Introduction to the Article Type

With so many RMTs on site, we’re going to start collecting them in these RMT Community Articles.

In our fourth article of the series, Niemi has given us his team, and some explanations of his choices. Feel free to comment on his team.

This is also a place for you to post your team; please respond to a few others while you’re at it!

Mods have been alerted and will spend some time on these pages responding.

Let’s try to keep the main article pages free from RMTs!

Niemi’s RMT

Patricio – Hamer
Mendy – Robertson – Shaw – Wan-Bissaka – Bednarek
Salah – Mane – Mahrez – Richarlison – Jota
Aguero – Mitrovic – Kamara

Goalkeepers

Patricio – 4.5 – I really like Patricio as a GK, I think he’s genuine quality. At 4.5 in a team that have strengthened a lot during the summer I think he could be one of the great bargains this season. It’s a slight risk going with a GK who’s new to the league in a promoted team, but it’s a risk that could easily pay off. I’m going to play him every week.

Hamer – 4.0 – It seems like Hamer have a shot of starting some games for Huddersfield, so he’s my pick of the 4.0s

Defenders

Robertson – 6.0 – Impressive end to last season, very attacking, decent opening fixtures and no World Cup. An easy and sensible pick in my eyes.

Mendy – 6.0 – I was initially lukewarm to Mendy as a pick, but he looks likely to start the first few games and Pep seems confident he’ll become a key player in the Manchester City side this season. With the amazing run of fixtures between gameweek 2 and 7 I’m taking the risk.

Shaw – 5.0 – Another defender I wasn’t convinced about earlier in the preseason. Although he’s now found his way into my team, I’m not totally convinced on how long he’ll remind a starter. Probably the player in my team I’m least convinced about.

Wan-Bissaka – 4.0 – Has made the right back spot his own during preseason, and is an obvious pick with Palace’s nice opening fixtures. I’ve seen Crystal Palace linked to a few right backs though, so I’m monitoring their movements on the transfer market the final days.

Bednarek – 4.0 – Emerged late last season as a budget defender and kept his price for this season. Seems to be prefered alongside Vestergaard and de Hoedt in the back three, but is facing competition from Stephens. A more nailed option is Peltier from Cardiff, but I feel Bednarek has a higher ceiling hence why I’m going with him currently. Swapping Shaw and Bednarek with 2×4.5 is something I’m weighting up.

Midfielders

Salah – 13.0 – Doesn’t really need an explanation. Been in my team since the game opened, and not going anywhere. Captaincy option every week.

Mane – 9.5 – I’ve had Eriksen in this spot for most parts of the pre-season, but Tottenham is a big worry at the moment with many players yet to return from the WC break, squad players injured, and transfer business yet to happen. Mane is for me the obvious replacement showing decent form in pre-season, as well as kind fixtures at the start and potentially penalties.

Mahrez – 9.0 – Been in and out of my team, but after the game against Chelsea I feel fairly settled with him. Looked dangerous and could easily had returns on another day. Bernardo Silva has crossed my mind, but despite Pep’s quotes I’m not convinced he’s a better pick for the start of the season.

Richarlison – 6.5 – An amazing pick at the start of last season, before totally disappearing. Had great underlying stats, and he’s a player I personally like. Everton’s pre-season form is a worry, but the potential is definitely there at 6.5.

Jota – 6.5 – Been in my team for most of the season. A key attacking player in an interesting Wolves side, and could even be used up front in some games. I’m well aware there’s a good bunch of players that do well in Championship but can’t reproduce those performances in the Premier League, but I have a feeling Jota won’t be one of them. Maddison at Leicester is also a player I’m closely monitoring and I can’t rule out him finding his way into my team at the expense of Jota or Richarlison.

Forwards

Aguero – 11.0 – A player that always finds his way into my team, who I love captaining. This season is no different; he’s been in my team the whole time and the game against Chelsea just made me more confident.

Mitrovic – 6.5 – A player that I like a lot personally. I hoped he would come in at 6.0, but I still think he could be decent value at 6.5. I fully expect him to be Fulham’s penalty taker this season, which is a big advantage.

Kamara – 4.5 – Decided early I wanted to go with a third forward at 4.5, and Kamara seems to be the pick of the bunch. I don’t expect him to be a regular starter, but he’ll probably get some minutes here and there.

Conclusion

I feel fairly confident in my team right now, but a few minor changes are possible. The defence is slightly risky but otherwise I feel my team is pretty safe with decent alternatives to my midfielders and forwards available at the same price point.

