Joe and Az are joined by Seb to discuss the key issues for Fantasy Premier League managers ahead of Gameweek 15 and a busy Christmas schedule in the top flight.

The Scoutcast’s planning for Blank and Double Gameweeks in the New Year stepped up a gear this week with the announcement that next year’s League Cup final is set to move. This gives further insight into further blanks and Gameweeks are expected in 2021.

Our trio dissect the latest news and what it means for their early plans for Gameweek 18’s limited set of matches and Gameweek 19’s double ups.

In the meantime there is the small matter of Gameweeks 15 to 17 over Christmas to contend with. Joe, Seb and Az reveal the teams they are targeting and players in their plans.

Defenders are firmly on their shopping lists, with an injury to well-owned Chelsea left back Ben Chillwell (£6.1m) coinciding with an upturn in form and fixtures for Liverpool’s Andy Robertson (£7.3m) and Trent Alexander Arnold (£7.2m).

Leeds players are also of interest. Attacking intent is certainly not a problem for Marcelo Bielsa’s troops although FPL managers looking for clean sheets may be advised to turn elsewhere. Joe and Az use this part of the show to quiz Seb, who is a fan of the Yorkshire side, about the best assets to bring in.

Elsewhere, Seb takes his turn to pick a differential. After Sam’s audacious selection of Liverpool’s free-scoring false-nine Roberto Firmino (£9.3m) last week, the pressure is on for our latest guest.

Meanwhile, there are ‘rough with the smooths’ to air and Gameweek 15 transfer and captaincy plans to reveal.

Joe signs off with a message to all those listeners and viewers who are facing a particularly tough Christmas in this most difficult of years.

The Scoutcast will return next week to look ahead to Gameweek 16 in more detail.

Which combo looks best for my eventual DGW19 BB team?

    A) Dias, Taylor, Soucek
    B) Zouma, Lowton, Soucek
    C) Stones, Dallas, Soucek + 0.6
    D) Dias, Dallas, Lookman (+ Johnstone over McCarthy)

    Martinez, McCarthy
    Robbo, Coufal, XXXX, KWP, XXXX
    Salah, Bruno, Son, Raphinha, XXXX
    Kane, Bamford, Adams

The first player in each option would come in this week for Chilwell

    Cheers

    Martinez
    Dier, Coufal, Dias, Dallas
    Grealish, Salah(C), Kdb, Bruno
    Bamford, Dcl

    1 FT ITB

    Button, Kwp, Watkins, Bissouma

    GW16 Grealish, Watkins> Son, Brewster

    Martinez
    Dier, Dias
    Kdb, Son, Bissouma,
    Dcl, Brewster

Will have 8 players is that enough for Blank GW 18?

Thinking of using FH in GW 19 instead.

    Chilwell injury is annoying.

    Options:

    A) sell for Zouma this week

    B) do Grealish and Chilwell to Raphinha and Robertson next week (grealish has bad fixtures and no DGW)

    C) sell for Matip this week

Going for a 8-9 players for BGW18 and then will free hit for DGW19. Keeping my wildcard and a BB for the next double gameweek 26 (Ish)

    Is this a good idea??

I'm considering the same right now. Not sure if it's a "good plan" exactly but I can just see FH on 18 going wrong for me and I think with that that there's more to be gained from using it during the dgw

I just think GW19 is perfect to BB as you can fill your bench with Leeds and West Ham players who are:

      Cheap
      Play for decent teams
      Have great fixtures

Many, including myself are doing exactly the same.

I think it's the 'safe' play myself. You are keeping your team - which I assume you are fairly happy with - largely intact. You are playing the great City & Spurs fixtures in the lead up to BGW - DGW. And, crucially, you will only have to use 1 chip too - leaving WC, TC & BB for later.

Is it really the safe option when we don’t know what the other BGW and DGWs are going to be yet?

Also I don’t fancy playing catch-up for the rest of the season, can lead to rash decisions.

Feel like I need to keep pace with the top 10k.

Your first sentence doesn't make sense to me.

Yes, we don't know. So safer to save more chips surely?

Another thing is, with 9BGW players - will I be playing catch up though?

This isn't the right mentality. You should just make the best decisions you can to get the most points you possibly can after 38 weeks.

Suit yourselves but I’m pretty sure I’ll be in the top 10k by GW20.

Would much rather that than playing catch-up having no idea what BGW and DGWs there are to come.

          Erm, okay.

No need to be an arse. More than one way to skin a cat. I won't be at a disadvantage during DGW at all cos I'll have cherry picked the best XI. And, the same goes for BGW as I'll have Kane, Son, KDB, Spurs DFer & City DFer + Lamptey, Neto & BREWSTER 🙂

Maybe lose a few points to FHers, but not much. Then hopefully the extra chip will be handy for the big DGW coming later (Ben Crellin said there's a good chance of a lot of teams involved)

Hmm did you see my analysis of organic 18 > FH19 vs FH18, BB19?

Basically, if say you field 8 players in 18, and then FH in 19, you'd have a total of 30 fixtures.

If you FH18 and BB19 (with 12 DGWs) you would get 38 fixtures.

8 extra games. That is a lot to gain. I think that would greatly outweigh the benefit of keeping the BB for DGW26. There is another factor. If you wildcard before a DGW and then BB for a big one, you're then stuck with your suboptimal structure for the rest of the season.

You might have 2 playing keepers, a bench headache from your attackers etc. Whereas if you do it the other way, your WC can be used to streamline - 3.8m def, 4.0m keeper etc

            1. thegaffer82

Way too simple an analysis that Camzy.

