Fantasy Premier League managers are encouraged to factor the Gameweek 2 set-piece match-ups in their transfer plans in the next few days.

In the first of a new series of Members articles we will assess where set play situations can be exploited each week.

Where this differs from the set-pieces tab is that we have added extra detail on how many of each set-piece has been taken so far, which players have had the most attempts from set-plays in terms of goal efforts, as well as how like teams are to receive or give away free kicks or penalties.

That way, by comparing each team’s overall set-piece data to find any mismatches, individuals expected to benefit from these situations will become clearer.

We ran similar articles during the World Cup and found them to helpful to Fantasy managers, hence why we have decided to bring them to FPL.

Obviously we only have round of data so far so it may difficult to find too many over-arching trends right now, but we’ll be building on this template every week for Members to use when making their transfers or deciding on team selection.

Any differences between the takers here and on the set-pieces tab are purely because that individual is not available in Gameweek 2. For example, Junior Stanislas is an important figure in set-pieces for Bournemouth but will not feature at West Ham through injury, so we have removed him the list of potential takers for this weekend’s match.

I am amazed more people dont consider Kane as the best captian choice this week.

Sure he's not in most teams around here - but putting that aside he has the easiest of fixtures and at home. Vs a tough away game for Salah and a not nailed Aguero or Sterling

the fixture is prime for our Harry but he's definitely out of sorts

I see your point though he could well bag a hatty regardless

I think our decisions on the main captain poll are usually based on the players we own though

31% of people own Kane. Could be scary if he does score a hatty.

maybe in the short-term but those owning kane right now are mostly "casuals" - what that means is they will probably tail off by mid season latest - no threat there

Jimenez has a 13/13 penalty record which should warrant a place on the list over a few of the other Wolves players.

Neves also missed one in preseason, wouldn't surprise me if Jimenez took them. But Jimenez may not always be on the pitch

Maybe not until he gets one with Neves on the pitch. Not sure why they rotated the penalties so much last season, maybe because Championship was too easy?

Yep. Good thing is Arnie has 3 lovely fixtures back to back, and King has another home game next week.

King probably on. Orrowed time to be honest. If he hasn’t scored points by the end of GW3 he’s gone for me, can’t wait around forever

He hasn't been a starting striker in a long time. A goal contribution every 60 minutes last season and every 80 minutes the season before in Portugal. Worked out in GW1, but I'm not expecting him to be a season keeper, seems to be injury prone too.

    Hi chaps,
I generally tend to avoid promoted teams/players but went with Jota as I thought he was Wolves' "talisman" and partly OOP as a mid in the forward line. A lot of the chatter since the game suggests people are shipping him already. I haven't had a chance to watch any highlights but can anyone tell me what was so bad about his performance? I'm definitely holding for now but interested why his stock has dropped.

    Cheers

I'm in the camp of not making any transfers in this GW unless absolutely critical. I've panicked and made some silly moves by taking hits last year.

Mind you, it's easier when you've had a decent GW and aren't figuring out how to rectify a "mess" which likely does not exist.

To all my FPL bretherin, leave it be this GW. You'll have 2 FTs next GW and more data to guide your decision making.

I technically feel the same way, but with renewed confidence in Pogba's stay at ManU, I was always going to trade my guaranteed GW1 ManU starter (Sanchez) for the now 1st choice penalty shooter Pogba who leaves me with $2.5mil up my sleeve. We've seen him play 83 minutes when he was a suspect starter, been given the penalty role, made captain & rose $100K. I played safe starter, selecting Sanchez GW1, but the use of a transfer was a no brainer .... and I did it before the price rise.
