There were a few surprise selections in Unai Emery and Pep Guardiola’s starting XIs ahead of this afternoon’s 16:00 BST encounter between Arsenal and Manchester City at the Emirates.

The headline news was perhaps Raheem Sterling‘s (£11.0m) inclusion in the City line-up, although Guardiola had teased the prospect of that possibility in his press conference on Friday.

Leroy Sane (£9.5m) is the fall-guy in the Sky Blues’ line-up, to the chagrin of the 14.3% of FPL managers who own the wide-midfielder.

Kevin De Bruyne (£10.0m), another late returner after his World Cup exertions, starts on the bench for the reigning Premier League champions this afternoon.

The rest of Guardiola’s starting XI is perhaps as expected, with Sergio Aguero (£11.0m) leading the line and Riyad Mahrez (£9.0m) handed his City league debut.

Alexandre Lacazette (£9.5m) always looked at some risk of being benched for the visit of City and the French forward indeed starts among Arsenal’s substitutes, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.0m) fielded as the spearhead of the Gunners’ attack.

Though not likely to cause many ructions in the Fantasy community, Matteo Guendouzi (£4.5m) – who admittedly has had a fine pre-season for Emery’s side – has been preferred to the more experienced Lucas Torreira (£5.0m) in the engine room. Aaron Ramsey (£7.5m) also gets a start for the Gunners.

Nacho Monreal (£5.5m) has failed to prove his fitness, so FPL midfielder Ainsley Maitland-Niles (£4.5m) deputises at left-back.

Arsenal XI (4-3-3): Cech; Bellerin, Mustafi, Sokratis, Maitland-Niles; Xhaka, Guendouzi, Ramsey; Ozil, Mkhitaryan, Aubameyang

Manchester City XI (4-2-3-1): Ederson; Walker, Stones, Laporte, Mendy; Fernandinho, Gundogan; Bernardo, Mahrez, Sterling; Aguero

What to do with Mahrez? Poor performance and probably doesn't start next gw.

I put Mahrez and Schurrle in my team just so i could have the priciest players among the options i liked the most and downgrade easily in case i needed to.

It would have been more complicated to upgrade from B.Silva to Mahrez; right now i might downgrade to B.Silva.

Yeah he’ll start next week. Pep wants him getting use to the system asap and Huddersfield would be a perfect team to keep learning it. Keep hold I say, I am

    DDG
    Shaw - Mendy- TAA
Salah - Mane - Richarlison- Bilva
    King - Aguero -Tosun

    Stekelenburg - WB - Stephens - Peltier

Guys I got 97 this GW and have 0.5 in the bank? What exactly should I do now as I left 0.5 in the bank just to make a better transfer after Gameweek 1. Any suggestion will be welcomed

Our starting 11s are very similar, except instead of Shaw, TAA, Aguero and Tosun, I have Robertson, Tomkins, Auba and Arnie. I scored 2 points less than you this GW, but am planning to hold. Hope that helps.

Yep.. absolutely gutted. I still did very well (90 pts) but in 5 seasons of playing FPL I never managed to leave 29 points on the bench (with Hamer and Stephens getting 3 pts combined).

It made sense at the time.

All of my starting defenders were more likely to keep a CS:
          Shaw vs LEI
          Robertson vs WHU
          Davies vs new

All of my mids had good fixtures:
Salah and Mane vs WHU (as if I'd bench them lol)
          Fraser vs CAR
          Richarlison vs wat

And so did all of my strikers (bar Aguero, who I'd never even think of benching):
King vs CAR (I thought he was on pens?)
Mitrovic vs CPA (Had about 7 shots and should have had a penalty)

I thought that my strikers / mids would have a better chance at getting attacking returns than Mendy, and I thought that my starting defenders were likelier to keep a CS.

Benching Richarlison was objectively a poor decision. Once you choose to have someone like him you need to play him against a promoted side like Wolves. Mendy slightly more understandable given they were playing Arsenal but benching 6m defenders never good idea. AWB completely understandable. Everyone did same.

Fielded W-B, PVA and Mendy. Cher-ching!

You team link show you don't own Mendy and you played Richarlison.

No one would bench Richarlison for that fixture

He's good for at least another week but despite the goal, i wasn't overly impressed with his contribution in terms of fantasy point potential.

I think thats just bad luck - Although personally I played Mendy as I thought that game would go exactly as it did in terms of the way it panned out. Mendy getting two assists obviously couldn't be dreamed about and it did punish your decision. Just don't do it again ha

I benched the other two you had as well. Not overly fussed as I had Fraser.. But had to bench someone. Wolves are better than Cardiff hence the decision. Anybody who thought Rich would score two is bending the truth ha.

But dust yourself down and move on. GW2 is only a few days away!

So many high scores...can’t even say I’m happy with nearly 100 with all this random scores...but what does make me happy is enthusiasm of commoners that rub it in the face of veterans out here...lol...after 1 week.
Like...yeah, Sturridge did it for me - better then Firminho- what do you know 🙂

Can't say. My view is even if not starting they might come off bench and haul. I have both, I'd take one starting to be honest.

Keep Pedro or sell to get Richarlison ? I know that Pedro scored but it's a tricky one, Pedro is a differential, Richarlison is template. Two possibilities :

    A) If Pedro outscores Richarlison in the next gameweeks, I'm the king of the world of the midprice mids.
    B) If Richarlison outscores Pedro, he will be out of reach (0.1 shy since obvious price rise in the next few days) and I'm in big trouble.

What to do my friends ?

Keep, why sell a player that was on form in pre-season, plays for a better team and delivered for you? Yes, he might be rotated, but deal with that if it happens. Rich is yellow flagged and might be subbed of at 60min next game.

74 a great score for me considering I started setting up my team 45 minutes before the deadline because I was very busy this summer. Tried to read as many information from here as I could during the set-up. The bad thing however, was that 2 minutes before the deadline I could decide on my last two spots, so I just clicked auto-fill (It chose Hazard and Azpi) so I could confirm my transfers and set up my starting team. While the transfers were being confirmed, the deadline already passed and I couldn't set up my starting team, leaving Azpi on the bench instead of Peltier, and Arnautovic captain instead of Mane. Overall, pretty pleased so let's see how things go. Link to my team: https://fantasy.premierleague.com/a/team/317166/event/1
