Fantasy Premier League managers are encouraged to factor the Gameweek 2 set-piece match-ups in their transfer plans in the next few days.

In the first of a new series of Members articles we will assess where set play situations can be exploited each week.

Where this differs from the set-pieces tab is that we have added extra detail on how many of each set-piece has been taken so far, which players have had the most attempts from set-plays in terms of goal efforts, as well as how like teams are to receive or give away free kicks or penalties.

That way, by comparing each team’s overall set-piece data to find any mismatches, individuals expected to benefit from these situations will become clearer.

We ran similar articles during the World Cup and found them to helpful to Fantasy managers, hence why we have decided to bring them to FPL.

Obviously we only have round of data so far so it may difficult to find too many over-arching trends right now, but we’ll be building on this template every week for Members to use when making their transfers or deciding on team selection.

Any differences between the takers here and on the set-pieces tab are purely because that individual is not available in Gameweek 2. For example, Junior Stanislas is an important figure in set-pieces for Bournemouth but will not feature at West Ham through injury, so we have removed him the list of potential takers for this weekend’s match.

As an Irishman I have to say i'm delighted Celtic are out. Too many times last season the Irish broadcasters would show Celtic CL games instead of, say, Man City, Spurs or some of the European elite

I don't know many Celtic fans that don't love talking about the club's 'politics'. Even worse when they're from the 26 counties. The fact that they're a British club seems way over their head.

A British club founded and steeped in Irish roots. Don't see how this seems over your head.

That's a bit like saying someone with Irish roots in Boston is Irish.

Many of the Celtic fans I know say they are anti-British but support a British team. Figure that out. Many are bandwagoners who know zero about Irish history.

Maybe. But they may consider themselves Scottish and not British? I think they have that right, don't you? In the same way that Cliftonville fans consider themselves and their Club Irish.

European night's at Celtic Park have been typically electric and have hosted some amazing games against the 'elite' over the years. Have as much right to play in Europe as the rest of them. Also, Celtic support in Ireland far out numbers support for the likes of Spurs, City etc. Hence the Irish Broadcasters decision to play Celtic games

      1. GreennRed

And they've been competitive too. But most Champions League ties have been electric. I'd prefer if RTE and TV3 would show delayed full coverage of non-British teams, even on the player. There are some cracking games that they'll only show goals from.

Don't care that they're "steeped in irishness". One could argue it's steeped in sectarianism which is what fuels the Rangers rivalry. I just don't give a crap about any of that stuff especially when it comes it football.
I'd rather watch City vs Napoli play good football than watch Celtic get spanked by Bayern, so i'm glad they're out simple as that.

I have a troll Salahless 4-5-1 which I'm trying to get first in Tuvalu with B| ...it outscored my main team this week somehow. I should save FT right?

    Patricio - 4.0
    Mendy - PvA - DLuiz - Bellerin - AWB

As the week creeps on I’m beginning to worry with no City. Didn’t expect the Arsenal game to be what it was, and wanted to evaluate after GW2 to see what the best options are.

My only option is Sanchez > KDB (in my mind). I may just make that move GW3 along with another MC player in. Thoughts?

    Foster
    Luiz Robertson Shaw
    Sanchez Salah Mane Eriksen Jota
    Mitrovic King

    Fab; Peltier, WB, Kamara...0.0

    A question of stripes.

Is it fashion these days or changed regulations that mean Watford's and Southampton's home shirts have stripes only at the front but not the back? It makes for a very weird look, especially since Watford looks great, but from the back it's just a nondescript yellow. Same goes for AEK, who beat Celtic earlier today. As for Southampton, the way they're plain red from the back makes them look like Man Utd given that they have black shorts.

I realise this is not exactly important - but does anyone else agree that this half and half look is A) strange and B) ruins otherwise great looking shirts such as Watford's?

Assume both are starters until proven otherwise. TAA had just returned from WC rest and started over Clyne who had all preseason to stake his claim for a starting spot. Seems like it’s TAAs until proven otherwise.

Shaw may not be #1 choice but with their injury issues he likely starts until young and Valencia are fit.

Diogo Dalot, Herrera, Valencia, Romero, Rojo, Matic.
The 6 not available against Leicester. Mourinho Things these 6 will all be out again against Brighton.
Pogba, Fellaini , Young all have about 9 days training, returning August 6. Rasford 11 days. Thats the WC Players.

I am very unsure about Shaw/Young. But after seeing Bailly and Lindeløf together, im tempted to move Shaw to Lindeløf. Both at 5 mill. But for now, i keep Shaw. Van Bissaka on bench.

Fabianski or Foster this game week?

