SUPERIOR BEING SUPERIOR BEING
Share:

In a season where the same group of Fantasy Players seem to be scoring heavily in the points, the quest for a differential becomes more like searching for the proverbial pot of gold.

I find myself trailing in my mini league to a leader who owns the big-hitting Ashley Cole, Carlos Tevez, Nani etc, etc, so I reckoned my decision to stick with Mikel Arteta was a good (albeit hopeful) one. The Spaniard certainly helped me to mini league glory last season anyway.

But after a below-par Fantasy Season so far, what has happened to Mikel Arteta? I decided to look at the stats to find out:

Last season, Arteta played 1033 minutes in the league. This season, he has played 1041, so this makes for a fairly straightforward comparison.

SeasonGoalsAssistsBonus
2010-112012
2009-106217

Quite a significant difference then, let’s see what the OPTA stats show …

SeasonTouchesSucc Pass Opp HalfGoal AttemptsOn TargetPenalties ScoredEverton Goals
2010-111024 45812 5 013
2009-101094 4841612 225

Notice Arteta is touching the ball and making Successful Passes in the Opponents Half just as much as he did last season. However, it’s his shooting that is really letting the playmaker down; last season 75% of Goal Attempts were on target whereas only 42% have been this season.

Arteta cannot be blamed for this dip in form alone, though; as a team, Everton are contributing to his Fantasy demise, too. Not only have David Moyes’ side not been awarded any penalties for Arteta to benefit from, they are also not scoring as many goals. In the 12 games Arteta has played this season, Everton have scored 13 goals, whereas in the 13 games Arteta played last season, Everton scored 25. Now if you take away the 2 penalties scored you will see Arteta was responsible for 17% of outfield goals last season which is very similar to the 15% he has achieved this season. This indicates that when Everton do finally start scoring with more regularity, Mikel Arteta may, indeed, be that pot of gold many of us are searching for.

SUPERIOR BEING SUPERIOR BEING thinks the world is just one huge maths puzzle waiting to be solved.

    I've got big problems:

    Foster | Krul
    Zhirkov | Coleman | Faye | Elmo | Jara
    Mal | Nani | Fabs | Adam | Barton
    Carroll | Drogs | Tevez
    0.3 in the bank

Adam inj (prob), Barton banned, Faye and Elmo big rotation risks, Carroll not 100%, Tevez not 100%, Drog not 100% Jara just back from S America.

Plan was to do Mal to Cahill and Elmo to Kolarov for a 4pt hit, but now I think I shouldn't sell someone that might actually be playing this weekend.

Elmo to Konch and pray that I can put 11 out?

    Advice is more than welcome

Grrr! Vidic set to rise tonight.

Don't like doing my transfers till Friday night, but if I'm going to get him in anyway tomorrow then I may as well do it now and beat the price rise and also go some way to making some money on him, no?

I'm torn between him and Hangeland though. Hangs also has good fixtures for 4 of the next 6.

I may get Hangeland next week too anyway as I've been promising myself an upgraded defence for a while now. Lol!

Bardsley even though I hate swapping people of the same team. I think a Sunderland defender is imperative at the moment.

Tricky one. It's a shame Bolton's midfield is so lightweight in the points department. I think you have to go Jarvis.

Dropped last 2 games. Now not sure if he's going to start again for a while.

With most people playing 3-5-2 Elmo was part of the 3 man non rotatable defense that most of us playing that formation basically wanted to trot out every week.

As we're not totally confident in playing our bench fodder defenders most of us are looking to upgrade Elmo to someone else who is an assured starter with a good chance of bonuses and cleanies.

To answer Milky, why not Hangeland and Jarvis?

Nani goes without saying. Vidic is hard to deny. Evra ia terrible value. Where are the assists this season?? 1 assist with a grand total of 36 and Rio can simply not be trusted injury wise and has been part of 3 cleanies in 7 including the most tepid Manc derby to my knowledge.

Two mids is extreme but some would with Chelsea, spurs or Arsenal.

Onouha is a good move but I don't think Lee is.

You can get better mids for a few bucks more.

Basically, I'd only want Davies or Elmander from Bolton at the moment. When they start replicating last season's home defensive prowess then I'd be interested in their defence. Until then, no thanks.

Their mids dont pick up many points and assists normally go to one of the other strikers who doesn't score.

Guys, if I do Arteta to Jarvis I have enough enough cash to do Williamson, Foley or Elmo to Vidic, leaving me with a regular 3 of Cashley, Vidic and Konchesky

Which one would you get rid of?

Elmo is the most expensive and appears to be bigger rotation risk now, but I rarely ever play Williamson (in fact I played Foley over Williamson last week, which turned out to be the right move!) so, really, should he be the one I get rid of?

All week I've assumed I'd go Vidic for Elmo but now wondering if firing out Williamson is the better long term move?

    Agree or not?

Whatever you do, DON'T pick Rooney! He's a classic case of a player who's grown in reputation through not playing.

Least we forget, he's been bloody woeful for a long, long time. A spot of R & R in Dubai isn't going to remedy that!

want to get in ferdinand for elmo but would have to downgrade malouda. who should i get instead in midfiled, was thinking Jarvis???
also wanted to do piquionne->elmander and foster -> hart/jask but would it be worth the 4 point hit for either of them?

i could also keep malouda and downgrade drogba to elmander

Kyriakos will get bonus for clean sheets although I'm not so sure they will get one at the weekend with Lucas, Gerrard and Skrtel.

His points per game must be very decent over the last couple of seasons. He absolutely dominated us in the air all afternoon when Liverpool beat us a few weeks ago and that doesn't happen too often. I just worry about his place in the team

So after the whole week of me getting rid of Malouda I may keep him for ONE MORE WEEK and do

    Zhirkov to Kolarov

    Caroll to Elmander

save the Malouda transfer for next week. There's no-one really that obvious to get in, although no doubts VDV will score points again!

    Hey guys,

Just making a final call on the wildcard and need my last 2 defenders (Currently have Vidic, Kolarov, Coleman nailed on). I have 11.1m to spend. Thoughts on who I shoud get?

    a. Ivan & Simpson
    b. Bosingwa & Samba
    c. Bosingwa Konchesky

    Someone else?

Note: I'm going with a Gordon, Jaask keepers combo and don't wanna double up if it can be helped. cheers.

I've had a miserable few weeks and figure it's time for a revamp before the people in my mini league start to really catch me up. I have various transfers in mind but...

can an 8 point hit ever be justified if you can put a full 11 out?
