Fantasy Premier League managers are encouraged to factor the Gameweek 2 set-piece match-ups in their transfer plans in the next few days.

In the first of a new series of Members articles we will assess where set play situations can be exploited each week.

Where this differs from the set-pieces tab is that we have added extra detail on how many of each set-piece has been taken so far, which players have had the most attempts from set-plays in terms of goal efforts, as well as how like teams are to receive or give away free kicks or penalties.

That way, by comparing each team’s overall set-piece data to find any mismatches, individuals expected to benefit from these situations will become clearer.

We ran similar articles during the World Cup and found them to helpful to Fantasy managers, hence why we have decided to bring them to FPL.

Obviously we only have round of data so far so it may difficult to find too many over-arching trends right now, but we’ll be building on this template every week for Members to use when making their transfers or deciding on team selection.

Any differences between the takers here and on the set-pieces tab are purely because that individual is not available in Gameweek 2. For example, Junior Stanislas is an important figure in set-pieces for Bournemouth but will not feature at West Ham through injury, so we have removed him the list of potential takers for this weekend’s match.

      Definitely save that FT!
Kun is a rotation risk, but I could see Pep playing 2 up top against Huds.
Depends if you want a diff against Salah or not.

Burnley will play Basaksehir this Thursday and Barnes has big chance to play in that game. I think we should wait for few weeks to see how Dyche will rotate his strikers. We all know he has at least three decent forwards, Vokes, Barnes and Wood.

I wouldn't say country mile. You have your own opinion. I believe Mane has a greater chance of scoring more points as he plays in a further forward position. Also, Crystal Palace let Fulham get a lot of chances but they failed to capitalise on them. Liverpool can easily score 4 or 5 against them. So, in my opinion, Mane would be the better choice.

Think Palace got extremely lucky against Fulham. Fulham should have been atleast 2-0 up by HT and the final scoreline would have been completely different, and so would be everyone's perception about Monday's game.

Morning all. After a strong start with 92 points would it be madness to captain Mendy this weekend over Salah? My thinking is that Palace always seem to be Liverpool's bogey team and its early in the season to take a chance. Also Mendy is basically playing as a winger against a poor Hudersfield team.

I benched Mendy last week. Of what I saw of him, he was at times almost playing as a CF. His ability to run up and down the flanks is ridiculous. Defo considering him or Bavies for the armband this weekend.

      1. supersham
        • 14 Years

I have 5 premium defs and the other 4 looked better prospects on paper - Robertson, Van Dijk, Bavies, Rudiger.

I expected Arsenal to put atleast 1 past City but they looked so out-of-place. And obviously, Mendy went mad. A defender getting 15 points against Arsenal at Emirates is crazy.

    4. Not sure. Your 92 points is irrelevant though.

I think a good strategy is not to get too complacent when you've had a good week, esp where the captain choice is concerned. Captaining a defender is always a risk, regardless of who it is and who the opposition is.There are plenty of good choices in that department in GW2.

    Morning all.

I'm currently deciding between fielding David Luiz (also have Kepa) or bringing in one of my Palace bench defenders - Tomkins or AWB...

What do people think? Can't see Palace keeping a CS, but is the potential for attacking returns greater?

      Has to be Luiz imo..

Do you have another keeper? I would play Luiz at home

I have Stek, so no, not really...

I'm leaning more towards the Chelsea double up at the moment.

Thanks all, I think I'm going to stick with Luiz. Just feels like a smarter choice.

Thoughts on Caping Mendy? Him playing almost winger, seems to be pretty nailed for a start. Huddersfield poor team. 80% CS and 50/50 for an assist/goal. Hopefully some BP. Not very sure Liverpool will have an easy game...

Kun’s not nailed for a start IMO, and in that case I’d rather cap Salah

Catch 22 for me as I have King also, I can see Watford getting a clean sheet against hopefully a tired Burnley from Europa, but Fab likely to get save points? Tough one.

    Am I G2G for GW2?

    Ederson

Robertson - Bavies - Wan Bisakka

    Richarlison - Salah - Mane - Bilva

    Aguero (c) - King - Arnie

Basically the only way I could get Mendy in next week is to get rid of B.Silva, but not sure if that's a good idea...

Kun & Ederson atm.. but if I'd get Mendy, would switch Ederson to Kepa..

Basically changing the pari of Ederson & David Luiz → Kepa & Mendy but need funds from B.Silva, since Mendy went up by 0.1

          Don't ditch Bilva for now.

Ederson IMO is a waste of a City spot with all the options we have in Mendy and other mids/fwds.

Ditch Ederson long term and get Mendy. Don't do it straight away if it means taking hits.

Yeah, won't gonna rush anything.. Secretly hoping for a random Mendy benching that would trigger his price dropping to 6.0 again, but that's not going to happen.. 😆

              Definitely not happening.

He was bought for 50m for a reason. I've watched him play before he arrived in the PL and I can tell you he's a mad beast who's only going to improve A LOT under Guardiola. I'd be surprised if he doesn't finish as the highest scoring defender in FPL this season.

    Captaincy, keep it simple!

    GW1 - I didn't!
Was set on captaining Mane but changed to King(C). In hindsight this was a mistake, a case of trying to be too clever!

    GW2 - I will, hopefully!
I chose to go with Aguero over Auba at the start. A big part of that decision was the fact that Kun plays at home to HUD in GW2 and looks an obvious captaincy pick.
I need to stop trying to be too clever and leave the armband on Kun!

Then look at GW4 Aguero favourite team Newcastle are at the Etihad, surely the armband for that one!

True, as long as he scores points v HUD he'll be staying!
A blank v HUD though and the temptation will be there to switch to Auba!
