Joe and Az are joined by Seb to discuss the key issues for Fantasy Premier League managers ahead of Gameweek 15 and a busy Christmas schedule in the top flight.

The Scoutcast’s planning for Blank and Double Gameweeks in the New Year stepped up a gear this week with the announcement that next year’s League Cup final is set to move. This gives further insight into further blanks and Gameweeks are expected in 2021.

Our trio dissect the latest news and what it means for their early plans for Gameweek 18’s limited set of matches and Gameweek 19’s double ups.

In the meantime there is the small matter of Gameweeks 15 to 17 over Christmas to contend with. Joe, Seb and Az reveal the teams they are targeting and players in their plans.

Defenders are firmly on their shopping lists, with an injury to well-owned Chelsea left back Ben Chillwell (£6.1m) coinciding with an upturn in form and fixtures for Liverpool’s Andy Robertson (£7.3m) and Trent Alexander Arnold (£7.2m).

Leeds players are also of interest. Attacking intent is certainly not a problem for Marcelo Bielsa’s troops although FPL managers looking for clean sheets may be advised to turn elsewhere. Joe and Az use this part of the show to quiz Seb, who is a fan of the Yorkshire side, about the best assets to bring in.

Elsewhere, Seb takes his turn to pick a differential. After Sam’s audacious selection of Liverpool’s free-scoring false-nine Roberto Firmino (£9.3m) last week, the pressure is on for our latest guest.

Meanwhile, there are ‘rough with the smooths’ to air and Gameweek 15 transfer and captaincy plans to reveal.

Joe signs off with a message to all those listeners and viewers who are facing a particularly tough Christmas in this most difficult of years.

The Scoutcast will return next week to look ahead to Gameweek 16 in more detail.

Is Chilwell -> Dias a no brainier?

Or is Dias due a rest?

Tough one after Dias played full 90 in the cup and not had a rest in the last 3-4 games. He is not as secure to start GW15 imo

Dias has been due a rest for a while now but has not got it, maybe he is a really fit footballer and as important to the team as Kdb? It helps that he is a CB so not much running around to do like the forwards. VVD also played a whole season without a rest before

I'm worried that Cancelo and Dias are both due a rest soon. WBA at home seems a prime time to rest them

I really wish Pep would have rested them both yesterday

So do you think Pep can play Ake + Stones vs WBA?

Sorry I meant Newcastle not WBA...

But, yes, I think it's a definite possibility. Or maybe just one will drop to the bench for a rest

            Yes ofc NEW... silly me.
I have a feeling that he will drop one of them. Could be Dias but he is the safest bet in that defence I think. Pep really rates him.

Yep Dias is the safest bet.

But Cancelo has started 9 of the last 10 I think

I think he’s prob due a rest but it still could be worth taking that on the chin for 1 GW as he’s the best way into their defence imo and for the fixtures...

It is not a no-brainer because your decisions should be based now on your 18/19 strategy.

Why are people not considering Lindelof? 4.8m, decent fixtures until the doubles. Nice DGW for MUN who have ful as one of their games. There's also the possibility that United have a DGW in 17 which makes him even more appealing.

Seems most are going for Taylor instead when Lindelof could actually be better for just 0.3m more.

3 clean sheets in 14 games, one of those was home to WBA

I also don’t think their fixtures are appealing at all from a defensive point of view. But each to their own of course

"There's also the possibility that United have a DGW in 17..."

Where did you get that from, Guru Crellin?

First, it would have to be Wednesday 6th, that's exactly 2 weeks away. If they were going to schedule a game then they'd already have done it. Second, it might suit United but it sure as hell wouldn't suit Burnley, who would surely cry foul seeing that United would have 2 extra days to prepare.

That game will almost certainly be played later in the season.

      1. FPL Theorist
        • 6 Years
        5 years, 3 months ago

They haven't scheduled it yet because it is the same time as the League Cup semifinals. If United advance today, then they can't have it then, but if they are eliminated, then they can.

I did get it from Crellin.

Basically, if United lose tonight in the league cup, there is a good chance that the Burnley game will be moved to GW17. They have to lose in order for it to be possible, but there is a chance that United will run out of midweeks so it is actually in their best interest to rearrange the Burnley game asap in 17 or 18.

        1. Silecro
          • 8 Years

That is exactly why i'm entering next week with a rolled transfer, just to maybe have a chance for hearing additional info regarding Manu vs Bur game and act accordingly with 2FT in hand, because if that game really does play out in GW18, it effectively renders my FH18 plan useless (key word here ofc being "my FH18 plan")

Any other people who are gonna keep Chilwell until the double, or is this a clear example of overthinking? I’m preparing a BB in GW19.

Have good cover for next 3 (Robbo, Dallas, Coufal and Taylor) and will FH in GW18.

nah i needed his funds, also have a double City defense Lamptey and Lewis so there is too much rotation/injury risk for me to keep, but i probably would have kept in your position

Yes I think I am. I have rubbish like Lamptey & Mitchell to deal with, so would rather not spend a FT taking out a good DGW player.

I think you are in a better position than most due to other 4 nailed defenders!
For many it will be better to transfer him out, as they might be left with essentially 3 defenders and no room for error (rest, benching).

    4. karsworde
      • 7 Years
      5 years, 3 months ago

Could keep him on the bench considering you've got good over. I'd only take him out if you need his funds elsewhere.

    5. FPL Theorist

I agree with you, it will be a huge advantage in the DGW to already own him. Others will be scrambling and taking hits to get him back.