              In a nutshell -

2 x Sam Jonstone is two fixtures - but how many points?

I actually don't mind Johnstone. wol whu is perfectly good especially with Big Sam coming in. If you're filling your team with Lookmans and Karlan Grants then sure, but we're not scraping the bottom of the barrel. That's another big appeal of a BB in 19, there are GOOD doubles for cheap players. I'm looking at:

                Martinez Johnstone
                Zouma James Coufal Balbuena Dallas
                Salah Fernandes Son Grealish Bowen
                Vardy Bamford Adams

I don't think there's any FH team I could build that I would like more than this lot.

Imagine in DGW26 there are 3 extra games. In order to get full BB value, you're gonna have like x3 of each DGW team almost and less choice to target the teams with good fixtures.

Grealish and Martinez against Everton's improved defence and attack
                  Dallas plays for Leeds
                  Bowen is nowhere near reliable

These are the players I'd bench with this team, if not hitting BB

Would a bench of Bowen, Dallas, Grealish and Martinez comfortably outscore a Free Hit team?

Yes I think it will. You're also assuming your free hit guys will all be ace. They won't be. Odds are the BB with the extra fixtures will win.

Bowen has BUR and WBA. I think he's a top pick for the DGW. If not him, I can get Soucek instead or Raphinha.

I'll take my chances with the extra favorable games for Bowen over someone like Rashford or Pulisic.

I think you know what I mean about Bowen being unreliable, so I'll let that stop there

My Free Hit guys won't all be ace. That almost never happens. Nor will the BB guys all be ace either, and you're not getting 15 DGWers when you have Grealish and Martinez facing Everton. Dallas depending on goal threat when Leeds love to concede and face Brighton + Soton isn't the best either. That leaves a Bench Boost for the rare Bowen/Raphinha/Soucek ceiling and hope for more than the floors of Grealish, Mart and Dallas, while also needing your first XI to be ace

I could dissect every BB team you bring and counter it with a Free Hit, especially since the Bench Boost is still useful in DGW26, with TC on Bruno or KDB or Kun or Grealish in minor DGWs involving Burnley, Villa or Newcastle as the second opponent

I mean sure... but it's not like I'm blowing my FH. It's being used to guarantee a strong GW18.

It would take most people multiple hits to get that team. Then in addition, more hits / transfers to get them out again.

And, compared to a FH team, I'm not scared at all. I'll have more big hitters and more cash concentrated into the XI. I won't be making many transfers to prepare myself for DGW-BGW so I can just carry on playing my game and focusing on points from now until the BGW hits..

I see the benefits of both strategies. But my one definitely is less upheaval, gives me more chips going forward and suits my side better.

I mean, yeah, my team is built for a side that looks like that. But I think similar is possible for most people.

BB teams usually outscore FH teams as well. You might be able to get some expensive differentials like Mane, Rashford, but they have to take on a few extra players to prove their worth. The FH in 18 will also beat the organic 18 guaranteed because it will field the full XI.

Okay, but we don't know what those DGWs are. How do we know there are good ones to go for? That's the big appeal of 19 for me.

Having good DGWs for Leeds and West Ham. That is the real value imo.

You can infer the likely DGW26 fixtures by looking at each club's BGW29 fixtures

Just by looking at the up-coming BGW and DGWs, what about:

GW 16: Use first WC and load up with DGW players on GW 19.
    GW 18: Use FH
    GW 19: Use BB

Is this the general idea or have I forgotten anything?

I'll admit Firmino looks good at the moment but he's rarely worth the money in FPL.

It would be a 1 GW punt & he's off

Question is whether the move would beat next week's -4

Can see a Cancelo benching occurring vs Newcastle, it'll be Mendy-Walker at FB IMO.

I think he'll start, established himself as the main leader of the Pep's defense and has started every PL game until now.

Yup. Him starting is a bonus which is why I also own Dias & shipping for a Burnley defender next week

If FPL introduced rolling deadlines between matches or groups of matches within a single GW would you be in favour of that or do you prefer a single deadline and the blank and double gameweeks that come along with it?

nah that's too much like the Sky game, i wish they adopted the Sky bonus point scoring though

How would you WC this lot before GW 16 if you're trying to build for a BB GW19?

    McCarthy Nyland
    Robertson TAA Coufal Justin Mitchell
    Salah KDB Grealish Raphinha Reed
    Kane Watkins Bamford

    0.3 ITB!

    Appreciate your thoughts, gents

City play once vs Palace who Liverpool absolutely demolished.

Spurs away at Sheffield who look like a team to target.

Would you have KDB/Kane/Son in GW 19 if you're using your BB? Also got to consider their fixtures GW 19 onwards..

    Martinez, Forster
    James, Robbo, Lamptey
    Burno , KDB © , Mahrez, Grealish
    Kane , Bamford, Adams
    ( Chilwell , Bissouma ,Dunne)
    Already -4 pts
    A- Mahrez > Soucek
    B- Mahrez > Maddison
    C- Mahrez > Raphinha
    D- Chilwell > Coufal
    E- Chilwell > Dallas
    F- Other option

Considering keeping KDB for DGW19. Fixtures after GW17 are too good and could be a handy differential btw GW 20-22.

Fabianski -Pope, if you were rich

None stands out, so I'd stick with Martinez set-and-forget, then spend transfers elsewhere

If you're feeling rich and fear the fixtures, Lloris or Pope

If you're planning a bench boost, Johnstone as the second GK for me. Fabianski if, again, you're feeling rich
