Captains

Captain Sensible – Salah the favourite but Man United options overlooked

After Double Gameweek 25 caused a great divide in the Fantasy Premier League world, managers have been reunited on one issue for Gameweek 26.

It already looks as if Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah (£13.6m) will be the obvious captain candidate this weekend, but we need more than a poll result to determine if he’s the best option.

We have analysed all the potential options for the armband so that Fantasy Football Scout members can see the results…

Captain Poll

Despite blanks in both of his last two matches, Salah has returned to the summit of the Fantasy Football Scout captain poll. He heads into Gameweek 26 backed by 54% of the voters, 37% more than any other option. Bournemouth are the next visitors to Anfield, having conceded 20 goals in their last seven away trips.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.2m) is a long way off in second place as owners of Sergio Aguero (£11.4m) consider him as the ideal replacement with Blank Gameweek 27 looming large. 17% of our voters have backed the Arsenal man ahead of a trip to Premier League basement boys Huddersfield Town.

Even further behind the top two are Manchester United pair Marcus Rashford (£7.8m) and Paul Pogba (£8.7m), who will face Fulham at Craven Cottage on Saturday lunch-time. The former looks more popular for Gameweek 26 with a 7% share, while Pogba is just behind on 5.32%.

Interestingly, next up on the list is Aleksandar Mitrovic (£6.5m), who will also play in the same fixture. He has 2% of the vote, the same amount as Salah’s Liverpool colleague Sadio Mané (£9.5m), who has outscored him by 24 points to 19 over the last three Premier League matches.

Aguero leads a list of options under 2%, with 1.6% of voters looking to captain the Manchester City talisman for their big match against Chelsea on Sunday.

He is just ahead of Son Heung-min (£8.8m) on 1.5% and Raúl Jiménez (£6.7m) on 1.13%.

If Wolves don't get knocked out in the next FA cup round it's going to be pretty tough to get a GW31 team with just frees isn't it?

If Palace get knocked out it may be okay if Wolves don't, can get Spurs assets instead of loading up on Arsenal but would be convenient if Wolves do get knocked out as I'll have 3 Arsenal players from next GW

That’s one reason why I’m holding Kun over Auba for another week. I’d rather switch Kun to a player that plays 27&31.

Given Auba’s form I would not be so sure we’re missing out.

Arsenal in general aren’t so great at the moment either. They got walked over by United and City, lost to WHU and weren’t amazing at home to Cardiff.

I had planned to get Auba but everything, except for the fact they have “easy” games on paper, points against getting him.

Let’s see how BOU get on v LFC after their inspiring performance v Chelsea.

He's got 36 points from his last 4 home games, despite them being rubbish v Cardfif and having Chelsea in that run.

My plan was to go back to him from Kun but i'll delay that this week. Not sure i can risk it in 27 and 28 though, and he's a great captain option.

Agreed he can make a good (c) option, especially in BGW27 when Salah has United.

He amassed those Cardiff points out of nowhere.. but I suppose it doesn’t matter how he gets them as long as he keeps delivering.

I’m still considering him (even for this week). I just think a 1 week delay when we have more BGW31 info it should help make some longer term decision.

The other big one is Chelsea.

If both Chelsea and Wolves go out you have Fanderson, Pereira and a Burnley defender as likely transfers that won’t cripple you. Then nearer the time Bournemouth (Fraser, Clyne, Brooks and Wilson) look natural replacements for Wolves given fixture swings.

Tight but not impossible. The problem is likely to be non Liverpool premiums if Chelsea go out - there’s no likely replacement for them. That leaves them sitting on the bench.

Perversely that could work as if it’s a 4 match week the scores will be very low and an 8/9 man team could score nicely. You’re still gambling though that they become available in 33.

The QF draw will be really interesting in this regard.

It may be that I just set my team up for DGW32 (TC), and use the FH in 31, with the hope that enough PL teams get knocked out in QFs to enable a half-decent XI in 33 with a -8 max.

At the moment I really don't like the idea of using transfers to get in players just because they have a fixture in 31. The pool of sides with a game so far isn't strong enough, but by 33 it could be.

With my rank dropping to levels where I'm not going to be able to recover (500k), I'm thinking about just going with differential captains from now until end of the season.

If not captaining Salah, which of these would you captain this GW?

        - Lacazette
        - Firmino
        - Rashford

I'm in a similar position to you in that last gameweek killed my season, so I'm captaining Son whenever it's practical now as he's the only player who's never let me down all the time I've had him.