Part of the reason I finally decided to sell was that I wasn’t confident he’d play both games in the double - could easily see Emerson playing one of them if he does ok in the next few

      5 years, 3 months ago

I put in Wood but I also put in Antonio last week so \_O_/

What I will say is I think he can be a streaky player at times, he has Barnes up top with him which helps his threat, and Burnley are looking much more solid all over the pitch at the minute. He's bound to get chances against Leeds and Sheffield Utd, and while Adams has returned pretty regularly he's only gotten more than 7pts 3 times (with 2 being 8). Not that I expect double digit hauls from Wood but it being Burnley there's definitely a chance with him of him scoring in a 1-0 and taking all 3bps here and there

Not worth building for BB with only 6 DGWers now, as it would reqiure -8, right?

    Martinez, Steer
    Zouma Taylor Lamptey Balbuena Mitchell
    Salah Bruno KDB Son Grealish
    DCL Bamford Brewster

    1. thegaffer82

With that team, no, I don't think it'll be worth the potential gains from having a few extra DGWers.

But, if you want to attack that week and build towards getting as many DGWers as you can - you could consider adding more DGWers with FT's until you're happy - then play TC on Salah in that week

    3. karsworde
      • 7 Years

What does the rest of your team looks like? I'm not so sure whether I'd want to transfer out Grealish - not many who deliver the way he does in his price bracket

Raphina and Liverpool defenders both look good though

    4. Nate(U)dog(ie)
      • 5 Years
      5 years, 3 months ago

Seen a lot go for Raphinha here but I'm not too convinced he's a great FPL option, I had him for 3 weeks where Leeds scored 7 goals and he wasn't involved in one. Being on corners helps for sure but his threat directly on goal in the last few weeks himself hasn't seemed to be the same as it was in his first few games

I can get the following team (9 players) for free in gw18. Based on that

    Martinez -- Forster
Dier Lamptey Coufal -- James Taylor
Son Kdb Zaha Burke -- Bruno
    Dcl Kane -- Bamford

    A: FH19, WC25, BB26 and write off bgw29 with like 4/5 players

B: Navigate gw19 with the existing 6dgw players have + convert Kane/Zaha > Salah/Adams to have 8 doublers and 3 sgw players in martinez/kdb/son. This would allow me to BB26 and FH29 unlike A where i only get 4/5 players in gw29.

I sold Kane this week and I have Son. Will be WCing in GW16 and have only Son. And Vardy instead of Kane because I'm FHing in GW18. And Vardy had equally good fixtures with DGW in 19. No brainer for me.

Many who are wedded to playing BB in 19 will pretty much have to remove some City & Spurs assets.

But, this is another reason why I chose to use FH19 instead. Spurs & City both have lovely fixtures before and after DGW so can provide stability for those who will use FH19 instead.

    D) Bellerin + Mahrez > Robbo/Cancelo + Neto ^

    * Money for Bamford/Martial > Aguero
¬ Money for Martial > Aguero
^ Money for Brewster > Aguero

I quite like D as I can keep Bamford and Martial for after the DGW if they are good options at the point. Would also like Son though...

Only the City assets have a fixture in GW18, and I'm not keen on Stones. Dias is too expensive to fit in any other transfers I'm hoping to make, and doesn't excite me either. That's why I've gone for Cancelo in my options, despite rotation risk. I can look to make another change later if necessary, but Lewis coming back into the starting lineup and Lamptey back would basically solve my immediate problems.

What's your chip strategy? Build for a BGW18 team and FH in 19?

If so, yes, I'd only consider bringing those who play in 18.

If that's the strategy, then you've got Bruno/Martial to take care of since they don't feature that GW.

Nothing wrong with asking for people's rationale or questioning it, or asking for more considered transfer suggestions, especially when some responses seem disingenuous or generalised and simplistic. I'll admit that Liverpool01 wound me up a bit, but that seemed to be his intention so he got what he wanted; no need for your backup. Also, Saka got 13 points that GW so it's a good job I didn't take another hit to remove him as well as my entire defence (for which players, I don't know).

How many DGW players can you have if you just make use of FT's?

I'm thinking, you could save your WC for later, use the FH in 18 and BB/TC in 19.

BB definitely a better to chip to play in 19, if you've got 12 or 13 DGW players.

Using the BB will leave you with a lot of money on the bench, which puts me off because you wouldn't have a WC to bring in your strongest 11 in for the rest of the season

Finally had time to digest the fixtures! Turns out I have 6 BGW players and 8 DGW players. Looks like my wildcard will go to waste as I can't move. The only players I can sell for BGW I need for the double. Think I'm going to FH for the BGW triple City/Spurs then TC in the double.

If you have WC, you may as well go with the strategy you proposed. Although, I would very much consider using BB to really maximise the DGW.

With a WC you can do real surgery and bring in a cheap - but nailed bench. You'll have to do some transfers to sort out the bench after DGW, but hopefully you'll make a killing in DGW19 to make it worthwhile

My only prob is my bench for DGW19 will be Bissouma Konsa and Lewis with 0.6m to spend. I will start KdB, Kane and DCL so will have 8 DGWers. May sell KdB for Mane to get to 9. I need all those three cheapies though to get 6 out in BGW18!

Only the people with B) will be able to tackle BB19 without taking too many hits, removing players with excellent fixtures and shafting themselves making crappy transfers like Steer > Johnstone (-4).

Although, I have seen a few players who already so happen to be loaded up on DGWers

I have plenty of decent BGW18 players - so it's a really easy choice for me.

Build for BGW18 - maybe use two transfers - and then FH19.

This way I'll still have WC, BB & TC for later in the season too which is nice

I have thought about BB but I would need hits (and what is the gain then if it cost -8 to get maybe 20-25 points?)
Could as well use in whenever and get around 16 points.
2nd WC is too valuable later since Im not in that bad shape to field 10 or 11 DGW players (have 8 atm).
If you still have 1st WC than sure, easy BB in 19.
