We roll out the first in a series of three members articles this week, analysing the player data by position over the previous four rounds of fixtures. Everton and West Brom’s right-backs arrive on our radar along with Swansea’s skipper, whilst we also cast an eye over the recent defensive displays from Liverpool, Chelsea and the Baggies.

Lukaku --> Kane / Costa for -4 to field 11 players??

For sure, get someone in for a hit to get full team out.

Wait to see if either have fixture wk 30 before making a decision both good choices, I prefer Kane but Costa decent differential.

Not sure that's worth a hit with Lukaku playing Villa in GW 28

Definitely. It's effectively a -2 as Kane/Costa will get you at least 2 appearance points which Lukaku won't get.

I'd make the decision depending on GW30 blanks, so wait for FA Cup games this weekend πŸ™‚

No rush but which do ye reckon is the better move

    Butland
    Dier, VVD, Daniels
    Ozil, Mahrez, Payet, Alli, Alexis
    Kane, Vardy
    (O'Shea, Moreno, Aguero)

    A. Moreno -> Fuchs (bench Daniels/VVD)
    B. Alexis -> Arnautovic / Shaqiri

Why resist ... in-form striker, hitting his straps in a side up on confidence and playing attacking Hiddink-style football. Avoid at your peril!

      Last 9 gameweeks:

Costa: 7 goals, 3 assists, 8 BAPs (missed a game too)
      Aguero: 7 goals, 1 assist, 8 BAPs
      Kane: 7 goals, 2 assists, 9 BAPs
      Vardy: 5 goals, 1 assist, 5 BAPs

My point being, he's right up there with the form strikers at the moment and Chelsea have some kinder fixtures coming up (Norwich & Stoke in the next 3).

Also ... I want him to rise in price, so rush out and buy in in droves please people!

    2 FT with 0.0m ITB....players with blanks*

    DDG McCarthy
    Kosceilny Daniels Fuchs Moreno* Janmaat*
    Ozil Mahrez Payer Alli Stanislas
    Lukaku* Kane Kun*

Considering Lukaku & Moreno -->> Vardy & VVD

Provided I have no injury news between now and GW 27, is there any better transfers I should do? Sort my GK situation?
    Thoughts?

You certainly need a keeper for GW30. And you might find that both transfers out have games that week.

I think this is why I'm holding my transfers until finding out more about GW30. Is is madness to think that if City have a blank GW 30 then Kun could be the one to make way for Vardy for a couple of weeks?

With the GK situation, there's a possibility that Utd can still play GW 30 right? If not then I may switch DDG to Butland/Forster instead of Moreno to VVD

Very unlikely that DDG plays GW30. I don't think Aguero > Vardy is madness but you will have to get him back for the 2 DGW.

Here's a way to position my desire to take a hit for Simpson > Fuchs (considering I want to replace Firmino this week)...

Who doesn't think that over the next half dozen favourable games for Leicester that Fuchs won't outscore Simpson by 4 points, conspiring his BPS potential and attacking threat?

I know... I suppose I'm almost assuming that Fuchs could repay the hit this week, albeit not exceed the 4 point swig, i.e. CS vs a 2 point haul.

I am just trying to rationalise... Not buying it?

I have Simpson and think Fuchs is a lot better. GW30 is important & playing one shorter due to this transfer also is in the cost. Keeping Simpson gets you to strengthen elsewhere instead.

That is true actually, if I were to take this hit at a later stage pre-GW30 to get another playing player, but this isn't an FT.

Suppose I'm just thinking that more so that usual, this is a reliable long-term transfer as a good Leicester defender looks essential until certainly GW36.

                Thanks for your thoughts mate

^ this ... if you have a sub and they only get 2 points then you've saved 2 ... at which point Fuchs and Simpson will share the CS and other points for the next 4-5 GWs. You could argue attacking points potential, but you don't "expect" that from a 4.5 defender.

If you have a sub, depending who it is ... play them and wait.

I do, however, appreciate your efforts to psych yourself into the hit ... it'll be fun either way πŸ˜‰

        1. Jøssy ⭐
          • 9 Years
          8 years, 2 months ago

Aye... Suppose I'm banking on the Leicester clean sheet and a 2 pointer from my subs. I'm sure both won't get 2, but no guarantee I pick the right one and Leicester have much better odds.

