We’re having another crack at FanTeam‘s latest Weekly Monster, in which Fantasy managers can turn a £1.68 entry fee into a £840 cash windfall.

The Weekly Monster is a Fantasy tournament that effectively gives entrants the chance to build a ‘Free Hit’ squad for the upcoming Gameweek.

While the FPL deadline for Gameweek 29 might have long since gone, you can enter this FanTeam event right up to 14:00 GMT on Sunday.

There is a kitty of £5,880 to play for, with prizes awarded down to 604th place.

Head to the FanTeam lobby and look for the ‘Gameweek 29 €30K EPL Weekly Monster [€3K to 1st place]’ link (seen above) to choose your level of entry.

A brief how-to-play guide is featured beneath our picks.

WEEKLY MONSTER FIXTURES

Scout’s Gameweek 29 picks for FanTeam's Weekly Monster 4

SCOUT PICKS FOR GAMEWEEK 29

The seven selected matches for Weekly Monster do not include Liverpool, Spurs or Manchester United, with Burnley assets away to Brentford also not around. Therefore Ben Foster (6.0m) is included as a cheap goalkeeper, as Watford have only conceded once in the four away games under head coach Roy Hodgson. Visiting Southampton won’t be easy but their hosts have recently lost 4-0 to Aston Villa, showing they’re prone to an off-day.

Having said that, faith is being put in Kyle Walker-Peters (8.7m) after the full-back was deemed “absolutely okay” to play after not being able to start at Villa Park. He caught the eye during Southampton’s 2-0 win over Norwich City in Gameweek 27, when many of the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) community had him in their Free Hit teams. He is joined in defence by Antonio Rudiger (11.2m) and Aymeric Laporte (11.1m), after Reece James was ruled out due to injury and Joao Cancelo is labelled a doubt with illness.

Although Crystal Palace won away to Manchester City in Gameweek 10, Pep Guardiola’s side are feeling relentless right now in their quest to retain their league title. In particular, Kevin De Bruyne (14.1m), whose 18-point haul in the Manchester derby was his third double-digit haul in six matches.

Captaincy will go on Raphinha (11.8m). That may seem an odd choice, considering their downwards spiral towards the relegation zone but the lack of Mohamed Salah, Harry Kane or Son Heung-min means looking at alternative options. Leeds United’s talisman underachieved the most during the first matches of Double Gameweek 28, grabbing an expected goals (xG) tally of 0.96 after missing a huge chance versus Leicester City. That would’ve been his tenth goal of the season, including one against Norwich in the reverse fixture.

Bukayo Saka (12.0m) and Harvey Barnes (6.5m) face off in north London, with both in good form. The former has six goals and three assists from the last ten games, including one of each at Watford, whereas the latter has delivered an attacking return in seven of his last eight outings. The only time he didn’t was an 11-minute cameo at Liverpool.

The 108m budget is why Allan Saint-Maximin (6.3m) made the team but, truth be told, the Magpies have been in such good form that they’ll fancy pulling off an upset at Stamford Bridge. If they do, Saint-Maximin may be pivotal to it, as his pace and trickery frightens defenders throughout the league. The Safety Net also ensures that another Newcastle midfielder steps in if the Frenchman misses out.

Up front, Che Adams (11.1m) has the form and fixture this week, with the additional appeal of bagging the only goal of Southampton’s 1-0 win against Watford in October. On the other hand, Raul Jimenez (8.5m) does not have the form – purely the fixture. He visits struggling Everton, a side he has scored against in each of the five previous occasions he’s faced them. Although his starting place isn’t guaranteed anymore, any game time will bring hopes of a sixth strike.

HOW TO PLAY: A BRIEF GUIDE

Slightly different from the usual squad-based games, FanTeam managers are given a budget of €108m to build a team of 11 players that includes at least one goalkeeper, three defenders, two midfielders and one forward.

A maximum of three players are allowed from one club and captains score double points, as usual.

