Do we make our own luck? Or are there unforeseen events that can conspire to ruin even the best Fantasy managers’ seasons?

In this week’s Scoutcast, David, Andy and Az join me to discuss the role of fortune in Fantasy football as we look to introduce a ‘luck league’.

This is one of a number of new and revamped features we trialled following the international break.

This saw the return of old favourites, including Rough with the Smooth and clean sheet predictions, as well as a new version of Fantasy Island Risks that focuses purely on low-owned gems.

Our Community section has undergone a late spring clean too, focusing on the week’s key teams, players and talking point to allow us to have more in-depth discussions.

But as with all trials, some things don’t quite go as planned.

The introduction of forfeits for the Scoutcaster with the lowest monthly score and an unexpectedly controversial quiz proved to be more works in progress, which will be put back on the shelf for the time being.

Among all the upheaval we also find time to ponder going without Liverpool’s pricey talisman Mohamed Salah and frisk the fixtures to analyse the teams with the best upcoming run of games.

This Scoutcast was first beamed live via our YouTube channel on Tuesday evening. Be sure to subscribe to get notice of future live episodes.

If you’re a traditional type, you can acquire the mp3 audio version via this link on the first player below, or take in the full visual experience via the second player below.

      Great fixtures.

Looked at it myself but just couldn't justify it.

Man U seem to be playing more attacking (last 2 games anyway) but can't trust spending 11m budget on a PTB Mourinho player

I have 5.0 max to slot alongside Mendy and Alonso.
    Who should I go for?

    A/ TAA 5.0
Better team, better player, free kicks, tough tough fixtures, some rotation risk

    B/ Chilwell 5.0
Good fixtures, good stats, average team who has just kept one CS so far, chance of assist, low chance of scoring

    C/ Holebas 4.8
Great stats, dead balls, in form team and player, YC magnet, tough fixtures

    D/ S Cook 4.6
Good fixtures, good threat, allows me to upgrade Bennett to Doherty in the rest of my team

    1. Lav
      • 9 Years
      7 years, 10 months ago

      I am going with A.

      But I also have Holebas.

    2. Bolivian Seaman

B, don't do D. Doherty may seem attacking but if he gets attacking returns it may be when you least want it to happen. And I don't think he will get much. Leicester though have great fixtures and Cook isn't reliable either

One vote for A, B and C. i knew it would be more confusing ha!

Chilwell has the best combination of fixtures and stats but his personal ceiling of attacking returns feels lower than TAA and Holebas.

Do you see downside in Holebas (worse fixtures coming up and chances to get yellows is high with him)?

        1. Paul Psychic Octopus
          • 15 Years

There's always downside with him, but Watford have been excellent, including defensively, since Silva left.

Not much to decide between him and Chilwell.

Bilva's price drop shouldn't affect your TV.

Difficult to be certain players are about to drop overnight. It's not a precise science. Predictors often show -100.00 target, but then the next day they are back to -99.2 (I think WC transfers don't count?)

    Foster, Fabianski
    Alonso, Mendy, Robertson, SHAW, awb

Stupidly did Salah to Hazard already, so 2.5 itb

Well he's a City mid. They looked better with him though.

Have Wally. If your first 2 subs are Neves and AWB, would you:

    A. Transfer Wally before he drops 0.1m tonight > e.g. Maddison, Pedro etc.

    B. Wally > Richardson, even though he won't play this GW

    C. Roll the FT, and review. Even if Wally falls 0.1 can still do Wally > Rich next week.

Bugger. Played to get Maddison and he's gone up. If Wally drops it's a tough swing.

Wildcards skew the numbers so might not

Delta just gone from -520 to -540 to -635. So either something's odd, or he's unlikely to fall overnight.

    Is this too drastic?
    - Robertson and Salah --> Alonso and Hazard

    Patricio, Boruc
    Mendy, Shaw, AWB, Peltier
    Mane, Pogba, Mikhi, Westwood
    Aguero, Zaha, Mitrovic

Westwood in your 11? As a Villa fan I find this hilarious

    1) Play Fabianski or Foster?
    2) Order of subs out of Neves, W-B, Mitrovic? Could come into play as I have Shaw in my starting XI...

Everton loads of injuries, start Fab
      Mitro for sure

It's exactly my bench and I'm also doubting. Logic says - bench Mitro first, because he's most likely to get a goal in compared to the other palyers. Points from Neves are not very likely, unless he gets a penalty.

Play Neves at home against Burnley. Madness not to

He’s currently my first sub, and RMT agrees with you (he's predicted to outscore Mané...) but I’m not sure who to leave out for him. Cedric is the obvious one but I quite fancy him at home to Brighton. I’ll think about it some more.

    Patricio
    Bellerin Mendy Alonso
    Walcott !Fraser! Silva Hazard
    Tosun Aguero Aubameyang
    (Hen Schneid Bennet AWB)

    1 FT, 0.3 ITB.

Looking at Wally > Lingard or Aub > Kaku if Wally fit. Let a sub come in for Fraser. Any other ideas? Cheers.

Just avoid United, I think Watford will beat them this weekend and especially Lingard has shown nothing this season. Save the Ft and go wild next weekend when Richarli is back and you have more info to build on.

          Spurs beat United

          Watford beats United

We'll see... The odds are with you.

This is why you're a SpongeBob fan. "United will trash Watford". Easy to say... Isn't it?!

We shall see. Bookmark it.. Watford had a good start but have been lucky too.. utd have had a lot of bad luck and poor finishing.. attrition will catch-up on Watford. I would be happy if they won but realistically don't see it happening..

I will never say Watford will win the league but I will say Watford would most likely trash United.Bookmark that!!!

I second that, Watford plays like a team. United is quicksand.

Just watched the full scout cast today.. had only seen half of the live show..I thought the new format is coming together nicely, and over the next few weeks should nail any minor flaws..David is bringing a lot of enthusiasm to the show too.. just need one guest in who can regularly challenge your thinking and Walla..