I just feel that for this nice run of fixtures, where I'll probably play simpson week-in-week-out, he is destined to score me 6 at best, and Fuchs has the potential to compliment that with BPS and assists. Not buying that?

I love a good lightweight justification for a hit! πŸ˜†

I don't think it's madness, I've done that same move.

He's very expensive to hold for two potential blanks and the winner of the Chelsea/City games presents three strong options to fill that spot.

If Chelsea wins Aguero can come straight back in for Ighalo (who's not worth selling with Bournemouth up next in my team)

If City win than Costa and Sturridge are options for that spot until it's WC time and Aguero cab come back.

City look deflated right now and have looked a shadow of themselves since they announced Guardiola, worth considering.

If you need him to field 11 than 100% as the -4 is only really a -2 and he plays in 27 and 30.

Even if you have 11 than this may be a week where hits gets absorbed as there may be loads flying about due to the blanks.

Cheers Balders! A bit of reassurance. πŸ™‚

My thought-process is less about the one-week loss of Simpson and trying to replace him for GW@7, and more about the fact that for the remainder of the season I think Fuchs is a much better option, and that it should pay off. You agree yes?

What is making this decision more difficult as that I've just gone top of my ML, but by 1 point, so I know that this literally literally drops me off top temporarily. but then if my rationale is correct, that shouldn't be a factor.

Moreno has a dgw coming up so I don't see the point of booting him esp if you got him under 5 mill.

Furthermore, his attacking stats as highlighted in the article above should convince you to keep him.

Agree with this. I know he is a hate figure round here but Moreno is one of the best defenders to own IMO. I don't intend to argue the point because people who disagree simply think about the game differently to me... but that's my opinion.

He has two games before the United game, he could quite easily play himself into form in those that could be essential for GW27.

That's a little harsh I think. As a great manager he would've loved to go out with a bang, with another title. But his style is probably not suited for the fast pace and counterattacking teams in the PL.
But the thing is, SAF adapted to the changes in the game throughout his reign. Whereas LVG remained stubborn and predictable.

to be fair, RVP is washed up and was always injured, welbeck was never useful, and chicharito was decent as an impact sub but never a useful starter. at least martial is young and has lots of potential, not that he's playing as a centre forward...

      2. Flying Dutchman

Its a shame that things didn't work out at all. its mainly 70% fault of the manager & 30% bad luck.
Lvg shouldve bought a center back, everyone knew it was necessary. But he didn't
He sold Adm because he didn't fit in the philosophy and look what his philosophy got us into.
Bad luck because of the Shaw, Darmian, Rojo staying injured constantly.

I mean why sell Chicha/RVp? Werent they good enough backups strikers??Forget CB what about Herrera and Depay? Werent they supposed to be managed better? I look at these teams playing UCL and to think to watch Manutd in Europa against some random Mitylland team is shameful to core...Its affecting my mood in real life πŸ™ We really lived in dream under Fergie

Basically he sold everyone who he thought wont fit into his philosophy. For players like Chicha, Adm, Memphis they thrive when they are given space & when they can use their pace & shots. But in this system they will never succeed.
Now I have mentioned defense because our defensive players are so poor I doubt any manager can do well with this defense. Lvg is to blame for this again.

Now honestly I think, we will do good with at least four new signings next season under a new manager.

"He was already, with different coaches, not a line-up player, but then with Mr Van Gaal [3rd person sic] the world is changing? No, the world is not changing. They are the facts.

They are not my facts, they are the facts of Danny Welbeck and we have Van Persie and we had Wilson, and when you keep Welbeck then you don't give any chance to the youngsters and that is our philosophy.

And then also we could buy Falcao. When that is not enough reason then I don't know what is... then I'm not a very good manager"

There are a lot worse places to be than 5th. Not a giant leap to get back on track next season given the amount of cash they have.

Personally i think it does fans of the big clubs good to have a dose of reality every now and again.

Team was on the slide when fergie left - only he could have won the last title with a very average team..

This was quite predictable that the after Alex will be difficult for Utd.
And i think gooners are also praying that Wenger go, but am sure they'll face the same fate once he's gone. That will break the stability. Same happened to Pool and they are still struggling.

