Introduction to the Article Type

With so many RMTs on site, we’re going to start collecting them in these RMT Community Articles.

In our fourth article of the series, Niemi has given us his team, and some explanations of his choices. Feel free to comment on his team.

This is also a place for you to post your team; please respond to a few others while you’re at it!

Mods have been alerted and will spend some time on these pages responding.

Let’s try to keep the main article pages free from RMTs!

Niemi’s RMT

Patricio – Hamer
Mendy – Robertson – Shaw – Wan-Bissaka – Bednarek
Salah – Mane – Mahrez – Richarlison – Jota
Aguero – Mitrovic – Kamara

Goalkeepers

Patricio – 4.5 – I really like Patricio as a GK, I think he’s genuine quality. At 4.5 in a team that have strengthened a lot during the summer I think he could be one of the great bargains this season. It’s a slight risk going with a GK who’s new to the league in a promoted team, but it’s a risk that could easily pay off. I’m going to play him every week.

Hamer – 4.0 – It seems like Hamer have a shot of starting some games for Huddersfield, so he’s my pick of the 4.0s

Defenders

Robertson – 6.0 – Impressive end to last season, very attacking, decent opening fixtures and no World Cup. An easy and sensible pick in my eyes.

Mendy – 6.0 – I was initially lukewarm to Mendy as a pick, but he looks likely to start the first few games and Pep seems confident he’ll become a key player in the Manchester City side this season. With the amazing run of fixtures between gameweek 2 and 7 I’m taking the risk.

Shaw – 5.0 – Another defender I wasn’t convinced about earlier in the preseason. Although he’s now found his way into my team, I’m not totally convinced on how long he’ll remind a starter. Probably the player in my team I’m least convinced about.

Wan-Bissaka – 4.0 – Has made the right back spot his own during preseason, and is an obvious pick with Palace’s nice opening fixtures. I’ve seen Crystal Palace linked to a few right backs though, so I’m monitoring their movements on the transfer market the final days.

Bednarek – 4.0 – Emerged late last season as a budget defender and kept his price for this season. Seems to be prefered alongside Vestergaard and de Hoedt in the back three, but is facing competition from Stephens. A more nailed option is Peltier from Cardiff, but I feel Bednarek has a higher ceiling hence why I’m going with him currently. Swapping Shaw and Bednarek with 2×4.5 is something I’m weighting up.

Midfielders

Salah – 13.0 – Doesn’t really need an explanation. Been in my team since the game opened, and not going anywhere. Captaincy option every week.

Mane – 9.5 – I’ve had Eriksen in this spot for most parts of the pre-season, but Tottenham is a big worry at the moment with many players yet to return from the WC break, squad players injured, and transfer business yet to happen. Mane is for me the obvious replacement showing decent form in pre-season, as well as kind fixtures at the start and potentially penalties.

Mahrez – 9.0 – Been in and out of my team, but after the game against Chelsea I feel fairly settled with him. Looked dangerous and could easily had returns on another day. Bernardo Silva has crossed my mind, but despite Pep’s quotes I’m not convinced he’s a better pick for the start of the season.

Richarlison – 6.5 – An amazing pick at the start of last season, before totally disappearing. Had great underlying stats, and he’s a player I personally like. Everton’s pre-season form is a worry, but the potential is definitely there at 6.5.

Jota – 6.5 – Been in my team for most of the season. A key attacking player in an interesting Wolves side, and could even be used up front in some games. I’m well aware there’s a good bunch of players that do well in Championship but can’t reproduce those performances in the Premier League, but I have a feeling Jota won’t be one of them. Maddison at Leicester is also a player I’m closely monitoring and I can’t rule out him finding his way into my team at the expense of Jota or Richarlison.

Forwards

Aguero – 11.0 – A player that always finds his way into my team, who I love captaining. This season is no different; he’s been in my team the whole time and the game against Chelsea just made me more confident.

Mitrovic – 6.5 – A player that I like a lot personally. I hoped he would come in at 6.0, but I still think he could be decent value at 6.5. I fully expect him to be Fulham’s penalty taker this season, which is a big advantage.

Kamara – 4.5 – Decided early I wanted to go with a third forward at 4.5, and Kamara seems to be the pick of the bunch. I don’t expect him to be a regular starter, but he’ll probably get some minutes here and there.

Conclusion

I feel fairly confident in my team right now, but a few minor changes are possible. The defence is slightly risky but otherwise I feel my team is pretty safe with decent alternatives to my midfielders and forwards available at the same price point.

What are your thoughts on my team? Have I missed out on any obvious picks, or gone with players that I shouldn’t?

Remember, post your RMTs below in this article. There will be another new RMT Community Article tomorrow.

A bit more tinkering today. Here I am currently:

    Patricio/Hart
    Robertson Mendy Luiz Tomkins AWB
    Salah Mane Jota Richarlison Stephens
    Aguero Arnie King

GK's: Hart coming in priced at 4.5 today with Burnley's fixtures swayed me. Obviously there are doubts about his position when Heaton is fit but I assume Hart starts GW1 and it is then his spot to lose. Wolves/Burnley fixtures rotate very nicely for the first 10 weeks. Patricio at the very least gives me a nailed keeper.

DF's: Robertson/Mendy need no explaining. Luiz I see as a way into a Chelsea defence which has a very nice 5-6 weeks to start the season. Just hope he plays well and keeps his place. Tomkins/AWB is just taking advantage of the good Palace fixtures and their cheap prices. AWB 2nd sub each week.

