Scouting The Doubles

As if you hadn’t heard already, six top-flight teams will play twice in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Double Gameweek 29, after three postponed fixtures were rescheduled for mid-March.

In this first instalment of a four-part Scouting the Doubles, we’ll be focusing on Arsenal.

Notably, in addition to their ‘double’, the Gunners also have a guaranteed fixture in Gameweek 30, making their assets more appealing for those attempting to negotiate the blank without a Free Hit.

All stats taken from this article are from our Premium Members Area.

THE OUTLOOK

With a double-header in Gameweek 29, an unaffected fixture in Blank Gameweek 30 and a favourable run of matches right through until the end of the season, Arsenal assets are understandably in demand right now.

Added to that, they also have two more as-yet-unannounced Double Gameweeks to fit in somewhere during the run below.

After a disastrous start to the season, the Gunners’ have entered the top four as the season’s close approaches, having beaten Watford 3-2 at Vicarage Road on Sunday.

In fact, they have now won their last four Premier League matches in a row, netting eight goals, with the in-form Bukayo Saka (£6.5m) their top scorer during that period with two.

Now, they take on Leicester City (h) and Liverpool (h) in a tricky looking Gameweek 29 double-header, before a kinder run which sees them face Aston Villa (a), Crystal Palace (a) and Brighton and Hove Albion (h).

Rangnick‘s and Solskjær’s Manchester United has met 8 of the same teams this season.

Solskjær’s Manchester United is 3 points better than Rangnick‘s

I think they look much better coached under Rangnick but most of the players have been woeful.

Seems like Ronaldo broke the flow United and many of the players were in and the relation among them.

The squad was built by Solskjær to play Solskjær football. It's not fit to play Rangnick football.

How many players has Rangnick signed?

Klopp and Pep took several transfer windows to get the squad suited to them.

This. Unless Utd owners actually put their hands in their pockets and spend a bit of money Utd aren’t going to be able to compete with the likes of City and Liverpool.

The sad part is they've spent almost as much money as City over the last decade.

I'm going to respond to this without a data source, but pretty sure we are spending on a par with City and Chelsea and ahead of Clubs like Liverpool. I think our net spend is lower because we've sold reasonably as well.
The issue isn't what we've spent. It's who we've spent it on

          1. Piggs Boson

The decision-making at the top level has been poor. The club is run so so poorly.

People often try and redeem the Glazers by saying how much they've spent, but they have spent £0.00 on the club. In fact, they've taken out over a billion. Even during the pandemic, they took a large bond, I think it was around £100,000, saying it was to "secure their family's legacy". The money comes from the fans and sponsors, and they siphon off a large portion of that. They've spent nothing.

But even so, the money from revenue streams that they've spent should have been enough for United to compete anyway, had the incompetent decision-making not been so dire.

    3. Good to see you posting on here Ole.

Man Utd have good players. But the coaching and tactics are poor. All Man Utd are really missing this season is team ethic (i.e., a 'we're in it together and will do the dirty work for each other' attitude) and a defensive midfielder.

      De Gea
      Dalot Varane Maguire Shaw
      ????? McTominay
      Rashford Fernandes Sancho
      Cavani

      Henderson
      AWB Lindelof Maguire Telles
      Matic Fred
      Diallo VDB Martial
      Elanga

Cavani will need to be replaced in summer (ideally with Kane) and a DM signed.

Greenwood screwed up as he would have been ideal as the forward to replace Cavani IMO.

Which of these is this worth a -8?
    A. Dennis + Bowen + Laporte > Kane + Gordon + Doherty
    B. Dennis + Bowen + Laporte > Lacazatte + Kulu + Robertson

Leaves me with 9 Dgw for gw 29 and 7 players for gw 30.
Current plan is FH 33 and BB 36.

    Ramsdale
    TAA, James, Digne
    Salah, Son, Coutinho, Saka, Raphinha
    Lacazette, Broja

    Foster; Jimenez, Coady, Kilman.

    1 FT 0.6 ITB

Best move here? May yet change my mind depending on what Jimmy does against Watford but I'm not too keen on Son + Jimenez -> Kulusevski + Kane for a hit. Thinking a simple Digne -> Doherty for free looks good. Coutinho -> Kulusevski also works but rather keep Cout than Digne.

        I haven’t

I will have BB and one FH left after this

Will use them in DGW 33 and DHG 36.

