In our fourth article of the series, Niemi has given us his team, and some explanations of his choices. Feel free to comment on his team.

This is also a place for you to post your team; please respond to a few others while you’re at it!

Mods have been alerted and will spend some time on these pages responding.

Let’s try to keep the main article pages free from RMTs!

Niemi’s RMT

Patricio – Hamer
Mendy – Robertson – Shaw – Wan-Bissaka – Bednarek
Salah – Mane – Mahrez – Richarlison – Jota
Aguero – Mitrovic – Kamara

Goalkeepers

Patricio – 4.5 – I really like Patricio as a GK, I think he’s genuine quality. At 4.5 in a team that have strengthened a lot during the summer I think he could be one of the great bargains this season. It’s a slight risk going with a GK who’s new to the league in a promoted team, but it’s a risk that could easily pay off. I’m going to play him every week.

Hamer – 4.0 – It seems like Hamer have a shot of starting some games for Huddersfield, so he’s my pick of the 4.0s

Defenders

Robertson – 6.0 – Impressive end to last season, very attacking, decent opening fixtures and no World Cup. An easy and sensible pick in my eyes.

Mendy – 6.0 – I was initially lukewarm to Mendy as a pick, but he looks likely to start the first few games and Pep seems confident he’ll become a key player in the Manchester City side this season. With the amazing run of fixtures between gameweek 2 and 7 I’m taking the risk.

Shaw – 5.0 – Another defender I wasn’t convinced about earlier in the preseason. Although he’s now found his way into my team, I’m not totally convinced on how long he’ll remind a starter. Probably the player in my team I’m least convinced about.

Wan-Bissaka – 4.0 – Has made the right back spot his own during preseason, and is an obvious pick with Palace’s nice opening fixtures. I’ve seen Crystal Palace linked to a few right backs though, so I’m monitoring their movements on the transfer market the final days.

Bednarek – 4.0 – Emerged late last season as a budget defender and kept his price for this season. Seems to be prefered alongside Vestergaard and de Hoedt in the back three, but is facing competition from Stephens. A more nailed option is Peltier from Cardiff, but I feel Bednarek has a higher ceiling hence why I’m going with him currently. Swapping Shaw and Bednarek with 2×4.5 is something I’m weighting up.

Midfielders

Salah – 13.0 – Doesn’t really need an explanation. Been in my team since the game opened, and not going anywhere. Captaincy option every week.

Mane – 9.5 – I’ve had Eriksen in this spot for most parts of the pre-season, but Tottenham is a big worry at the moment with many players yet to return from the WC break, squad players injured, and transfer business yet to happen. Mane is for me the obvious replacement showing decent form in pre-season, as well as kind fixtures at the start and potentially penalties.

Mahrez – 9.0 – Been in and out of my team, but after the game against Chelsea I feel fairly settled with him. Looked dangerous and could easily had returns on another day. Bernardo Silva has crossed my mind, but despite Pep’s quotes I’m not convinced he’s a better pick for the start of the season.

Richarlison – 6.5 – An amazing pick at the start of last season, before totally disappearing. Had great underlying stats, and he’s a player I personally like. Everton’s pre-season form is a worry, but the potential is definitely there at 6.5.

Jota – 6.5 – Been in my team for most of the season. A key attacking player in an interesting Wolves side, and could even be used up front in some games. I’m well aware there’s a good bunch of players that do well in Championship but can’t reproduce those performances in the Premier League, but I have a feeling Jota won’t be one of them. Maddison at Leicester is also a player I’m closely monitoring and I can’t rule out him finding his way into my team at the expense of Jota or Richarlison.

Forwards

Aguero – 11.0 – A player that always finds his way into my team, who I love captaining. This season is no different; he’s been in my team the whole time and the game against Chelsea just made me more confident.

Mitrovic – 6.5 – A player that I like a lot personally. I hoped he would come in at 6.0, but I still think he could be decent value at 6.5. I fully expect him to be Fulham’s penalty taker this season, which is a big advantage.

Kamara – 4.5 – Decided early I wanted to go with a third forward at 4.5, and Kamara seems to be the pick of the bunch. I don’t expect him to be a regular starter, but he’ll probably get some minutes here and there.

Conclusion

I feel fairly confident in my team right now, but a few minor changes are possible. The defence is slightly risky but otherwise I feel my team is pretty safe with decent alternatives to my midfielders and forwards available at the same price point.

What are your thoughts on my team? Have I missed out on any obvious picks, or gone with players that I shouldn’t?

Remember, post your RMTs below in this article. There will be another new RMT Community Article tomorrow.

      Defence is trouble for me.
Wan and Taa not locked in if your going to start them.
Cedric not locked in to come on for the above and Holebas is a yellow cards best friend.

Probably don't need KDB yet either.