I have a hunch Foster away to Burnley will do better than Fabianski at home to Bournemouth. Andy on his Let’s Talk FPL video seems to agree.

However, when I use the RMT tool in the members area, the needle swings in Fabianski’s favour.

For those playing with a Fab/Foster rotation, who are you playing this week and why?

I'm playing Fabianski but Foster could do well. Two 0-0's in a row for Burnley. If Burnley fail to score more than one on Thursday, I might switch.

Bournemouth are very attacking, can’t see West Ham keeping a clean sheet. I’d be relying on Fabianski save points.

Burnley no known for their attacking play. The thing they have got going for them this week is that they are at home.

        Tough choice.

This is the downside of rotating keepers, when both fixtures are very similar in difficulty

We knew this would happen (owner)

I'm leaning towards Fabianski for ownership + saves potential

West Ham clean sheet odds - 3.2 and lengthening
      Bournemouth team goals - 1.21

Watford clean sheet odds - 3.1 and shortening
      Burnley team goals - 1.188

It's very close and you could argue Fabianski faces more shots and thus more saves, but on the above alone I'm leaning towards Foster

Evening all. Irritated Sane owner here! Stupidly sat by and watched the Mane rise last night too, so that move would be a 4-pointer as I have nothing ITB. How do you solve a problem like Leroy?

Meanwhile, Josh Murphy - oops! Didn't start against Bournemouth but considering how bad Cardiff were, surely Colin will chuck him in for a home game against the Barcodes?

    Patricio Hamer

Mendy Robbo Cedric (aka 'Mr 55'...grrr) Wan-B Peltier

    Salah Sane Rich Murphy Stephens

    Aguero Auba King

I've been through a million options in my head - here are some of the highlights:

    a) Sane to Eriksen
    b) Sane to someone else 9.5 or less
    c) Murphy to a different 5.0
    d) Sane to Mane and find the 0.1 somewhere else for a -4
    e) Aguero/Auba, Sane > Sterling (C), Firmino -4 (a bit rogue?)
    f) Sane, King > De Bruyne Jimenez
    g) Chill Winston! Save
    h) Something else

Aaarrrgggh....cheers in advance for your wisdom!

'This gameweek' being the kicker, right? I guess if I'm still spooked about him after GW2, I could cut him easily with the 2 FTs and solve Sane at the same time.

Aguero is still the man but the risk feels too great at the moment, even if they are absolutely flying.

Need to 100% know he's going to start in a given game for him to be a viable captain choice too. And if he's not a viable captain choice at that price, then maybe it's time to spread the funds.

KDB/Sterling feels a safer path to tread.

Which pair do you prefer over the next 3-6 games?

It would be impossible to police, no? A player can create teams with multiple e-mail addresses, the only lead would be if the player's name was the same in each team. But even then, people do happen to have same names of course!

They should have deleted both his teams and barred the scumbag from the game for life to set an example.

If fpl really wanted to they could tighten up registration with the game linking phone numbers and even card details for adults who are eligible to claim prizes.

The passive tolerance of FPL towards multi team merchants is my biggest gripe with the game.

Card numbers? No, I would hate to see it go down the gambling route. I know some/a lot of people here play in money leagues but the vast majority play purely for fun.

For the record, I have multiple teams. No, not the way you think - my 'other' teams are purely experimental. One with only Spanish players, one with only French, one with only English etc.

For the record, England won last year, narrowly beating South America who led most of the way.

I understand people have different ways of playing the game but it should be all above board imo like having novelty leagues allowed for.

I am not going to give out to you as i think it a failure on FPLs part.

Yep, it's a simple and easy to follow rule.
Personnally it's one of the reasons the game is so addictive to me, one chance - decision is final - none of this covering your options with 'Aunties' team.

I agree that there should be MUCH heavier consequences for multiple teams.

But “settling an example” isn’t fair either. Why should he be punished harder than the thousands of people that also have multiple teams? Because he was better than them?

Tighten up the registration and/or much harder punishments for multiple teams - but the consequences should of course be the same for all that break the rules.

its so easy , just make multiple teams with diff accounts ,
and the one that does the best in the opening GW's , continue with it , deleting the rest .
Fpl should do something , for people who play this game seriously .

Towards the end of last season, I found two teams in the top 10k who have exactly the same picks, captain picks, transfers, team value, everything for over 30 weeks! It's never a coincidence that two teams make exactly the same choices every week for 30+ gameweeks. It was clearly the same guy running both and then maybe wanting to experiment with chip usage in the season final gameweeks. I emailed FPL and they told me they have different names so we cannot prove it's the same manager. Ridiculous.

