The FFS Rate My Team Surgeries

With the clamour for “Rate My Team” opinions ramping up, we thought we’d not only provide a place to collate such requests, but also allocate a window and some FFS team members to address them.

The first Fantasy Football Scout Rate My Team Surgery will take place this evening with myself and Jonty joined by an array of moderators and contributors in a bid to answer the first batch of Rate My Team queries and player pick questions.

What’s more, for the later surgeries, we’ve recruited some real experts to help us out.

Next week’s sessions are provisionally booked in for Wednesday and Friday and we’re lining up a cast of former Fantasy Premier League champions to join us in giving their views on your queries.

We plan to run Google Hangouts for part of the session, allowing you to drop in and listen to the variety of nonsense being discussed as we go through the threads.

Tonight’s surgery is booked in for 9pm until 11pm UK time and we’ll be posting an article to host your queries an hour before we get online.

Keep an eye out for the article which will appear in the community section this evening.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

With Bournemouth and Watford rotating so well I'd be tempted to switch Deeney+Anya to Deeney+Surman or Wilson+Anya.

I'm not a fan of Targett. I don't want to waste a transfer on defence early on. Maybe Ivan to Azpi to free up a mil.

huth and o shea rotate quite well except for GW 7, so I dont think Targett will be an issue for me as I will play Iva and Kos all the time.

Better use of a WC than to use it simply to facilitate a returning Aguero against a tough Chelsea defense.

Got lost at end of previous page:

Hey guys - here's a crazy outside the box idea.

As the all-out-attack chip in my eyes is going to be the hardest to use, has anyone considered using it the first week, loading up on attackers and then using the wildcard for GW2 where Aguero will probably be fit and you'll have an idea of starting teams by then too.

You could have something like this for GW1:

    Schmeichel
    Huth Targett
    Depay Fabregas Walcott Ritchie Barkley
    Costa Rooney Giroud

Please don't RMT - I picked it in 30 seconds, it's more the concept

I've saw the same idea floated about once a week or so ago.

I don't think any one knows when best to use that chip to be honest with you, but I think I'd rather use it in a week when all the teams are settled in and I know that my front 8 are all going to start and are in form.

        I'm using it because -
A- All the fixtures are sweet for my attacking players I the first week
B- Although the reliable sources here on FFS tell me my 3rd defender is pretty much nailed, I'm not 100% convinced, and this way he will be benched.
C- I won't have to spend the rest of the season fretting about when to play my Attack Chip.

        🙂

What are the main questions you'd want answered by the FPL experts?

    .
What are your Aguero plans? Money itb/start with him/WC

Defence budget? Is Ivanovic worth it? Is a cheap defence crucial in staying flexible to attacking bandwagons?

What are your favoured Arsenal midfielders?

Is an early WC a good idea with so many unknowns and a steep GW4 fixture swing? (Could bring in City attack, West Brom defenders, Copa America players etc...)

Yes, thanks. This is my favourite time of FPL, and my gf has just moved in with me 🙂

I have Costa Rooney Sakho atm. Costa's injury is a concern. Was just going to use 2FTs or a WC to get Kun.

Is investing in defence really worth it? I've seen some articles such as http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2015/07/25/the-case-for-defence/ which claim so. While playing around with the RMT tool the highest predicted points I could get in the opening 6 GWs was 330 and this was with Clyne, Koscielny, Smalling, Yoshida and Ivanovic at the back which adds to 28.5mil

no. the correlation between price and points is much weaker in defense than in midfield and attack, at least at the start of the season.

Friends, some RMT thoughts would be much appreciated:

      Butland / Ruddy

      Azpilicueta / Koscielny / Huth / Alderweireld / PVA

      Sterling / Fabregas / Ozil / Henderson / Ritchie

      Rooney / Sakho / Lukaku

Thinking - cash in on Lukaku's big GW1 before transferring to Pelle for GW2

      Dilemmas:

      (1) Is Ivanovic worth the additional 1M on Azpilicueta?

      (2) Is there a better 4.5M/5M option than Alderweireld out there?

      (3) Is it mad to go Fabregas (and better overall balance) ahead of Hazard?

      (4) Is there a better 5th midfield/3rd forward rotation pair than Ritchie and Sakho?

Really appreciate any advice or observations from the experts.

    Wildcard theory...

    - Stack for a guaranteed international break wildcard. Problem - no idea of team's form, and there isn't a big team with a really outstanding fixture list for GW 1-4. Also, danger of leaving out big players who may go up in price (e.g. from Chelsea, City who have average fixtures at best).
    - Plan long-term to keep your WC. Problem - injuries and transfers may mean you WC GW5 anyway, and in this case you just left points on the table.
    - Hedge your bets. Moderately stack the team but keep it workable if good luck means you don't have to use your WC. Problem - may end up caught in two minds and confused.

    Any thoughts good people?

My latest plan is to save it for Aguero's injury so I can quickly reallocate the funds.

    Cech, Schwarzer,

    Aguero, sakho, Pelle

I spent some time working out my own scheme. I gave teams a score out of 10 for their defence and for their attack, based on last seasons performance, and my own thoughts based on transfers and external factors. I then compared each teams attacking score, against the defensive score of their first 5 opponents. e.g. attack score of 7/10 compared with defensive score of 5/10 = +2. I did the same for defensive scores against first 5 fixtures attacking scores, to help see if this would align with how I currently see the potential in each teams fixtures.

I don't know if you guys think this was worth while or not, but I thought I would share a team that I made with this system in mind, and maybe you could rate it for me? (sorry for the essay)

    Butland / Schmeichel

    Azpilicueta, Mertesacker, Huth/Francis/Ward

    Hazard, Sterling, Ozil, Mane (Wanyama)

    Rooney, Pelle, Vardy

£0 in the bank, what are your thoughts?

    1. Daaf
      • 8 Years
      8 years, 9 months ago

I think it's quite good. Why Schmeichel instead of Ruddy? I quess it doesn't really matter since they will perform similarly.

Not a fan of Sterling to be honest, and the Vardy pick could go either way I suppose.

Your midfield is great, forward line is fine. I would put it around 8/10.

I watched the match (and I believe TorresMagic did, too, as we were both posting about it during the time -- please correct me if I am wrong), and Costa concerned me for two reasons:

He sorta hobbled off around 60 minutes, and he kinda stunk. He looked slow and awkward. Falcao was more lively and fast. Costa did not finish two relatively easy opportunities, but less than that, he was just kinda stiff out there. Add that to his little injury, and it now feels to risky to have him.

Alternatively, even though Barca did not play a physical defense (as is typical in these recent USA based club friendlies), Hazard charged forward with the ball, forcing the defense, and seems to on top of his game. He forced the play and looked dangerous.

So, no Costa for me until I see him produce (to my eventual dismay!).

I don't have that courage until I see Falcao get more minutes, for whatever reason, but I did lose confidence in Costa, so I also need to see more reliable performance before including him on my team. Rooney seemed livelier than Costa against the same Barca team a few days prior.

so when people say they are doing a GW4 wildcard, is that before the int. break or during the int. break?

    1. Piggs Boson
      • 12 Years

If price rises are more volatile this season, I'll aim for during the int break to make some team value. If they still look sluggish I'll go right after GW3 for the fixture swing.