Not sure about spurs assets so early with key players missing.. they have looked poor in pre season. Also would be worried with no Salah based on track record and ownership

I think Mane is as good as Salah for much cheaper. He also *might* get penalty duty if Milner is not on the pitch. Took one in pre-season with him on it as well though.

        Agree about the Spurs assets.

Going to go a bit further and do as these topics do, explain my selections further:

    Alisson – Hamer
    Robertson – Mendy – Tomkins – Wan-Bissaka – Peltier
    Salah – Richarlison – Jota – Townsend – Stephens
    Aguero – Aubameyang – Arnautovic

    +0.5 in the bank.

    Goalkeepers

Alisson – 5.5 – I prefer him to Ederson as I think he will get more save points. Last season for all his good work Ederson only made 58 saves vs Alissons 107 (I know I know different League different team). With Liverpools defense improving after Van Dijk came in and hopefully Alisson racking up the save points I could see him being this seasons DDG

Hamer – 4.0 – Cheap none playing keeper, think he's the most likely of the 4.0 keepers to force his way in. Lossl has a mistake in him and I see Huddersfield struggeling this year so could see Hamer coming in to try and help the slide

    Defenders

Robertson – 6.0 – Was one of the first names on the teamsheet for me, had him in late last season where he did really well for me. 1 goal, 4 assists & 4 clean sheets in his last 8 games

Mendy – 6.0 – Was really impressed with him early on last season, with Peps comments about him giving him formation options we could see 3-5-2 with him at wing back which increases his value even more

Tomkins – 4.5 – Best 4.5 option imo, attacking threat and a great run of early fixtures

Wan-Bissaka – 4.0 – Most nailed on 4.0 defender and as with Tomkins a great run of early fixtures

Peltier – 4.0 – Cheap 2nd/3rd bench spot most nailed on after Wan-Bissaka

    Midfielders

Salah – 13.0 – No explanantion needed, think he will still be Liverpools biggest threat this season

Richarlison – 6.5 – One of the best performers in all FPL under Silva at Watford last season before the wheels came off. I think he'll have a point to prove and with better players now around him I expect him to outperform his 6.5 price tag

Jota – 6.5 – Saw a lot of him in the Championship last season, he was a different class, Premier League player playing in the Championship. Yes not all players make the step up right away but I think Jota is one who will

Townsend – 6.0 – A recent addition, had Sanchez & Zaha until I swapped them to Townsend & Aguero. The want to get Aguero into the team (rather than dealing with the Man City Midfield mindfield) along with the pre season form of Townsend has inspired these changes

Stephens – 4.5 – Cheap 2nd/3rd bench spot won't be bring in many point but should be starting every week

    Forwards

Aguero – 11.0 – Allows me to avoid the Man City Midfield mindfield, yes may be a slight risk of rotation with Jesus but there's also the chance that Jesus could play wide or City could play a 3-5-2 formation with both up top

Aubameyang – 11.0 – He proved what a goal threat he could be for Arsenal last season, very excited about his prospects this season

Arnautovic – 7.0 – If a striker doesn't come in, every chance he could be starting up top for West Ham a lot. Even if not he's still a great pick at 7.0 for me

    1. Son is Rising
      • 15 Years

Goalkeepers: Seems solid, like the Alisson pick. I expect Pool to be stronger this year as Karius wasn't really up to standard and with VVD strengthening.
Def:Similar to mine. I've gone VVD as I'm not convinced about Robertson's goal threat.
Mid: Not sold on Townsend, think there is better value out there.
      Forwards: Strong

      Well written!

I personally think your midfield is too weak and downgrading one of Aruba or Arnautovic might be needed?!

        7 years, 7 months ago

Thanks for the feedback and yeah midfield is the obvious weakness but really liking the front 3 so don't really want to downgrade one.

Previously had Sanchez & Zaha rather than Townsend & Aguero but feel the latter is stronger.

Really like this team and thought behind it. Personally this downgrading Jota to Neves might be worth it to allow you to upgrade elsewhere (maybe Townsend?)

Out of Jota/Richarlison/Townsend I think Jota's going to be the best of the lot so not too keen on downgrading him or doubling up on Wolves.

Might see what I can do with Richarlison & Townsend.

For a team with Auba Kun and Salah I think it is hard to do much better.
But as stated above I would send Arnie to fodder and upgrade Townsend.
Thanks for the detailed write up.
What's really annoying sometimes is that the longer posts don't get replies cause nobody can be bothered reading them 🙂

Thanks for the feedback, I personally would rather read peoples reasoning's behind their picks (like these top of these topics do) rather than just 15 players with no reasoning behind it.

But yeah I'm sure most just skip over!

    5. Reckoner.
      • 14 Years

Just to add, I have played about with upgrading the Midfield but don't really like what it does to the rest of the team.

What I would say is I think I'm in a flexible position to downgrade one of the midfielders and upgrade one of the defenders / downgrade one of the forwards and upgrade one of the midfielders / move from one of the underperforming 6.5/6.0 midfielders to one of the performing ones.

