We have chosen our best Fantasy Premier League (FPL) players for Gameweek 30 ahead of tonight’s deadline.

We line up in a 3-4-3 formation and are limited to £83.5m for our first XI.

Our four substitutes, meanwhile, are always picked from the budget/cheaper crop of players, not to serve as bench fodder but to give some alternative options who don’t cost as much as some of the names in our line-up.

GOALKEEPER AND DEFENDERS

The best FPL goalkeepers and defenders for a Gameweek 30 Free Hit

Clean sheets look difficult to predict in Gameweek 30 but on paper, Wolverhampton Wanderers perhaps just about look the favourites to shut out the opposition: across the season, only Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool have allowed fewer goals. Jose Sa’s (£5.3m) heroics between the posts have been a huge factor in their defensive returns: Opta’s ‘expected goals prevented’ (xGP) metric suggests he has personally prevented 8.6 goals from flying in – that’s more than double what any other goalkeeper has managed. A total of 97 stops has also led to 24 save points this season and he’s one of just three top-flight custodians to hit double figures for bonus points.

In defence, the paucity of outstanding candidates for a shut-out leads us to nominate some attacking full-backs/wing-backs. This is even more of a consideration with such a small pool of players and teams to choose from this week, as there is inevitably going to be a conflict of interest when backing a defender from one side and an midfielder/forward from their opposition.

There aren’t many/any Gameweek 30 defenders who are more front-foot than Sergio Reguilon (£5.2m) and Matt Doherty (£4.8m). Reguilon narrowly gets the nod here as he’s actually outperformed his Irish teammate for penalty box touches, shots, big chances and key passes in his last six outings, with two clear openings against Brighton on Wednesday underscoring his goal threat. West Ham, who had to endure 120 minutes of Europa League action on Thursday, are also behind only Norwich City more most chances conceded from their right flank in the last six matches.

Aston Villa haven’t kept a clean sheet against a club currently in the top nine under Steven Gerrard (and have only one all season against these leading teams), so the chances are that the Villans will concede in Gameweek 30. Nevertheless, Matthew Cash (£5.2m) carries plenty of points potential at the other end of the field: he is second among Fantasy defenders for penalty box touches in 2021/22 and has delivered four attacking returns in as many matches. No full-back has had more shots in the box this season, either.

Rounding off the picks at the back is a bit of a leftfield choice but one influenced by Leicester City’s teamsheet on Thursday night. Ricardo Pereira‘s (£5.2m) minutes are being handled carefully by Brendan Rodgers since his return from injury and a virtual breather in the defeat to Rennes bodes well for a start against Brentford on Sunday. Of the defenders who are likely to start in Gameweek 30, he is behind only Reguilon and Doherty for minutes per xGI and minutes per attacking return this season.

    Trent "Injury" then.

They got an FA cup match v Forest where he likely wouldn't have started and then an international break. I reckon he may have got a tweak but not serious and it's a way to protect Trent playing in these friendly games and keeping him fresh for the end of season especially with Liverpool being so close to city now.

Just my opinion but makes it a difficult decision to sell Trent still as there is no way of telling whether it's legit

his performance v arsenal may have given some red flags to klopp and team. He was given the run around by martinelli in the first half so thinking a rest may have been planned. Resting v forest then 2 international games before a packed liverpool schedule doesn't sound optimal

Yeah, that's my thinking too. Worst case he misses WAT which would be a shame, but not worth losing the value on him IMO

I'm thinking the same. I'm rolling my FT this week anyway and likely to take a hit next week and I was slightly pondering TAA to Robbo so I'll be open to it but I'm doubting he'll miss Watford

I think it's legit, an hamstring injury is not the same as a "knock". The question is how serious is it really? I agree it might be something closer to being light but let's wait and see for further developments.

How many would you have without FH? The ceiling this week is seemingly low, so if you've got 5 or 6 from ARS and TOT, plus a couple of others, I think FH is a waste. Much better used for a double or GW38 where the ceiling is much higher

If Raphinha rumours are true, which is best option long term:

    A) Raphinha to Maddison
    B) Raphinha to Barnes and 0.2 ITB for upgrades elsewhere
    C) Just keep Raphinha and have 10 players this week if he does not play

I don't understand why you'd go for a Spurs def when you can have all of Kulu, Son and Kane without any budget issues. I suppose it means one of Barnes or Coutinho is likely stuck on your bench but so be it.

I'm going for Laca over Jimenez. Can't see either getting more than one goal.

      Think it's a valid complaint.
And let's not forget that Klopp, OGS etc. have made the same complaints recently.

The TV companies rule the fixture planning and it's just not always with the clubs - and certainly not the players! - in mind.

People claiming "Arsenal only have themselves to blame for exploiting the system to get the NLD cancelled", that's what utterly bizarre.

    4. Puncheon Guly
      • 14 Years

What's he complaining about? They've not had Europe this season and they chose to get matches (NLD for example) called off when they only had 1 covid case. Everyone has to play 38 games between the start and the end of the season, so everyone will have busy periods and not so busy periods. They're fools and it does my head in

    5. Qaiss
      • 9 Years

I'm an Arsenal fan but I agree, he shouldn't be using that as an excuse when we haven't played in Europe this season. I don't like how he needs everything to be perfect for us to be successful.

Arsenal/Arteta have been great this season but how will he cope next season with CL/Europa if he thinks these two fixtures in close proximity, is too much

        1. Dion D's Solo Shower
          • 7 Years
          3 years, 8 months ago

The squad has been minimized this season, in part due to lack of European commitments.
Next season, if they manage to secure CL, the squad will be bigger and more able to cope with the needed rotation.

      2. Dion D's Solo Shower
        • 7 Years

It's not the number of games he's complaining about, it's the short turnaround between games on 2 occasions he's upset about.

12.6 available for MID and FWD. I already have triple Arsenal, Spurs, Kilman and Raphinha.

    Willock ➡ Eriksen/Mbeumo/Lanzini/Soucek/Podence/Neves
    Adams & Willock ➡ Toney & Benrahma/Fornals (6.0 midfielder)

Leicester weren't convincing last night and if I pick Maddison/Barnes, I have no real options up front. Unless Hwang is declared fit, but even then he's not guaranteed to start at all. I could go for Ramsey & Ings/Watkins but I don't think Aston Villa will beat us and of course I'm hoping for Arsenal clean sheet. Toney and Eriksen is probably too much Brentford.

What to do in this uninspiring situation? Perhaps even save a free transfer and stick with 8? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

What to do for GW30? Currently only have 6 players: Kane, Son, Martinelli, Saka, Amartey, Doherty

    a) Save transfer and go with 6 players

    b) Use final FH this week

    c) Salah and King ----> Barnes and Lacazette -4 (gives me 8 players)

    d) James and King ----> Jimenez and White -4 (gives me 8 players)

    e) King ----> someone?

So with TAA having a hamstring, no way he makes Watford and the it’s Man City.

Maybe pushing a transfer down the line and I’ve got 0.4 tied up on him but transfer to Cash or Leicester defender to get 10 plus hwang this week is very tempting

I personally think its a way to get Trent out of the england games. He prob has a minor injury. He might miss Watford but I wouldnt risk a transfer out, gambling on it

Out for several weeks though. That’s at least 2-3 weeks in my book and surely you don’t risk him v Watford with City and champions league up next.

Plus it gets me an extra player this week and finds to upgrade Raphina if he really is out