        7. MTPockets
            5 years, 2 months ago

I'm at similar rank and still going for who I think is best option, there will come a time when there is a chance for differential captain, just hoping to nail the chips. But Rashford or Son for me if you wan't to do this.

I’d have thought the opposite. At 500k you can just play the template and standard captains and get a green every week.

A hit will be the perfect remedy lol. I've tried not to this season but he is worth a -8 lol. You could get a good upgrade that will probably give you immediate resturns:

          Aguero..

          -Loves a big game
-42 goals in his games vs 'big 6'. Twice as many as anyone else
          -In form
          -On penalties
          -Crucial game
-Spearhead of a very good team
-Chelsea lost 4-0 away to Bournemouth last week

Had a really good week with Kun TC and went top of mini league by 30 points. Been happy with differentials lately but should I just get Salah and Pogba in for Sterling and Hazard to block rivals now as they have them? Would be a -4 to get them both this week. Could only get Pogba in for free this week. Had always planned to do the Auba > Aguero > Auba switch but not not so sure now.

              GW35 looks likely
But could well be GW29 as I won't have a weak fixture

Almost pushed the button on Auba in for a hit but the flag has got me questioning the move.
The biggest reason to bring him in is the poor opposition but because of the poor opposition he might start on the bench. And if Arsenal get an early lead there is no point in subbing him on.

Pereyra really is stinking up my team..more smelly than Kamara, Richarlison & Digne. The big question is do I ignore these warts & complete the Aguero/Auba hokey cokey & hoof Sané for Son for a -4?

Anyone concerned that OGS might rest Rashford for PSG? Or will it be a case of coming off at 60-70 if the game is won? In which case, he'll be in the points.

Want to have both Kun and Auba, but sacrifice Rash (-4), but could just do Kun to Auba next week for free, and have a stronger team I guess.

I'll play the safe option again...cue Rash 1/2 pointer and Auba hatty.

            A) Haz, Sane, Kamara > Son, Felipe Anderson, Auba -4
            B) Haz, Sane > Son, Felipe Anderson
            C) Haz/Sane > Son and bank one
            D) Haz, Kamara > Jota, Auba

Morning lads. Move already made early doors this week with Sane > Son.

At some point in my plan I will be removing Digne for a hit. Need some thoughts on these 2 options please.

            A) > TAA this week (I'll soon be removing Firmino > Auba which will only leave me Salah). Home to bmth and gives me that Robertson cover. Man U next week is a bit meh.

            B) Hold this week (based on Watfords defensive stats above). Look to move on for Pereira next week (-4) as he blanks. Arguably Leicester have much nicer fixtures. Leaves me exposed to Liverpool 'cover' and Leicester are a weird team.

Opinions appreciated as always. Cheers lads.

            After a bit of advice.

Here's my team going into GW26, with 1 FT and 0.3 in the bank.

            Fabianski
            Digne, Doherty, Kolasinac, Wan-Bissaka
            Salah, Sterling, Pogba, Sigurdsson
            Aguero, Rashford

            Steele, David Luiz, Brooks, Kamara

The issue is GW27, I have Digne, David Luiz, Sigurdsson, Sterling, Aguero, Kamara and probably Brooks who won't play, which means I'll have to take a couple of -4's to get 11 out.

I've considered Sigurdsson, Sterling > Mane, Son this week for -4, although Sterling's stats and the fact he'll probably start means I'm not 100% convinced on that one.

What do you think? Any other moves I should consider? Not averse to taking out anyone missing 27.

            Thanks in advance.

Luiz/Digne to Kola (more so the former). Or if fit TAA.

              Aguero to Auba
Or Aguero + Kamara to Arnie/Jimmy + Vardy

Then as you suggested, good moves are:
              Siggy to Mané
              Sterling to Son

I like that hit given the circumstances, but can see why you'd be reluctant to sell Sterling.

Who are you thinking of captaining for GW27? As crazy as it sounds, do you think it's worth switching Aguero to Auba since you need to take out some of the blankers anyway?

I've considered it, but would probably make the move next week as I think Aguero will do well against Chelsea. Good point re captaincy, Aubameyang is the obvious candidate, but next week could be an ideal time to gamble - maybe Vardy...

Moves I would look to make would be something like:

              Sterling/Sigurdsson > Son
              Kamara to Jiminez
              Aguero > Auba (Next week)
              Digne to Pereira (Next week)

Should give you 11 starters with Brooks benched until he's back fit.
