Set Piece Stats 2020/21

Ten Bundesliga teams last season scored ten goals or more from set pieces. The set-piece kings were Union Berlin, scoring 20 of their fifty goals from either set pieces or penalties, a quite ridiculous 40%. This was what made Christopher Trimmel (11m) such a reliable asset last season, with his seven assists from set-pieces the highest in Europe in 2020/21. It also made their centre-backs solid assets, with Marvin Friedrich (9m) picking up five goals. Freiburg and Stuttgart also scored a high proportion of their goals from set pieces and penalties, with 19/56 for Stuttgart and 16/52 for Freiburg.

The side with the most penalties scored in 2020/21 was Gladbach. Their ten penalties meant nearly one in six of their goals were penalties (10/64), which made Lars Stindl an incredibly strong asset and will bode well for Erling Haaland under Marco Rose’s management.