MD's: Salah, obviously. Mane will start the season for me, but I've kept 0.5 in the bank in case I choose to bring in KDB for GW4, just as Liverpool's games start to look tricky, and Man City's look full of goals. Two 6.5's in Richarlison & Jota. Expecting returns from both. Plenty of other promising options in this price bracket if one fails to impress early. I'll have my eye on Maddison as a potential replacement. Stephens 3rd sub bench fodder, hopefully offering regular 2-3pts if he is for any reason called upon.

ST's: Aguero was in my team prior to Sunday, and he was completely nailed after it. Arnie is another who I have a big soft spot for and expect to score frequently again, no matter who he's up against. King has leapfrogged Zaha and made it into my front line too. 0.5 cheaper, nice early fixtures, and seems to be in the goals during pre-season. Again, plenty of good striking options around the 6.0-7.0 bracket if I need to switch him out.

    Thoughts?

    A) Mane, Firmino, B. Silva

    or

    B) Salah, Arnautovic, Pedro

Going two different routes. The first version would be a flexible 3-4-3 / 3-5-2, while the second is a more rigid 3-4-3. Would appreciate any feedback:
    V. 1:
    Ederson (Hamer)
Robertson - Daniels - Mendy (AWB, Peltier)
    Salah - Sanchez - B. Silva - Mkhitaryan - Jota
    King - Aguero (Arnautovic)

    V. 2: Begovic (Hennesey) [Bourn-CP rotation]
    Daniels, Bailly (AWB, Peltier)
    B. Silva - Richarlison - Mane - Jota (Hudson-Odoi)
    Aguero - Aubamenyang - Firminho¨

I'll leave the reasoning behind my choices for later comments, as I don't want that to colour your responses.

Pretty good. Replace Hudson-Odoi for a 4.5 starter like Stephens, and i'm not too sure about Richarlison. I'm punting on Pedro myself.

Would go Hamer as a 4m keeper, looks like the only one who might start.

Don't think Fraser's worth 5.5m either. Otherwise pretty good.

    RMT

    Fab Ryan
    Robbo Mendy Tomkins AWB Bennett

0.5 ITB for Eriksen > KDB

      7 years, 7 months ago

Wouldn't go Bennett. Will Eriksen be worth 9.5m when Spurs will be so weakened at the start?

Might go Zaha or even Mitrovic/Wood over Arnie, just wouldn't feel comfortable starting him every week when the fixtures are so bad, especially if you could save an extra 0.5m

  10. TallestJohn

Made a few changes for the first time in a while, quite happy with this for now. Still can't quite bring myself to believe that Salah will be worth his price (or at least not worth 3.5m more than Mane).

    Patricio, Foster
    Robertson, Mendy, Janmaat, Boly, Wan-Bissaka
Mane, Bernardo Silva, Lucas Moura, Richarlison, Cairney
    Aguero, Firmino, Mitrovic

Somehow got 3m in the bank but I quite like the flexibility that gives me to bin anyone who underperforms and could still get Salah in 2 transfers if I really got it wrong.

I think I like a team with which I can have 1.0 in the bank. Surely there's something wrong, right? What do you think?

    Fab / Foster
    Robbo / Mendy / TAA / Boly / Wan-B
    Salah / Eriksen / BSilva / Jota / Fraser
    Kun / Arnie / Kamara

While I do realise TAA is a risk and Kamara is a bench fodder, I think I'd still rather have 1 mil in the bank, since I can have a decent starting XI even if TAA, Fraser, and Kamara don't play.

    What do you guys think?

    I'd really appreciate some help.

    1. PvA
      • 9 Years

If you like it then keep the 1m. It's possible for you to upgrade Bilva easily with that money

Also have you considered that you can't get another LFC attacker because of your double up in defence?

      1. sirmorbach

Thank you so very much, PVA. You're always helpful. Thank you for that.

While it is indeed a risk, I think I'm willing to take it. I'm confident TAA will end up playing more often than not, and I don't think I'll get Firmino. My only doubt would be Eriksen/Mané, but since I already have Mo, I think I'll go with Spurs.

        But thanks again, mate.

    Hi Dead Zone!

I agree with the "Who's go the assist" research on Value and plan on 4 or 5 premium defenders all season. Please don't bother telling me I have spent too much in the back. I plan to spend more, dropping a forward to a 4.5 forward and using the money to upgrade Wan-Bissaka once I know who to upgrade him too. Not feeling good about the Chelsea defense right now. Everton fixtures to good to pass up. Want whichever of their forwards is starting while their fixtures last. Expect Siggy to to worth it at least during the good run.

    Fabianski - Ryan
    Mendy - Walker - Robertson - Van Dijk (Wan-Bissaka)
    Salah - Sigerdson - Richarlison - (Cairney) - (Stephens)
    Aguero - Zaha - Tosun

    1.0 left over.

I have had other commitments steal my time this pre-season, so I'm far less aware of news and definately any template thinking this time. Like, say who is the most secure Everton forward. If any.

    Thanks in advance!

Hi mate, got a link to the research you talk about? I've been mulling over going for a cheap uber defence over a premium defence.

I like the team though. Have you thought about PvA over VVD? Would reduce the risk and if you wanted another LFC attacker you could do it

It doesn't look strong enough for a team without Salah.

I'm not sure TAA will start the season. Vert can be a good option but its a big investment for some mixed fixtures for the first few GWs. If you're playing a 3-4-3 I'd downgrade Neves to a 4.5m and upgrade TAA to a 5.5m

Replied earlier. Looks good bar Bertrand for me.

Not convinced about Mahrez. I think he could be the subject of a lot of rotation when Sterling, Silva, KDB return. Not sure Bertrand is worth 5 either. Rest looks good. Can you help me out below?

Unsure on Shaw. Austin is a bit risky due to injury record.

      Otherwise I like it.