I guess the aim I had was to get as many of the players I want in (Alisson, Robertson, Mendy, Salah, Aubameyang, Aguero, Arnautovic), then fill in the gaps with flexible options around them (Tomkins, Jota, Richarlison, Townsend).

    Ederson
    Robertson, Luiz, Tomkins, Kabasele

Good side, are you set on Luiz? Lots of options in that price category. I think the best front 3 in the sort of price ranges you're looking at is Aguero, Arnie, King.

      Thx.
Thinking about Coleman/Bailly as well tbh, but expect Chelsea defense to be better than expected here and Luiz will be nailed imo. Don't trust Arnie to score a lot in the first GWs, but the 7m forward decision is a gamble anyway 🙂

Thoughts on this would be appreciated:

    Foster Fabianski
    Mendy TAA Shaw Tomkins AWB
    Salah bernardo Mkhitaryan Richarlison Stephens
    Aubameyang firmino Arnautovic

Main things I’m thinking of are:
    Richarlison or Jota or Pedro

Aubameyang or Aguero but think that could be my first transfer if I start with Aubameyang GW1

Arnautovic or Zaha or Tosun (probably the problem most have and if I selected Tosun then Richarlison would come out to avoid doubling up on Everton attack)

    1. Ëð

Jota for me. I think start with Aguero then maybe move to Auba. And I'd stick with Arnie, he proved last season he could score against anyone.

I might consider King to Zaha depending on if Zaha gets a move away this week.

Looks good except I'm not sold on Bailly. I think Mou is going to have one of his stinker seasons this year, the noises coming out of OT are not good.

I was struggling to decide between Luiz, Bailly & Coleman - I still think Bailly is probably the best from that bunch?

One of the best teams I've seen so far.
Think you'll need to offload Bilva in a few weeks, but sure you're aware of.

      Very good team.
      Nearly identical to my team.
I've gone Luiz over Bailly and Richarlison over Jota.

    RMT: Final Build

    Patriccio (Button)
    Luiz, TAA, Shaw, (Wan-Bissaka, Peltier)
    Sanchez(c), Mane, Sane, B.Silva,(Stephens)
    Aguero,Firmino,Austin

0 ITB, 0 spent on the bench, A tad risky in the defence but I want to try and get off to a flyer. I think Salah will score around 20 goals if fit this year, so the 13m seems a tad excessive.

Depends if you are trying to come in the top 10k or trying to win it! I think if you are after the latter then starting without Salah is not a bad shout.

Worth two weaker players for Aubamayang up top? Will be essential come GW3 and don't like planning transfers.

    Robertson Mendy Bellerin Wan-B
    Salah Mane Bilva Cairney
    Aguero Aubamayang
    Button Kamara Stephens Peltier

    RMT for GW1
    0.5 ITB

    Patricio(Fabianski)
    Walker Robertson PVA (Boly) (AWB)
    Salah(c) Mane Bilva Richarlison Cairney
    Aguero(vc) Zaha (Kamara)

Any suggestions for the remaining 0.5 ITB or should i save it?

Mendy in for PVA. If I hadn't used up my 3 city in the attack I'd have Mendy for sure. My tip for top scoring defender.

Different crowd from 2 hours ago. So going with a shameless repost 🙂

Ok I know the risks and I know this is not popular but my formation will be 451.
I have .5 ITB for Eriksen to KDB in GW3.
Coleman is just a Bellerin or possibly a Bailly placeholder for now
So given this formation any changes you would make?

    Foster

    Robertson Mendy Coleman Tomkins

    Salah Mane Eriksen Bilva Frazer

    Aubameyang

    Button Wan-B Kamara Quaner

love it with the exception of Coleman, Fraser is my favourite cheapy punt in the game this season. That midfield is devastating.

        Thanks for reply.
Who would go for in the Coleman spot for now.
I don't want to go Bellerin til GW3 and I want to leave the option open for a utd defender too.
If I think Bailly starts o. Friday he gets the spot.
But has a knock apart from that do you think he can nail a spot.
        Any other suggestions welcome.

I would consider Luiz, I think Sarri sees him as the no.1 central defender at chelsea and Sarri had a decent defensive record at Napoli. Otherwise I'm not all that impressed by the 5.5 crowd. You obviously can't take TAA due to 3 pool but If your'e feeling punty give Shaw a crack at 5. Could be like Phil Jones was last year.

On the midfield the problem will be when Bilva starts losing minute
I may have to do something like
        Mane Eriksen and BSilva to
        Mahrez KDB and Mkhi
        But even if I don't use a transfer in GW2 that's still a hit in GW3

I have similar issues, Bilva, Shaw are potentially 2nd string players at full strength. Thankfully there seems to be a few bottom price defenders and mids who can cover if the worst happens.