Here are some other minor differences to the otherwise easy-to-play game:

  • There is no bench or manual substitutes; instead, there is a ‘Safety Net’ feature. If a player in your Fantasy team isn’t in the starting XI for their side, they will automatically be substituted for the next priced player from the same position and club.
  • A ‘Stacking Penalty’ is given if you have two or more defensive players from the same club and they keep a clean sheet. One point is deducted for each additional asset that you select from the same side.

HOW DOES THE SCORING WORK?

FPL managers looking for a way to make their knowledge pay will have no trouble picking up FanTeam‘s Gameweek 29 Weekly Monster, with its familiar scoring system.

Think of it as FPL without the bonus points, with a few other exceptions such as shots on target and winning/losing impact points – detailed in the graphic above.

Thoughts on Luis Diaz? He has been really great so far and Klopp seems to rate him too. If I knew he is nailed for sure he would be one of the first names in my team. But I'm quite optimistic about his minutes. Her has started the last 4 or 5 games after all and played +80 minutes in every game. For 8m he should be a good value.

The problem is that there are three better options from Liverpool.

Think Robbo is a better third pick...but Diaz is an ok punt as well

      1. Sgt Frank Drebin
        • 9 Years
        3 years, 9 months ago

Yeah, that's the problem isn't it. But I think it's mainly about the replacement though. If you can find someone only a slightly worse value than Robertson and Diaz would be much better value than other midifielders then it may be worth it. That's why for example I think Kane may be better option in FPL than Son since Son can be easily replaced by other midfielders and for the forwards there is almost no choice whatsoever. Therefore for example combination of Kane + Diaz + Rudiger may be better value than let's say Son + Robertson + 8m forward. But that's just a theory, you would need to check with an optimization algorithm.

Definitely not nailed but he's been extremely impressive and clearly Klopp feels the same way with him starting ahead of Jota a few times. I'm tempted to make the same punt albeit a bit later on to finish off the season. I'd say go for it, Salah and Mane have some big games against each other coming up for WC qualification, Portugal have a WC playoff as well and Liverpool have CL after that too so I think he'll definitely get time in the league.

Ah I forgot, although they only have I'd say a very outside chance of getting the playoff spot, a Peru win in the first game will mean they're out, while Portugal and Egypt + Senegal are in a playoff so stakes are a higher for them so I'd expect them all to play full minutes

Dont think Diaz starts against Arsenal. We will know Klopps first choice 3 Wednesday night as he will name his strongest 11 for that game.

    Ramsdale
    Doherty Tierney
    Saka Son Ramsey
    Kane Bamford

Feel pretty OK with going with this next week even though it's only 8. A little tempted by moving Elyounoussi to Eriksen with my FT though, doesn't really impact my future transfer plans financially and could see myself playing him a fair bit in future weeks (West Ham GW32, Watford 33, Spurs 34) and has excellent fixtures to finish off the season (Soton, Everton, Leeds). Worth a shot?

      1. Nate(U)dog(ie)
        • 5 Years

I can't afford a Leicester mid immediately unfortunately without a hit, plan is to get one of Barnes or Maddison in GW31, where I'll downgrade Son to someone like Mahrez or Sancho maybe and then move on Ramsey

Didn't actually see just yet but he got an assist, and assisted 3 goals between the 2 friendlies he played before going into the first team. I know Leicester have kept 2 clean sheets but they're still poor for xGC, even Leeds (who were supposedly dreadful against Villa) outplayed them for the majority of their game against them last week but wasted their chances, a lot of those other teams Brentford will face in the run-in tend to concede a lot of chances too

    3. The Mentaculus
      • 4 Years

Not interested in a Leicester mid for the run in? Havent seen Brentford game yet but I do like your maverick style so go for it if thats who you want

      1. Nate(U)dog(ie)
        • 5 Years
        3 years, 9 months ago

I'd like to but will probably have to leave it another week unless I want to take a hit, I'll need a hit in GW31 but it's to likely move in a City mid and James/other CHE def but I have to move Son out this week so I can't really do that this week.

