Barring the unthinkable, Kevin Davies will be sitting on 54 points in the Fantasy Premier League this evening. His brace of goals and the smart assist for Martin Petrov’s late fourth in the win over Spurs will surely earn him the maximum Bonus Points. That would move the Bolton striker onto 14 Bonus Points overall – more than any other Forward in the game.

The underdogs and the unfashionable were always in with a chance of shining this weekend. With some of the FPL’s top individuals – Rafael Van der Vaart, Nani and Florent Malouda all possibly missing out, the opportunity was always there for the unsung heroes to step forward and save the Gameweek. Ji-Sung Park stepped out of Nani’s shadow and duly obliged over at Old Trafford, but in Fantasy terms, they don’t come more unsung than Kevin Davies.

As usual the Bolton striker was heavily involved throughout today’s game. His Bonus Point popularity may well be a mystery to some, but for those familiar with his influence and contribution to the cause, it’s no surprise. Our Members need only cast an eye over the Opta stat tables, paying particular attention to “Touches”, “Passes Made”, “Key Passes” and “Successful Passes in the Oppositions Half”, to get a view on how Davies compares to the rest of the league. He is without doubt one of the most influential strikers around. In the FPL, that will always make up for his lack of goals – particularly in a Bolton side bereft of stars.

Having earned 18 Bonus Points last season, with 12 the season before that, Davies is on his way to having his best ever season in that area. As for goals, spot-kick duties can only help the cause, as demonstrated today. With 4 goals to his name so far, and a couple of assists to back them up, there’s every reason to expect Davies to notch his best ever FPL points tally.

While Fabio Capello has taken notice, Fantasy Managers have chosen to pass. Priced at 6.3 and with Johan Elmander a cheaper and more fashionable option, Davies seems unlikely to pick up huge interest, even after today’s 16 point haul. Two away fixtures at Everton and Wolves may also put off investors. Bolton have not yet failed to score on their travels however, and once through that pair of away games, Bolton enjoy three home fixtures in four, with Newcastle, Blackpool and Blackburn all visiting the Reebok. Davies has every chance of getting himself on our Christmas wishlists.

Along with Elmander, Davies is this evening amongst the top six strikers in the FPL. Only the Drogba/Anelka fair better as a pairing. Few could have predicted such success for the Bolton attack at the start of the season – a fitting scenario on a day for the underdog.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

ffs never listening to comments on here again! The slating comments I received when suggesting Park may be a good opportunity for captaining given Man Utd weak midfield! I went with the crowd and chose Arteta instead of Park!! AAARRRGGGHH!!

As a United fan, I would of told you to stay away from Park too, it is just one of those days, yes it would of been a nice little points spinner, odds were against him to have a good day, and I would of said Hernandez should of got a goal or two before the game today, you never can tell.

In future though, I would say, the game is there to be played by you, and you alone, you are the manager of your own team, not the posters on here who are merely voicing their legitimately held beliefs. Always go with your gut, it's more fun.

I am a United fan though too and I actually rate Park, I think when given the chance he's a little live wire and given United's weakened midfield, just thought it gave him a chance to shine which it did. Ah well, nobody's fault but my own. Will maybe listen to my gut feelings next time 🙁

I want to buy a penalty taking striker (I know it's a bit convoluted) for Drogba after the Sunderland game, and now seeing Davies has taken two in a row he has joined that list of potential buys along with Bent, Tevez and RVP as possible "gets" depending on what I can do with the varied finances... I'd be keeping him, Bolton's fixtures get goooooooood quite soon.

No pen for Adam today? Will just have to take his 2 points then!

Elmander will hopefully get 3 more, and nice cleanie from Elmohamady “He won’t start!” and Albrighton stepped in off the subs bench and did a job, pity O’Shea didn’t leave the game about 10 minutes earlier!

Great/Lucky win for United, but 3 points is 3 points!

The trouble with players scoring 2 goals this season is that they invariably then retrn nothing for like 4 or 5 GW's thereafter.

My double move of Bale and Arteta failed miserably, in keeping with pretty much everything else that's happened for me this season.

I think this ain't gonna be my year.

Terrible 🙂 13 from 4 with Foley coming off the bench with 1 point. My cup opponent is on 20 so far having bloody Coleman! I guess he might get BPs too although I didn't see the game.

With the differentials left I can't see me going through this round.

13 points is pretty terrible but most of my attack comes tomorrow including Fabs captain so it could be a terrible game week or another one of those that gets taken to an "ok" points score after all the games are over.

                Nice work.

I thought I had the goalies correct again going for Robinson over Foster (which to be fair did net me an extra point) but I wanted Robinson to hold out for a clean sheet (naturally).

I guess with all those goalscorers you might be looking at possible BPs too. I don't really have a chance of any today unless Adam or Elmo get really lucky!

In non FPL news. I am 11 games from the end of the premier league season on my first save on FM2011 as Utd. Looking like Chelsea are going to win the league as I'm 5 points behind and they've only lost once all season compared to my 5.

Chelsea also knocked me out of the league cup (my weak youngers vs their full team lost 1-0) and I'm about to face them in the FA Cup 5th round.

Liking the game so far, will like it even more if I win the treble!

So then, Coleman... is he going to keep getting starts?? Which players could knock him out the side, and why aren't they are the moment?

He should start now that Osman (normally first choice right sided mid) has been confirmed out for 6 weeks after op.

Saha might, if Moyes decides to go 4-4-2, which he did for about half an hour in the Stoke game last week. Not sure how likely that is though, especially after the boy's goal today.

Moyes only ever goes 4-4-2 when we're chasing, did it 4 or 5 times last season and only time i've seen us more effective with two up front is against Liverpool this year, and that was only as Beckfords pace stretched their tired defense, doesnt work the same with the Yak.

Anichebe is Coleman's biggest threat as I see it, but knowing Moyes he will need to prove himself first, so Coleman will have a few weeks yet. Seamus is doing a decent job and Moyes doesnt drop players on form

You have 13 from 7 when Elmander comes off your bench... Doesn't make it much better but you have Nasri and Fabregas so all is not lost.

You have 9 from 8 once Elmander comes off the bench and your 4pt hit is taken into account-but as greghammer says, if arsenal rip newcastle up tomorrow it can still be an ok GW.

well even after choosing at the last minute to transfer in Arteta and captain him instead of Park for Nani, I have 22 points before bonus with 5 left to play so it may not turn out all bad?
