With mid-price goalscoring defenders playing such a significant role in Fantasy Football in recent times, we thought we’d delve into the Members’ Opta statistics to help identify those sides who are posing the biggest threat in the air from set-pieces.

We took a closer look at the “Aerial Duels” statistic, calculating the percentage of duels won so far for each team in the Premier League and then put these together with set-pieces won and a measure of deadball delivery. Throw in some specific player stats that help analyse the key individuals, and you have our handy guide to the teams that lead the air raid and the defenders most likely to benefit.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

              And no Fabs wont go up anytime soon. He has nearly as many Transfers out as he does in this week.

      Mole,

      I think you'll find Fabs is protected for a few days yet. The protection comes after the injury marker is removed. That was only last week. So possibly protected till the weekend.

        I think his protection ended today.

        I'm not sure he'll rise more then 0.1 as there are still doubts about Wenger playing him and other good options like Nani and Tevez for this GW

      According to custom, Fabregas will have a 10 day protection period in which is price will not change. This means he will probably see a rise next Monday, the earliest.

    RMT WC:

    Krull / Al-Habsi
    Elmo / Dann / Faye / Crainey / Jara
    Fabregas / Malouda / Nani / Adam / VdV
    Varney / Tevez / Drogba

    0.1 in bank. Gone for a cheap back.

    Mark, a superb piece of writing backed up with compelling stats. Interesting is the analysis on Stoke as I have been keen to acquire Kenwyn Jones whose 46 from 65 aerial duels won is interesting. I believe he is the epicentre to the good things that will surround Stoke and as such at 6.9 allows a very strong midfield on my part.

        I agree with this. His price is way too high for what he provides. If Ethers has an off day, Jones will do nothing. There are similar options for much lower prices.

        Not expensive but mid-range striker IMO. There is undoubted ability in Kenwyne and what I have seen of him this season, rather delights me. He looks mobile, willing to put a shift in and looks hungry (not what could have been said last season). 3 goals in 4, 3 BPs to date and he will total up some minutes this season, so his 104 points last season from 2100 minutes should be surpassed fairly easily. I think around the 150 -160 points mark. Only doubt I have is fixtures in forthcoming weeks.

      agreed, if you're looking for cheap striking option he's definitely high up on the watch list. as soon as they signed him i thought he could have a break out year as his aerial danger fits perfectly w/stoke's style of play, similar to carroll in that regard.

    Two questions:

    If everyone would be healthy, what would chelseas back four look like?

    How does this "price protection" work, how come Alex isnt protected for example?

      From what I gather, players enter a protection period once they are not flagged as injured anymore. For 10 days or something.

      Someone else will no better than I do no doubt, but I'm sure it's along those lines.

      you have higher # to drop while injured but can still drop...protection happens when his flag is removed, then transfers don't count at all during the 7+ day period

        Bleurgh....

        Alex will be centre back with Terry. Hell, he's the best centre back we have!! Chances are that rotation will cloud the matter, but in general it will be Bosingwa and Ivanovic slugging it out for RB slot...

        Sean - Bosingwa started most games at RB at the beginning of last season, under Ancelotti. Although even then he didn't seem to trust him in the bigger games. Ivanovic started against both United and Liverpool.

    I transfered Gerrard to Nani this week, and planning getting Fabs in GW10, but not sure how to do it.

    A) Nani -> Fabs
    B) Malouda -> Fabs
    C) Downgrade Tevez to a 7.9 forwarder, and then Yaya -> Fabs but then i will have no City cover

    Opinions?

          Really? Your link says you have 3.8 under the mattress and surely you saved cash by Gerrard to Nani? Anyhoo you know your own finances best, maybe a temporary change Malouda to Fabregas could be the way forward whilst Chelsea are entering a slightly tougher period. Either way I would be loathe to lose Malouda, Fabregas or Nani for the long term.

              Aha! Sorry, tis the late hour. Anyroad if I had to sack one off long term it would be Yaya, gain city coverage by getting either Kolarov or Boateng - in my opinion they won't be scoring stupid amounts of goals anyway so better to have Chelsea & Man U players.

    Thinking of Odemwingie > Elmander and Gerrard to Fabregas for 4 pt hit.

    Would love to get Arteta in as well instead of Bale but not enough money for that unless I downgrade Odem for Varney.

    Either way I'm happy to ship Odem out since he's injured and has lots of away games coming up.

    Hey guys any opinions would be awesome
    Foster Krul
    Alex Konchesky Hughes Shawcross Jara
    Gerrard Malouda Bale Davies Barton
    Drogba Tevez Carroll
    1.2 in the bank

    So I'm going to do my first hit of the season
    Bale, Alex out => Nani, Elmo in

    I know Alex supposedly will only miss one game, but I need the cash to get in Nani. I'm hoping I have not completely missed the boat on him, and West Brom at home is too nice a fixture to let go. I'll be giving him the armband as well so he really should make up the hit...Nani and Elmo both seem fixture proof, and will be main stays in my side barring injury.

    So there's myself convincing myself to take the hit.
    Any agree/oppose?
    (I will get Fabregas in for Gerrard GW10)

    Cheers!

        It's a good move. He's OoP, and he'll get some attacking points very soon because he's getting LOADS of crosses into the box.

        For me, he's essential, and he'll play every week unless he's away at one of the big 4.

    1) Alex-Kolorov-Adam-Fabregas?

    OR

    2) Coleman-P.Jones-Nani-Fabregas?

    Basically stronger defence or Nani. Attackers more or less always get bigger scores each GW (1 assist = to CS) but a more balanced team makes the team scores more reliable each GW, so which option is better?

        Ah, well I already have Alex.

        I know Alex and Kolorov are rotation risks, but tbh they are should be first on teamsheet for those clubs. Easier said then done.

        Nani could kill me as I have no Utd coverage but he will suck all funds out of me (defence) and cost me another 4 points instead of option 1. It's a tough call. I usually go for attacking rather than defensive insticts normally but bit hestitant on this. Chelsea + City vs Utd really.

          it was near the bottom of this page- basically just jamsiep doing his usual stirring, which didn't go down well with certain people...

          (for the record I don't want liverpool to go bust- but seeing them lose 9 points would still be quite funny...)

    Have somehow mananged to resist making a transfer yet this GW...any suggestions given squad is:

    (Foster), Jaask
    (Alex), P Jones, Williamson, Foley, (Jara)
    Malouda, Gerrard, Bale, Etherington, (Nolan)
    Drogba, Tevez, Carroll
    1.0m in the bank

    I think I'm down to either
    a) Gerrard -> Fabregas or
    b) Gerrard -> Nani

    Either case i'll probably captain whoever I bring in.

            Chelsea's fixtures are irrelevant, they are the best team in the league and score the most points. Malouda is their best attacking midfielder.

            He looks tired? Nonsense. Stop trying to persuade yourself to get rid of him.

            I would just stick to the Gerrard>Fabs transfer.

            also, jones is a cheaper option than samba, although samba more likely to score on headers. shawx could be a long term option too as his price is down, but has a run of tough fixtures ahead so if you get him just bench him- plus i'd have to see the rest of your team. i'm assuming your mf and forward lines are stacked?
