return of the tournament.

Iran deservedly out. Portugal robbed of top place in the group but in a way lucky considering the chance Iran had after the goal.

How did cedric get - 1 for conceding a penalty when the rules clearly say it does not count if it is a hand ball?

Shearer thinks you have to purposefully touch the ball with your hand for it to be a foul.

It shouldn't have been a pen today, but he always sensationalises it by appealing to the word 'deliberate', which we all know is the most bs word in the rulebook.

Slavan Bilic is the first pundit I've heard who's actually noticed and mentioned that handballs don't have to be actually deliberate.

    1. F4L
      • 11 Years
      7 years, 9 months ago

don't have to be deliberate, just as long as your hands are in a natural position. Cedric obviously were, so no pen

      1. Deulofail
        • 10 Years
        7 years, 9 months ago

If it struck him directly on the arm, it would have been a foul because he had time to avoid it, regardless of whether his arm was in a natural position or not. So your simple definition isn't satisfactory either 😆

          • 11 Years

😀 the main problem with the hand ball rule is its too complicated !

      • 9 Years

Disagree. Per Law 12 of the Laws Of The Game:

      Handling the ball
Handling the ball involves a deliberate act of a player making contact with the ball with the hand or arm. The following must be considered:
      - the movement of the hand towards the ball (not the ball towards the hand)
      - the distance between the opponent and the ball (unexpected ball)
      - the position of the hand does not necessarily mean that there is an offence

      1. OldBenKenobi

        Clear to me

      2. Deulofail
        • 10 Years
        7 years, 9 months ago

That's not the definition of deliberate. You can accidentally handball it within those considerations, eg.accidentally moving your hand towards the ball.

Very few players ever intentionally touch the ball with their hands.

The VAR team choose the replay that the ref sees at the pitch side right? I don't think we can blame the ref for that decision given that it was based on a 'clear and obvious' damning angle played in ultra slo mo, frame by frame, in which it looked like it directly struck his arm. Despicable VAR team breakdown rather than despicable ref imo.

    1. Louis_Sans_Balls
      • 7 Years
      7 years, 9 months ago

They really need to sort this VAR thing out. It can't be the same ref making the same call, there has to be another way, they have to do more to help

      1. Deulofail
        • 10 Years
        7 years, 9 months ago

Let the VARs make the actual decision. Or show the ref more footage and slow the game down more.

I don't understand why the refs run 85% of the way, and walk the final 15 metres. 😆

This. Need referees that understand the rulebook inside and out and be 100% transparent. If it’s a foul, call a foul. If it’s not a foul, simply don’t call the foul. Regardless of the on field decision.
