Just eight matches remain of this year’s World Cup, the first of which gets underway at 3pm in Nizhny Novgorod as Uruguay take on France in the opening quarter-final.

Kylian Mbappe‘s (£9.0m) two-goal performance in Les Bleus’ 4-3 win over Argentina has attracted over 430,000 new Fantasy managers (the highest number of the round) and the 19-year-old forward is now the most-owned French asset, having been selected by 30.8% of those who are playing McDonald’s FIFA.

Antoine Griezmann (£10.0m) has yet to score from open play at this year’s tournament but simply being on spot-kick duties for his country in this World Cup of penalties means he warrants consideration. The Atletico Madrid forward, who has already scored twice from 12 yards, is owned by 17.4% of Fantasy managers.

The curious case of N’Golo Kante (£6.0m) drags on. While the Chelsea star admittedly remains the cheapest route into the French midfield, his lack of goal involvement (no goals, assists, shots or big chances created) has not deterred over a fifth of McDonald’s FIFA bosses from drafting the defensive midfielder into their squads.

Benjamin Pavard‘s (£4.5m) wonder strike in the win over Argentina, coupled with his budget price tag, has attracted the interest of over 150,000 new managers: the full-back now has a double-digit ownership, along with Raphael Varane (£6.0m) and Hugo Lloris (£6.0m).

Edinson Cavani (£9.5m) produced an excellent display in the 2-1 win over Portugal, scoring twice, but the Uruguayan striker misses out this afternoon with a calf injury.

Cavani’s strike partner Luis Suarez (£10.0m), who has two goals and an assist to his name at this summer’s World Cup, is owned by just 8% of McDonald’s FIFA managers. Suarez and Cavani have had more big chances than all of France’s squad combined this summer.

Diego Godin, Jose Gimenez and goalkeeper Fernando Muslera (all £5.7m) have been backed by 30.6%, 14.5% and 14.4% of McDonald’s FIFA managers respectively. Uruguay have yet to concede a goal from open play in 2018, with Pepe’s header from a corner-kick in the last-16 tie with Portugal the first goal Uruguay have conceded at this World Cup.

Uruguay XI (4-3-1-2): Muslera; Caceres, Gimenez, Godin, Laxalt; Nandez, Torreira, Vecino; Bentancur; Suarez, Stuani

France XI (4-2-3-1): Lloris; Pavard, Varane, Umtiti, Hernandez; Pogba, Kante; Tolisso, Mbappe, Griezmann; Giroud

World Cup Data

We’re delighted to offer World Cup data as an early addition to our regular season offering to help those playing Fantasy games over the summer.

We’ve secured Opta data, not only for the tournament itself, but also from the Qualifying Rounds for Europe and South America and for international friendlies involving the participating nations. This includes all the matches played right up to the tournament kick-off.

Just to stress, this World Cup offering comes packaged with the regular Fantasy Football Scout membership.

The VAR is a ligitimate official. Why can't we let them advise the referee live like the other officials on the pitch? Why must the referee have to look at a screen to review every decision?

The video replays have already been seen by the VAR. Let them make decisions based on superior evidence, and speed up the game. Let them advise the referee to give YCs to discipline players as and when they step out of line (since they can't review it if it's not possibly a RC).

And while I'm on the subject, punish every foul, regardless of whether the players create a sensationalised reaction. These are methods to stamp out this ridiculous petulance towards referees.

He can't look at the footage to review YCs; it's not what VAR is for 🙂

Also we need more streakers. When's the last time we saw a good decent streaker? It's becoming a rarity.

The broadcaster never shows them now sadly, as they don't want to encourage them. There's still one to two per match though.

    How’s this draft looking?

    DDG
    VVD, PVA, Coleman
    KDB, Salah, Mili, Theo
    Firmino, Arnie, King
(Hammer, Daniels, Cedric, Chalobah) +0.5 ITB

Extra ITB allows couple of potential moves depending on how GW1 goes:

    King> Zaha
    Theo/Mili > Mikhi or Groß
    PVA> Mendy etc

        • 16 Years
        8 years, 22 days ago

Mili is my tip for the big time this year. With Zaha being fouled he’s a good bet to get ridiculous amounts of penalties & DFK’s. He also bloody loves scoring headers from corners. First name on my team sheet.

Actually reckon he could easily be an 8.0 or 8.5 next year

If they qualify for the Europa League with the thin squad that they have, playing two games a week, they may start to leak.

        fair point.
They play aberdeen in the 2nd round qualifying 25th July.
Could give them an edge on fitness early in the season since they are playing competitive games?

Yeah it could. But other teams have been in the same position with Europa qualifying and the fitness edge in past seasons and have been gash. 🙂

Too many defenders I want this year - Coleman, Baines, PVA, VVD all have fixtures & attacking abilities. Usual suspects like Alonso Azpi guarantee points for a bit more €... Mendy could be a superstar this year also. I do want a Burnley defender though along with Palace & Newcastle their teams are designed to keep cleansheets.

Avoiding Burnley this year. I think they peaked last season, it would be practically impossible to finish anywhere higher on their budget and it will be hard to be that motivated again. Couple that with balancing the Europa League with a thin squad and I fancy a bottom half finish for them, potentially a relegation scrap.

Aye, that´s my point. Every year newcomers turn up with money leauges...
This bloke could be ok of course but I´d stick with the known entities.

Nobody ever invites me to money leagues here and even in my home town people running money leagues cross the street when they see me coming around this time of year. 🙁

Epic Fail has been running a high rollers league last 2 season, seek him out. 100 pounds entry I think.

I will ask him but am fully expecting the door to be slammed in my face with a sarcastic remark to boot.

Yeah it was full of local players, half the money went to our pool association and half out in prizes

Yeah, or Carrasco as an enabler.

        Just so few midfield options.

        Maybe load up on Croats?