What are your thoughts on my team? Have I missed out on any obvious picks, or gone with players that I shouldn’t?

Remember, post your RMTs below in this article. There will be another new RMT Community Article tomorrow.

    Any help appreciated, thoughts?

    Patricio
    Robertson, Mendy, PVA
    Salah, Mane, Bilva, Jota
    Aguero, Arnie, King

    4.0, Cairney, WanB, Bednarek

Like this a lot. West Ham fixtures not great, very mixed, they have a lot of new players to gel and Arnie may be pushed wide with new signings so some concern over him.

Fair point, cheers mate. I’m still uncertain on Arnie, playing around with his position. Don’t fancy Mitrovic as I have Cairney.

Could bring in Firmino for him and then lose Mane? Or Arnie to Auba, lose Mane and play Cairney?

Bringing in Firmino best option but think you need 2 9.5 m midfielders to give flexibility to jump on Hazard or KDB if start firing so personally would go Mitrovic and Cairney to Hughes but if do not want to do that then get Tosun

    Patricio (Stekelenburg)
    Tarkowski, Robertson, PVA (Malone, Wan-Bissaka)

Light at the back, don't like Burnley defence due to the amount of fixtures they will be playing across PL and EL

A new idea I've been made aware of. Going for value players and rotating them aggressively.

    Foster (Fabianski)
    Robertson, Mendy, Bellerin PvA (TAA)
    Salah, Eriksen, Richarlison, Jota (Fraser)
    Aguero, King (4.5m)

On GW1 it would look like:

    Foster (Fabianski)
    Robertson, PvA, TAA (Mendy, Bellerin)
    Salah, Eriksen, Richarlison, Jota, Fraser
    Aguero, King (4.5m)

    Thoughts?

I just like Patricio, think he may hoover up saves/baps and rotation with Foster means neither meet top 6 until week 15 but agree Fabianski also great option. Very mild concern about competition from Adrián

      Patricio / Begovic
      VVD / Mendy / Tomkins / Daniels / Wan-Bissaka
      Salah / Mané / Bilva / Jota / Cairney
      Kun / Zaha / King

Tried balancing it as far as I could stretch it. Wanted to avoid two 4.0 defs, 4.5 mid/fwd to have a bit more flexibility. Landed on 3-4-3 as main setup but can accomadate other formations if needed.

Wondering if the defense needs more rebalancing, i.e. downgrading one of vvd/mendy and upgrading either Tomkins/Daniels. They rotate quite well though, but also open to shifting them to better alternatives if possible.

Anything else missing you can spot? Hit me!

the obvious comment here is the you have completely ignored the defence and also your fwds to some degree. I would think about downgrading one mid.

do you need to take the gamble on shaw if you have DDG?

I think Bournemouth have a good shout at CSs with their run of fixtures and Daniels is a certain starter. If United start out well, no harm in doubling down on their defence since I think Shaw will start.

I would consider downgrading 1 mid and upgrading Firminho based on which big hitter shows up during the first few gameweeks. I am banking on my midfielders to do the job till then.

Every time I think I’m settled before season starts or a big GW, I go and read scout picks and use the members RMT tool and get doubts! Biggest surprises for the opener are the shade the tool has thrown at Bilva and Mendy, telling me to play S.Cook over Tomkins and Hughes over Richarlison etc. Am I reading into this stuff too much?!

I have a similar team below - so I like your set up.

the only comments I could make would be purely gut feelings on the value of certain players but the flexibility and bench support is good imo

Cheers mate. Trouble is my gut feelings change all the time!

Maybe start of the season is the wrong time to look too much at RMT tool but it worried me!

I would swap Tomkins for Schlupp. And maybe Jota for Richarlison?

Unfort strongly disagree re Schlupp. Tomkins v consistently decent player for his price

Jota v Rich is hard to call. I’ve gone with Richarlison as he performs well under Silva and feels better overall pick than Jota who may do better short term

have tried to avoid doing a RMT this pre-season to try and follow my gut but would appreciate hearing any reasons for people’s concerns over this

fabianksi (steele - fire and forget with fabs)
Mendy Robertson Jagielka Cedric AWB (if everton don’t sign a CB can rotate between jags/Cedric/AWB for the 3rd def spot)
    mane richarlison salah bilva Cairney
    zaha arnie kun

nothing set in stone but feels this set up gives me a full 14 outfield players with back up for bilva as the short term punt

    thanks guys for any comments

Decently strong mate. Personally not a fan of Everton defenders but really like the front 3!