    4. Firmino
      • 10 Years

Too bad you own Bamford already. Raphinha & Toney superior options compared to them.

Yeah I'd like Toney for sure, can't afford to upgrade Broja to him but it'd probably mess up my other plans anyway. Honestly haven't been too impressed by Raphinha for a long while, had him for a fair while from GW1 but he's been in poor form for a few months arguably

Feels like the finish line for this season is just coming into view. These past couple of seasons have been a real slog - even decent overall ranks by my standards haven’t made them enjoyable. Hope the next one is something approaching ‘normal’!

True. I think the covid disruption did my head in more than anything but that’s a factor too. I know a lot of us will naturally come up with similar ideas but the amount of content out there (and identikit teams in ML leagues you see from people who you know don’t follow football that much) leading to big scores can be quite galling

Yes, that can be galling. I try to ignore the noise by not going on Twitter and rarely looking at other manager’s teams (until we get to the business end of the season).

How’s your rank looking atm? Any OR goals for the season end?

Same. I use this site and listen to a couple of podcasts but don’t engage with it on social media as I want to manage my exposure to FPL content!

Had a nightmare start this season, recovered and been treading water between 50k and 30k for about two months now. Currently 35k and would like to finish inside the top 10k. Just trying to shake the feeling that I’ve wasted a lot of chances past few weeks.

            How about you?

I’m currently at 46k, highest I’ve been all season. BB in play this week, one chip left to play (FH)

I normally have a decent run-in, but with so many good managers in the higher echelons this year, I’d be happy with a top 20k finish. Good luck to you mate.

Anyone with good Leicester knowledge know how they are going to set up in the league with Europe obviously now the priority.

Who will be the preferred striker in the league with Vardy out, Daka or Nacho?

Who out of Maddison & Barnes is more likely to start league games?

Which is the best defenders to go for, Thomas, Justin or Pereira?

That's a good plan. I will only think whether to play FH in 33 and WC in 35 or the other way around based on what fixtures we get. Playing WC in 32 would mean BB for 33 and then your're left with too much founds invested in the bench for 5 GWs. Not that optimal imho.

    Ramsdale
    Doherty
    Son / Kulu / Saka / Raphinha

This is all I have for 30 as it stands. Is it worth getting the likes of White or Daka in too?

Can’t get to Coutinho or Kane without hits.

Was determined to avoid the free hit this week. I don’t see where the points are coming from. The fixtures suck.

Will prob move to triple Arsenal/triple Spurs and hope I don’t take too much damage.

I’m thinking of getting a cheapie like White, Daka or Toney in and hope I don’t get too badly damaged.

Can’t bring myself to use free hit, (only 1 left), think it’s a low scoring week on paper.

I think Daka is for FHers only, would only get White if you want him long term also.

More than fine with that plan I think. I definitely wouldn't waste the FH with your current team and a transfer or two. Much better opps to use the FH and make ground.

Free hit, or save them both and go with 8 players below for a -4?

    Ramsdale
    Doherty White
    Son Kulu Saka Raphinha
    Toney

Can do -4 to bring in Toney and any defender too, taking me to 8 players.

Similar to my team, I'm going to do a -4 and hold my FH (I have 2 left) rather have a 1 week punt on someone that waste a FH tbh

No need to FH but that BB chip isn't helping you, you can't exactly make a downgrade somewhere to create funds for use in other positions. Fraser to martenelli is probably your only move

    Sa
    Cash, Cresswell, Gabriel

Still have one FH left and planning to WC31, should I just take a hit and play with what l have?

    White Sanchez
    Son Raph Kulu
    Laca Watkins

Considering Salah > Coutinho and either Gilmour > Barnes or King > Jimenez for a hit to get to 9? Will be WCing 31 anyway

Take the hits, they look good and save the FH. I was always planning FH in 30 but I’m now 90% saving it .. I don’t think there is a significant upside with the FH this week.
