Our Meet the Manager series is back for the 2021/22 season, as Joe continues his regular catch-up with some of the community’s best and most interesting Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers.

As usual, this video and podcast series focuses on those with an incredible rank history but we are adding to that.

This year we will be including managers with an interesting story to tell about how FPL is impacting on their lives, irrespective of rank.

We’ll also focus on managers who are offering unique insight and research into the game to propel them – and hopefully us – up the rankings.

Our latest video is no exception, with sports psychologist Ross Dowsett joining Joe this week to chat about his latest book which looks at how psychology can help FPL managers.

This chat focuses on how Ross plans to use the psychological theories and ideas he is studying to improve his performance, using examples of why he has gone wrong in the past.

Joe and Ross (@FPL__Raptor) discuss the biases that prevent FPL managers from achieving a stellar finish and how to address them.

They also chat about why the time of day transfers are made is important. The science behind ‘dullard’ and ‘maverick’ managers is also on the agenda.

With the 2021/22 season in mind, Joe takes a look at Ross’s Gameweek 1 side to see how he is already putting psychology into action ahead of the new campaign.

Joe and Ross’s chat is available as a podcast as well as video via Fantasy Football Scout’s Youtube channel.

    Repost soz -wrong thread

Any thoughts on the likely solidity of West Ham defence? Are they likely to be a settled unit? Idea would be to go there while United settle in or another form defence emerges.

Leicester and United poor of course but both at home.

Others in first 5 look good. Newcastle possibly injury hit. Palace. Southampton minus Ings!

Need a Fofana replacement up to 5M, others are TAA Digne Doherty White. Looking at Ayling or Troost Ekong. Any better options?

So Watkins maybe play for left wing / LAM as Ings start as CF...

    Ings
    Watkins Buendia Bailey
    D.Luiz McGinn
    Targett Mings Konsa Cash
    Martinez

Looks like he will have more assists , but reduce his goals.

    Tought?

If I own Watkins I definitely want someone else to be on penalties - whether that's Ings or El Ghazi. But this transfer news makes me want to gamble with Wilson / Iheanacho / Antonio or find a bit more for Bamford / DCL instead

There goes the template out the window.

I think it will, if he goes with one striker he'll have less minutes. If he goes with two I fancy Ings to be on penalties.

Thinking of a swap to Nacho, Wilson too many injuries for my liking

Yeah but Spurs have a new manager, look like they could lose their best player (a LOT of Son’s points involved Kane), or they could even keep him with a dent to morale. Plus they open against Man City.
Man Utd on the other hand are relatively stable and have strengthened the squad in key areas.
I’m not saying you’re wrong as I’d be lying if I said I’d not considered it, but there are way too many things stacked against it, and Bruno’s ownership will kill your rank if you get it wrong (with the opposite in reverse of course).
Also Bruno>Son after a game or 2 is an easy shift, but the opposite is harder. Easy call for me.

The game does need some exciting options....

I was watching Premier League Years for 09/10 and 10/11 - the strikers on offer back then were insane. (Of course, the mids weren't as good so it's all relatve) but still!

          Yes....

Ferran Torres, Raheem Sterling, Kevin De Bruyne and even Mahrez (started one of the friendlies ST) are all competing with Jesus....

It isn't that he couldn't nail down the spot....but just absolutely nothing to suggest it's his right now... and has he played any minutes yet pre-season? (He could have, genuine question...)
