Joe is joined by Az and David for the latest episode of the Scoutcast tonight.

You can watch it on our YouTube channel from 8pm BST to 9pm BST.

This instalment will overlap with some EFL Cup action so we will do our best to bring you live updates from those matches if they have Fantasy Premier League implications.

Some of the key topics for dicussion in episode 302 include the luck vs skill debate as well as budget and premium defenders.

Gameweek 6 was characterised by the benching of Raheem Sterling (£12.1m), a popular captain candidate.

The fact that he did not take to the pitch for Manchester City’s 8-0 win over Watford meant that many vice-captains came into play.

Some of those fell to Mohamed Salah (£12.5m), some to Sadio Mané (£11.6m), while others landed on Kevin de Bruyne (£9.9m) who scored a whopping 17 points.

Joe, David and Az will fight it out to decree whether or not those who got the Belgian’s haul doubled-up were reaping the rewards of a good decision or simply lucky.

Make sure you let us know your view!

Also, with Lucas Digne (£6.2m) disappointing his owners once again, we continue our debate from last week about the value of premium defenders moving forward.

Lessons learned from Gameweek 6:

So managed minutes for Sterling in the Cup. Should definitely start vs Everton then given Bernado played 90 mins again.

Right. Aubs and Greenwood out for Firminho and King for a 4 point hit.

    Worth it or not?

        1. Alonso The Great Midfielder
          7 years, 1 month ago

i think it has to be sterling but its my thought only as i see two 12m player is too much when you can have a cheaper one (main issue is gametime)

No Liverpool players at all is madness. Swap out either Aguero or sterling for mane or Salah

Ready 2 rock - correct bench order? Subs important in a Dilva team to cover his no shows:

    Pope
    TAA, Digne, Ota
    Salah, Son(c), KDB, Dilva
    Tammy, Wilson, Pukki
    (Button, Rico, Cantwell, Lundy)

    1. Alonso The Great Midfielder
      7 years, 1 month ago

like the digne pick there as im still think to ditch him lets alone to play him against city but not surprise if he get a attacking point against city

      1. Maximus Bonimus Pointimus
        7 years, 1 month ago

I think Digne is an easy hold personally

I totally disagree with he run of sales

Not the same thing as saying there isn’t a strong possibility of him blanking v city... but with DFK’s & corners he’s playable in literally any game

        1. KDB4PREZ
          7 years, 1 month ago

Thing is tho Everton look shocking atm and most ppl who sell are changing formation and getting in Tammy/son so kinda feels like a clean sale for now and buy back later to me

          1. Pooodle
            7 years, 1 month ago

I agree with this. Digne does have good attacking threat but it would be pretty exceptional if he got 10 assists over the season and if he’s not keeping cleansheets you’re then looking at a return every 3-4 games, which isn’t good enough.

            1. Maximus Bonimus Pointimus
              7 years, 1 month ago

Yeah he has 106 points in 22 games year to date which is more than good enough - people are putting WAY too much emphasis on a couple of bad games imo - much more patience needed (for me anyways) before selling a player with such unbelievable potential & track record

              Form is temporary after all

Sure...but his price is dropping and I can buy him back in a few weeks if I want

                • Fantasy Football Scout Member
                7 years, 1 month ago

Also, isnt that 106 points almost entirely from that remarkable clean sheet run at the end of last season? They don't look even close to the same team. In preseason a lot of people said those clean sheets would dry up without Gueye and I disagreed; but they were right.

                1. Maximus Bonimus Pointimus
                  7 years, 1 month ago

The CS run was over the last 10 games of the season so by the power of mathematics we can deduce that it contributed significantly - and that he's still in 4 PPG this season (I. E. On track for 160-ish,which I think he'll exceed)

Its sometimes important to consider where form ends and class starts - as form is temporary whereas class is permanent - and from an FPL perspective, Digne is class - his role is a huge advantage over almost every other defender in the game bar maybe TAA

Selling him to buy him back after he's hauled just doesn't do it for me 🙂

you need TAA too i think

      1. KDB4PREZ
        7 years, 1 month ago

Yeah not a better option in the game than TAA at that price imo

    2. GreennRed

    1 FT, 0.9m itb

    A. Dunk >> Soyuncu

      1. Amey
        7 years, 1 month ago

        Yes
I agree with you. But the other options are looking attractive too aren't they ??
        😮
        He's playing way wide too.
I'm below 1m OR & thinking about taking the charge by doing something like that. What do you think ??