However, I still think if the board backed Moyes with some decent signing, he claimed he wanted, they would have been far better. They say the guy, bring on VanGaal, and allow him an excess of 300M over 2 seasons. That's for me, real mismanagement!

On top of that, ManUtd have been according to some, me included, the most boring team of this season alongside Villa.

Matt Busby was a hard act to follow too. United remained in the wilderness for many years after he retired till Fergie came along.
But with the amount of money that United now have, they will surely be challenging for the title again in a year or two once they have sacked LVG and replaced him with a top manager. Not sure that Jose is the right one for them though!

Liverpool's decline was different. After their great years under Shankly, Paisley and Fagan, their problems started with the five-year ban from European competitions following Heysel.
The restrictions against fielding non-English players didn't help either - this meant that even players from Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland had to be replaced.
Other reasons were that Liverpool were left behind by United after failing to cash in on merchandising, and that Liverpool is a less prosperous area than Manchester or London anyway.

True. All English clubs were banned for 5 years, and Liverpool were banned for 10 years, but it was later reduced to 6. Before this, English Clubs dominated European competitions and were European Cup winners 7 years out of 8 between 1977 and 1984, but the rest of Europe improved while we had been away and the next English success was not till 1999.

English Clubs were also handicapped by the newly-introduced restrictions on foreign players (with even Scottish, Welsh and Irish players counting as foreign), and Souness's English signings were not of the same standard as the players they replaced.

How different things are these days, with the Premier League dominated by foreign players from all over the world!

Moyes had all the backing of the board financially the difference was how he chose to go about spending it.. flirting all summer with Fabregas and Bale who had no intention of signing up to play under him and then on deadline day when he realised time was nearly up sh!t his pants and bought Fellaini for about 3 or 4 million more than would of cost a month before

Moyes wasn't doing the negotiations. He identified the players and the board should have brought them in. THEY weren't able to due to the commercial man coming in and trying to play hard ball over negotiations. They then panicked and brought fellaini who Moyes never wanted in the first place in. Moyes got shafted by the board.

I'd say it's a lot more likely they weren't able to because neither Fabregas or Bale wanted to come and play for David Moyes.. its no surprise that at that time the only one who fancied it was Fellaini who by the way he had already bought once before and was instrumental for him at Everton.. if you're trying to say the board went behind his back and signed Fellaini against his will then im afraid thats bollocks.. He was not shafted in anyway by the board regarding recruitment he was shafted by just being David Moyes..

I'm being careful with what I sas here as I don't want to insult you but do you realise how idiotic that sounds?

Are you saying that utd are not big emough of a pull now to get top players who are not playing regularly for their clubs (fabregas)? Or young players with potential from provincial clubs (herrera)?

You are so down on Moyes and his reputation but he managed to bring in skillful payers at Everton like pienaar and a few others with big reps like Royston drenthe etc. I'm not saying him not being considered a top level manager wasn't part of the issue but for you to be putting sole blame on him just sounds idiotic

there is nothing more idiotic than implying that Moyes didn't want Fellaini a player he had signed before and was a huge fan of and that the board went over his head to do so also implying that the manager had no say in transfers.. likening the signings of Steven Pienaar and Royston Drenthe to those of Bale and Fabregas is even more ridiculous than the previous two statements above to be fair and even typing that with a straight face was tough
The whole point i was trying to make before you piped up was that he had every bit as much money available to him as LVG he just didn't go about it in the right way chasing unrealistic targets and then panicking when it came to the end of the window

You're not getting the point at all. If Moyes wanted fellaini he'd have got him earlier. The way i would read it is Moyes gave the board a list of targets and THEY didn't secure them As a last minute thing they went for fellaini as he was all that was left on the shelf.

You seem to place no store on the pull of utd and seem to think that any player that signed would only do so for Moyes not the fact that they were joining the great man utd. If Moyes was such a poor draw how did he manage to sign mata? Bale was never an option imo and we don't even know if Moyes looked for him. Fabregas was a bit part player at Barcelona who would have sold him for 35m but utd wouldn't pay more than 30m.

To say Moyes was given the same money is clearly wrong when utd wouldn't even stump up the extra 5m to buy fabregas (who incidentally went to Chelsea the following summer for 35m and helped lead them to the title).

