In a season where the same group of Fantasy Players seem to be scoring heavily in the points, the quest for a differential becomes more like searching for the proverbial pot of gold.

I find myself trailing in my mini league to a leader who owns the big-hitting Ashley Cole, Carlos Tevez, Nani etc, etc, so I reckoned my decision to stick with Mikel Arteta was a good (albeit hopeful) one. The Spaniard certainly helped me to mini league glory last season anyway.

But after a below-par Fantasy Season so far, what has happened to Mikel Arteta? I decided to look at the stats to find out:

Last season, Arteta played 1033 minutes in the league. This season, he has played 1041, so this makes for a fairly straightforward comparison.

Notice Arteta is touching the ball and making Successful Passes in the Opponents Half just as much as he did last season. However, it’s his shooting that is really letting the playmaker down; last season 75% of Goal Attempts were on target whereas only 42% have been this season.

Arteta cannot be blamed for this dip in form alone, though; as a team, Everton are contributing to his Fantasy demise, too. Not only have David Moyes’ side not been awarded any penalties for Arteta to benefit from, they are also not scoring as many goals. In the 12 games Arteta has played this season, Everton have scored 13 goals, whereas in the 13 games Arteta played last season, Everton scored 25. Now if you take away the 2 penalties scored you will see Arteta was responsible for 17% of outfield goals last season which is very similar to the 15% he has achieved this season. This indicates that when Everton do finally start scoring with more regularity, Mikel Arteta may, indeed, be that pot of gold many of us are searching for.

    I was going to jump on the Vidic bandwagon by doing Tevez - Elmander and Jara - Vidic. Vidic has 3 great fixtures so we might be looking at around 18 points? But he then has Arsenal and Chelsea. Tevez could score 18 points in one match. Think i'll stick with Tevez.

        i see you are irish, sorry. Its like this, say you earn £20,000 a year and already have a mortgage.             it means your taxes will have to rise and your public services get cut so your schools, hospitals etc will be poo. hey ho. Worst thing about theirish thing though is that they spent all that cash bailing out the anglo irish bank which has nothing to do with the ordinary irish folk. Its a bank that specialises in investing money from billlianaires all around the world. The gov basically bailed out international billionaires and used the ordinary peoples money to do it. Disgraceful really. Rant over

      not a bad team at all, i personally dont trust tevez week to week right now, excellent player but somethings wrong there at city ATM IMO. shave 4 mil off, get elmander, then upgrade a defender to an elite reliable guy, such as vidic. This time last week i would have said ditch bale, having him and VDV isnt wise but after last week hard to maintain that stance. Still think its better in the long run to only own one of them.

          the way he passed those tyres, hel be unstoppable against wigan!

          honestly tho, it is not a case of a player gainign in reputation, its a player who was the second best in the premier league last season ,and is the second(maybe third) best striker in the PL. He will hit form again, after a good R and R, a bump in wages, the returned support of your manager, less pressure from your team,

          ya now seems a likely time to hit form!

      Bolton havent kept a clean sheet in a while but have some clean sheet fixtures coming up.... blackburn have some great home fixtures and chris becomes a striker at times

            fabs and rvp is too much coverage for arsenal. fabs is the only coverage needed. just like i don't think teams should have both drogs and malouda because when they have a tough run of fixtures then you're looking at nice 2 pts. across the board. have malouda/rvp, or drogs/fabs.

              I both RVP and Fabs are injury free, then I completely disagree. They are the main 2 scorers in terms of FPL for Arsenal.

      it isnt going to be long before didier hits form again, Lets see what Rooney does against Wigan before jumping in. Cant see him getting the full 90.... probsbly make an appearence from the bench.

      Same situation with RVP... give it a week

      RVP and Rooney could be a great December strike force.... not just yet though

    Haha, I've messed up so much this week. I knee-jerked Sunday night and I've taken an 8 point hit doing Malouda, Elmo and Dembele out for Nani, Toure (Already have Kolarov) and Odemwingie.

    Players I'm selling are fine, they all needed to go but if I hadn't rushed into it I would of got Samba instead of Toure and Kevin Davies instead of Odemwingie.

    So I've made an 8 point hit on transfers I wish I'd never done, greatttttt..

        Olsson and Tamas are first choice but Olsson is out until Xmas. Tamas should be safe for the whole season but Shorey is our most nailed on defender.

        Im hoping drogbas price dosent drop before we all have seen Rooney play.
        Was going to dump Drogs this week , but it looks as if hes safe from a drop before next gameweek starts

        Will use this week to improve defence , we will know a lot more next game week , there will be Defoe , Van persie and Rooney to watch

              The other 2 transfers are needed to raise the cash to do Albrighton to Nani.

              I could swap Bale for Nani? (I have VDV), but after last week that seems crazy-if Harry persists with 442, Bale's returns could increase and VDV's decrease, so I'd rather wait and see before I ditch one of them.

          Risky. But you never know... Captaining a player you are bringing in makes a 4pt hit more acceptable in my book. But that said, I doubt I'll captain Rooney if I bring him in.
