You are deluding yourself Rupert if you think news and opinion are separate. Try watching the same story coverage on BBC, ITV, RTE and C4. There are clear political inferences made on each channel and commentators brought in to advocate for particular point of views.

I may indeed be deluded, possibly just ignorant. But I’d like to always think that news is just facts. But as I’ve said, I’m not particularly involved in anything like this. I probably just look at things so neutrally that I can’t identify the differences between channels if I did watch the news, which I don’t.

Good. BBC employees are meant to be impartial and not get involved in political rants on social media.

It's that Lineker is a sanctimonious, hypocritical, tax-dodging champagne socialist who has been rinsing the licence tax payer for years that I object to though.

"BBC employees are meant to be impartial and not get involved in political rants on social media."

        Tell that to Alan Sugar.

Impartiality is only an issue when it affects the jackboot philosophy of the Tory government.

Why is Alan Sugar allowed to attack Labour, Corbyn and the unions on twitter then? He’s even been racist.

He works for the BBC, never apologised or been suspended.

Let’s not forget the BBC boss arranging £800k loans for Boris and donating to the party.

        Your argument doesn’t stand up.

I didn't comment on Alan Sugar (or even follow him to know what he's said). The issue raised was about Lineker/MOTD.

The BBC's Charter covering impartiality should apply to everyone that works for or represents them.

But if I was paid £1.3m a year by the Beeb for making inane comments with Wright and Shearer, I would stay off social media altogether. So much downside, not much upside.

It didn’t apply to Sugar at the time. So it shouldn’t apply to Lineker.

Check it on Twitter and you’ll see the corruption and hypocrisy

Sugar on Twitter 2017: "If you admire or trust me.A east end boy done good by honest graft. For the good of the UK I sincerely advise NOT to vote for Corbyn"

I would say he's more anti-labour/socialist than fervant Tory but that still makes him far more palatable to the current British establishment.

Gary, on the other hand, is seen a soft liberal force which they can push around. That perception is rapidly, and dramatically, being challenged now. Fair play to all those in the BBC and beyond who do not support the jackboot policies of the Tories.

He works on a freelance basis and said something controversial on Twitter. The BBC has employed lots of people who have said controversial stuff on Twitter. The director general of the BBC has donated lots of money to the Conservatives and has helped Boris Johnson out financially, which doesn't seem very impartial to me. The Tories' policies on asylum seekers are inhumane and won't work.

Do your research before you allow your dislike for an individual to cloud your understanding of the situation. The impartiality only applies to those working for BBC news services, it’s a lot more wish-washy and unclear for others hence the Alan Sugar comments etc. Comments about the Qatar human rights breaches were allowed by BBC employees so why not other subjects as well? Whether you agree with GL or not, the disturbing fact that members of the Tory party have pressurised the BBC to remove an individual they regard as n opponent demonstrates a complete lack of impartiality. The worry now is that this escalates into something that could even go so far as affecting games with players threatening to make a moral stand.

The BBC is not a 'Tory' organisation (quite the opposite in fact). People are simply stating that it is meant to be neutral and that the BBC has guidelines on social media use. Of course this needs to be applied to all people working for it.

I think Lineker is stupid. If he wants to rant about political issues instead of football, then pursue a political career where that is allowed or encouraged.

From a licence fee payer standpoint, I think it is outrageous he is paid so much by the BBC (and by Qatari TV in the World Cup, while at the same time slagging off that country as well). He has no apparent talent off the football pitch and the BBC should redeploy his over-inflated salary to waive the licence fee to elderly people who cannot afford it. They are more deserving than this odious, tax-dodging hypocrite is.

Yeah, let’s have no one ‘slagging off the country’ (your examples: criticising basic human rights commitments in Qatar/UK). That will definitely make the country better.

      Wow. You lot are weird.

Love the "he broke the rules" crowd ignoring what the UK government is proposing here. (Something the Australian government has done previously). It's ghastly. From all both left/right major parties.

But glad folks are more worried about what someone tweets than the inhumane treatment of highly vulnerable people in need.

The merit of having an opinion? Isn't that what we do here when we discuss choosing one player over another?

I have to admit that watching Rishi giving his little press conference with the words "STOP THE BOATS" on his pedestal was quite surreal.

His own family migrated to the UK from East Africa in the 60s.

If you ruffled up Rishi's hair and put him a dirty tracksuit I reckon 99% of UK citizens wouldn't be able to tell him apart from the current migrants.

Possibly, but I wouldn’t know. I’m just saying news outlets should be without opinion, simply report. I’ll leave the more educated people to discuss the complex things I don’t understand.

Me? My country is Australia - I specifically called that out. I was born/raised there until 28 years old.
I have lived in the USA for 11 years and it too is horrible.

I specifically called out Australia as our government's decision to "stop the boats" over 20 years ago led to horrible deaths and tragedy and the implementation of off-shore processing and detention which is internationally illegal, and yet was embrace by both left & right major parties here.

Understandable, I'd make the same assumption.

What bums me out is still no one is talking about the issue at hand here - the treatment of those seeking asylum.

Instead it's semantics and who is allowed or not allowed to talk about an issue.
That my country - or anyone's - is also terrible shouldn't stop someone from being able to point out the UK government's stance is abhorrent.

            * And if Lamptey not playing means Groß could be pushed to right back and MacAllister moving into more defensive position

      On Mitoma.
Don't own Toney but Rash and Kane tempting.

My front 8 is that from the scout picks + Haaland. For clarification:

Mitoma (lee, CRY) MacAllister (lee, CRY) Salah (bou) Rashford (SOT) Martinelli (ful)
Kane (NFO) Toney (eve, sot) Haaland (cry)

    Who do I bench?

Gotta be Martinelli (ful) hasn't it?

Yes, Martinelli, but a good problem to have?

    My dilemma put another way...

Who to bench in doing Pereira > March/Mac Allister?

    A. Darwin
    B. Salah
    C. Rashford
    D. Martinelli
    E. Saka
    F. Get a Brighton defender with my FT

    Or just roll the FT?

    One def from brentford

    A. Henry
    B. Pinnock

    ?????

Flip coin. People say Henry is more attacking. I think neither of them is. And 4 of their 5 games is away from home.

Henry is a fast attacking full back.
Pinnock scored (for the first time) last week.
      So probably neither of these.

    Bench one.

    Bruno
    Martinelli

My gut is saying Bruno. But in fear of a 20 pointer which he is more than capable of.

    d) Haaland

      Similar problem.
      IDK
Probably Martinelli - but would be typical if Haaland was rested/minutes reduced ahead of the Champions League game.

yes same here. afraid to bench D, unsure about C and B has been good to me all season but A seems the more logical Arsenal player to field this GW.

Ok. So either Salah or March. But concerned about March’s minutes if he’s carrying a niggle. Salah only plays once but could haul va BOU.

Could bring in Toney for Haaland for free. But not convinced - something is stopping me pressing the button. Am I being daft?