The board also managed to sign herrera the following summer after the monumental mess up during Moyes summer.

I'm an impartial observer here and methinks you might be a little to close to the club to admit their mistakes. It is far easier to blame it on Moyes.

Fellaini clearly wasn't first choice like i said in my original post it was a panic buy with time running out time he had wasted chasing Fabregas and Thiago

United as a club have plenty of pull but the manager of the club at the time is a huge part for any player wanting to join and looking at Moyes CV wouldnt of inspired a great deal of confidence in the worlds best players and i believe that played a huge part ultimately

Mata comes under the category of top players no doubt and was a great signing of course helped by the fact that it was clear he wouldn't be playing at Chelsea and wanted to stay in England..

The board royally screwed up the Herrera transfer that is undeniable and true

Not denying that the hierarchy in particular Woodward aren't the most competent but also Moyes lack of pedigree would of been a huge issue with the very best players

Apologies then as I thought you were putting the majority of the blame on Moyes.

Fyiw I never thought Moyes had the right pedigree or played the right style of football for utd but the only thing I'd blame him for at utd was the direct route 442 tactics he played. Even then it is hard to blame him for doing exactly what it said on the tin. Moyes also had a much more difficult job as he had to manage much higher expectations from the utd board and fans as well as the senior players left behind (most of whom lvg cleared out).

I'd not blame him for the transfer shenanigans though as he clearly identified players who could have been signed in baines, fabregas, herrera and possibly one or two more we might never hear about. I doubt they were ever seriously in for bale as that kind of transfer would not have made it public unless there was a chance of it happening (it usually all unofficial while the clubs suss out if there is a chance of it coming off).

he's so old school, Ferguson stuck with his principles but evolved the team into a high pressing, quick tempoed team that looked to hit teams on the counter.

LvG's boring brand of slow, possession football just has no place in the modern game. Quick, tiki-tak football is all when and good if you have the quality of Barcelona, but other teams would obviously struggle to emulate it, and i'm not suggesting Man U tried this type of football... but Man United at the moment is like a boring version of Barcelona, with no attackng imuptus and by far the worst squad of players i've seen since i've been a fan.

Heads need to roll. LvG and in my opinion more importantly, Woodward needs to go. He's seen the spendature of 200 million on players who havent strengthened the team significantly.

It's been a tough 3 and pretty bleak last 3 years there's no doubt but losing the greatest manager there has ever been who had been in control and built the club in his way for over a quarter of a century was always going to be huge.. tougher to take for yourself personally as a fan of just 11 years you will only have known success a little less so for me who has supported them closer to 30 and remembers a time when we where without a league title in 26 years.. we have fallen below our ridiculously high standards over the last few seasons but a fall from grace would be more applicable to an Arsenal side who haven't won a league title in 12 years and just 2 trophies in that time or Liverpool who are now 26 years without a league title.. we have a squad more than able to compete with a manager who will give them the freedom and belief to do so..

United under David Moyes and LVG has probably been worse than at any time during Fergie's reign, but there must have been many United teams in the years between Matt Busby's retirement and Fergie's arrival that were worse still - one of them even got itself relegated.

But has there ever been a United team as negative and boring as LVG's?

There appear to be a few signs recently that some of the players might have rebelled against LVG's philosophy and tried to attack a bit more. LVG claims that nothing has changed though, so he can't really take any credit for it.

But it is notoriously difficult to succeed a successful manager, Liverpool's succession of promotions from the Anfield boot-room being a rare exception.

Been doing that with most my posts for 4 years diva. Just tend to do about 5-10 a day. Needs to be 10+ a day to hit 200 in a month.

Sorry Zan. I hope that didn't sound mean. I know you've been helpful in the deadzone since before I stopped lurking and became active here. It was just funny looking at this page with you guys finding creative ways to boost your post count, while people were asking for advice. πŸ˜€

To Mr. GRV's point, I tend to do responses in short bursts too. The questions can get repetitive after a page or two.

I'm making a bit of a joke of it but I understand Jarvis has to find an objective way to draw the line.

I've been doing that but realised my advice was rubbish; eg play Migs and bench Mahrez!