I am in a local news paper mini league with a small prize sponsored by a local business and the sports editor of the paper who must have never read the rules has two teams entered.

This chancer is also the league admin to add insult to injury.

I won the league a few seasons ago and used regularly read the weekly article by the editor and he was openly bragging that he had two teams in the top 15 in the league.

Integrity and fair play is something everyone should take seriously and the world would be a better place.

Lots of managers that play this game dream of a top 100 or top 1k finish and being denied by a cheat is a travesty.

The bus who run Who Got The Assist podcast are doing a 'Zombie' League where you can't change your team from GW1, No transfers, captain stays the same etc. I was wondering, and could be wrong, would everyone in this league have multiple teams then? There is even a site that calculates what your score would be if you hadn’t touched your team from day 1. But you would probably pick differently if you were picking for the season.

Oh I know, I'm not saying its hurting anyone, far from it. Just that I don't really see the point but that's my opinion, others obviously do. But I wonder how many of the zombie teams that had a cracking GW1 got used after their active team had a shocking GW1..

Interesting but considering the template team would have outscored lots of zombie teams, I don't think it would have affected much.

DeGea, DeBryune, Salah, Eriksen would have been in a lot of these teams I reckon and they didn't do a whole lot this week.

    Going with this GW2:

    Patricio

    Pereira -- T.A.A -- Lindelof -- Mendy

    Salah (c) -- L.Moura -- Kovacic -- B.Silva -- Mane (vc)

    Aguero

Subs: Hamer – Jimenez -- Zaha -- AWB

    What do you reckon?

    1. EIE
      • 8 Years

It looks good for this GW for sure.

Moura and Bilva are potential rotation risks down the line and TAA will get the odd breather.

Would personally see moving out Kovacic as your top priority, whether this week or next. A great player and always good to watch, but not sure on his FPL prospects - he's never been a regular goalscorer.

FPL need to introduce a report mechanism for multi team entry's and when they find them start banning the cheats.Maybe have some verify by email system for mini league administrators so they can police it properly themselves along with phone and card vitrification.

I have seen lots of blatant cheating going on in this game down through the years and it really gets under my skin.I know lots of people do not know the rules or have never bothered to read them but it should be made clear.

I need a little help for a domestic fantasy game. Pointsystem is roughly the same

    Which pair do you prefer?

    A) Mkhitaryan + Sanchez (classified as a striker)
    B) Fraser + Aguero (C) for a ''-4''

    Salah is the currenct captain

I’d give Wilson a couple more weeks to see if his performance continues. Last season he scored a hattrick and then blanked for numerous weeks

Im thinking about getting a hit next week to do Mahrez, Mitrovic, Wijnaldum to Hazard, Jimenez, Kante

    Current squad:

    Lloris, Stekelenburg
    VVD, Mendy, Davies, Luiz, WB
    Salah, Mahrez, Richarlison, Wijnaldum, Neves
    Aguero, King, Mitrovic

    Should I do it?

Based on no info from upcoming games. What if they all score. Jiminez vs City after this week no? Kante no

      • 9 Years

no way....Mitrovic actually looked better than Jiminez last weekend
and Mahrez will come good and Wijnaldum (well not sure why u had him in the 1st place tbh)

find some other way to get Hazard in.....defence too expensive imo, id play with mendy and davies and wb and maybe a 4.5 and peltier sitting on my bench...plenty for defence if you ask me.

What is considered as an acceptable rank by the veterans on here nowadays? I remember when I first started playing, a top 100k finish was considered as OK. Now it's like don't even fart in the same post code as me if you haven't finished inside the top 10k.. Are sites like this, YouTube content and podcasts etc making it more difficult to obtain that top(?) finish that you targeted pre-season?

Top 10k seems to be the benchmark but it is all relative.

If you played the game in 05/06 which is the first season fpl bothered to keep records for i think there was 810k entry's that season.

So does a top 10k finish in 05/06 have the same value as a top 10k finish last season when there was over 5 million entry's?

The fact that the game has become so popular has indeed made it harder to finish with a low rank.

People with Salah (C) this week should quit the game, you're afraid of the ownership, just follow the casual crowd and dont have you own opition.

My decision is not based on ownership fear.
      Based on Salah hauling fears.
And I will probably only captain Salah or Auba this year based on fixtures. See who is over 250 by the end of the season. I say both of them.
So I am a sheep with no thoughts of my own. QED

    Peltier- Wan-Bissaka- Shaw-van Dijk-Mendy
    Jota - Mane - Salah - Moura - Neves
    Mitro - Aguero - Tosun