        1. Pooodle
          7 years, 1 month ago

Problem is that a higher proportion of people above you will already have Aguero for example - Sterling will almost be a differential in himself compared to the higher ranked managers due to a few blanks.

          1. Amey
            7 years, 1 month ago

            Great point.
            Haven't thought about it.

    3. De Gea is GOAT

B but not sure how i feel about selling Raz. I feel like he'll haul this weekend

      1. Amey
        7 years, 1 month ago

        Yes
        B is Maverick
        A is safest
C is the safe move with Kun coming in for Raz.

Which one do you like most ??
If B, Bobby or Vardy ??

        1. De Gea is GOAT
          7 years, 1 month ago

Very tough call. Never been a massive fan of Bobby (FPL wise) but his best season so far so I think him over Vardy for now. Can always switch if it falls through.

WC-ing this week. Anything I'm missing here (what should I be looking for as a potential red flag?)

    Pope (4.0)
    TAA Otamendi Soyuncu (Lundstram 4.0)
    Sterling KdB Son Mount (Cantwell)
    Firmino Tammy Pukki

    4. Pooodle

    GTG?

    Pope (Button)
    Soy - Tomori - Aurier - (Lund - Rico)
    KDB - Son - Salah - McNeil - (Cantwell)
    Aguero(c) - Pukki - Tammy

    0.3itb, on WC.

        *Mount

        1. KDB4PREZ
          7 years, 1 month ago

Yeah I own mount instead I’d look to do that move buddy. Aurier may be a risk but old Lundy as backup can’t be to bad 🙂

        2. bennyp
          7 years, 1 month ago

Could mean Aurier rested for the weekend though?

I can do Salah + McNeil > Mount + Mane. 0.7itb after that.

          1. Pooodle
            7 years, 1 month ago

I would do Aurier to 4.5m defender and then McNeil to Mount.

    Pope (Button)
    TAA, Otamendi, Soyuncu (Lundstram, Rico)
Salah, De Bruyne, XXX, Mount (Cantwell)
    Aubameyang, Abraham, Pukki

    1. Pooodle

Maybe David Silva - does that allow you to get a 4.5m defender over Rico too?

I went back and forth between the two for some time. Dilva seems more consistent to me, so that's what I went with; and spent the extra money on Fabianski instead of Pope.

Aside from that your team is pretty similar to mine. I have Sterling/Guendozi instead of KDB/Mount; and Tomori instead of Soy.

Which combo do you think will score more points in next 5-10 GW?

    a) Kun + Mount + Grenwood

    b) KdB + Tammy + Pukki

Depends who comes in when Greenwood doesn't get minutes.

Thats what I am currently at but Kun is major differential in my league so that bugs me

    Adrian
    TAA Otamendi Rico
    Salah Pepe DSilva Cantwell
    Aguero Haller Barnes

    Button Digne Lundstram Guendouzi

Digne & Barnes to Hanley & Tammy! Will use the extra cash for DSilva to KDB for free next week!

So many things I’m thinking of doing with this lot. 2 FT, 0.7 ITB

    Pope
    TAA VVD Digne
    Salah Sterling Mount Cantwell KdB
    Barnes Pukki

    Button Lunds Hanley Greenwood

    1) Sterling and Greenwood for Son (C?) and Tammy
    2) Same as above but Salah out
    3) VVD to Rico, Greenwood to Tammy

Basically I want Son and a third striker but fear getting rid of Sterling now. Pool have tough fixtures so tending to 2)

Greenwood might actually play this GW. Just saying.

even if he does...no one on that team currently looks like they would play him a decent ball to finish off.