This team gives me 9 DGWers + Raphinha (NOR) + James (NEW) in DGW 29. Gives me 10 players in GW 30 without hits. Sets me well up in the long term with 2 remaining chips to play in 33 and 36

Exactly, is good for the bench long-term as someone cheap, playing and more potential to get a return than those in the same price bracket (even Ramsey I think). Gives me the funds to get Son, Kane and Salah so that is why I went for him.

    TAA, Cancelo, Rudiger, Livramento
Salah (C), Son, Foden, Martinelli, Bowen
    Jimenez

    Foster, Dennis, Weghorst, Ait Nori

    1 FT 2.8 ITB

    A) Foden + Jimenez > Gordan + Kane (-4)
    B) Bowen + Jimenez > Saka + Laca (-4)
    C) Foden + Bowen + Jimenez > Gordan + Saka + Kane (-8)
    D) Rudiger > Robbo
    E) Other

Planning to play BB this week. Have 1FT and 2.7 ITB

Thinking Kilman > Robbo for the FT.

Any other suggested moves instead? Worth a hit to bring in another player who doubles?

    Dubravka - Ramsdale
    TAA - James - Rudi - T. Silva - Kilman
    Salah - Fraser - Kulu - Gordon - Raph
    Kane - Adams - Broja

Kilman to Robbo looks good but I wouldn't be confident that all three of the Chelsea defenders start.

Yeah that is a concern. Worth doing T.Silva & Adams > VVD & Laca for a -4? Or James to Robbo if he is likely to be rested?

Getting sucked into this DGW mass psychosis. Planning to BB, this worth a -8?

Havertz, Ramsey, Livra -> Saka, Kulu, Doherty to get

    Ramsdale
    TAA James Cancelo
    Salah Saka Kulu Raph Willock
    Kane Laca

    Dubravka Doherty Broja Coady

It's 4 and 9 games respectively, seems worth it. Guess I answered the question

Afternoon guys. What would you do.......

A, Son & Jimenenz out for Kulu & Kane
    or
B, Jimenez & Ramsey out for Kulu & Lacca talent

I like Lacca talent. First seems sideways

So basically Son and Laca or Kane and Ramsey. I’d go Son and Laca 100%

I know its going against the flow but I like the Son and Lacca talent move more.

Whichever ones your favourite flavour of future predictions thinks. Seriously, its pretty hard to be sure as dependent on results of a couple more rounds of FA Cup, plus outcome of European games and a sprinkling of illogical decisions from the fixture planners to suit the whim of TV companies.

How would this team look for GW30? 1FH left but feel like there are not many players I would want who I can't get.

    Sa
    Coady Doherty Amartey
    Ramsey Raph Odegaard Son
    Kane

9 players doesn't seem too bad and of course banking on Bowen staying quiet and this allows me to move Doherty/Coady to James in 31

    Sanchez (Fabianski)
Van Dijk Gabriel Rudiger Laporte (Kilman)
    Salah Son Bowen Ward-Prowse (Ramsey)
    Watkins Dennis (Broja)

    1FT 1.9m itb

    A Watkins > Lacazette
    B WP > Saka
    C Watkins WP > Lacazette Saka -4
D Watkins WP Laporte > Kane Gordon Doherty -8
E Watkins WP Bowen > Lacazette Saka Kulu -8

GW30 is important in these considerations but will ignore as don't know what you are doing. A, B, C and E should all pay off so depends on your appetite for risk. Only mention 30 as only JWP of those being transferred out blank, so its only a net +1 in your GW30 players. However I would stay well clear of D. Doherty has had two good games but he won't play Leeds and Everton every week. Everton are abysmal.

Anyone else feel Kulu is a trap. Doesn’t have any real goal threat and he’ll be dropped if he plays poorly in a couple games. Spurs won’t be scoring 4/5 every week

im not a fan but when kane/son score he seems to be the one behind it. As long as they are scoring he will be getting assist points

Will be controversial, but I think he is taking away from Son and therefore usurping Son as a FPL pick. Son has been lucky to get returns in the last two GWs, he scored vs Leeds with his only shot on target and he scored vs Everton because Pickford let it through his hands.

You think? I thought Son was extremely unlucky to not have got more last night. Looked the biggest threat by a distance in the 1st half

I don't think he is actually.
He is important in the system balance and make Son & Kane better.
He's posting very good attacking stats too.

He reminds me of Victor Moses under Chelsea's Conte. Never really got any credit but was a tactical main piece of Conte's puzzle
