This double Gameweek conundrum has had us in its grip. Its wicked little game, complicated by an evil blank for three teams in Gameweek 28 has “twisted our melons” and left us firing questions into the ether in vain hope that clarity would show itself. Everything is still blurry.

We’ve done our best over the past few days to bring you a breakdown of the options available, laced with our opinion on the best routes to take. Our “Scouting the Doubles” articles will close tonight with West Brom completing the set of eight. Those, together with Andy’s Captain Poll article and Big Dunc’s “Spot the Differentials” (coming tomorrow), not to mention this week’s ScoutCast, complete possibly the most thorough analysis of teams and players we’ve cobbled together prior to a Gameweek deadline.

You now add the Scout Picks to the mix, although, in the light of this week’s coverage, I’m not about to cover the same ground with more player-by-player analysis, re-affirming the facts, stats and speculation. I won’t leave you hanging high and dry either though.

Selecting a Scout Pick lineup in a double Gameweek scenario is never easy. The obvious candidates stand out like Nikola Zigic at a Jimmy Krankie convention – you can’t ignore them and they’re always likely to use their size once the cling flim comes off the buffet.

Only one non-double Gameweek player finds his way into the lineup . Liverpool’s quest for their fifth clean sheet has them host the woefully inconsistent Wigan at Anfield and that’s a good enough prospect for me to snatch one of their defence. Even this was far from cut and dry. With Martin Kelly a slight injury doubt, I was forced to opt for Glen Johnson – a more expensive, but equally expansive option who can offer defensive and attacking returns.

Elsewhere, the familiar lack of clean sheet potential made it difficult to look beyond even the flimsiest double Gameweek prospects.

Michael Dawson and Gonzalo Jara get the nod because the prospect of 4 appearance points outweigh the option of hoping for a clean sheet from the United defence without Rio Ferdinand against rivals City, or perhaps backing Chris Samba at home to Newcastle.

Jara looks every inch like fools gold, but today’s appointment of Roy Hodgson pushed me to take a gamble on the Baggies rearguard for at least their second home clash with rivals Wolves. You never know, Jara may even return that assist that his OPTA stats appear to threaten.

In midfield the selection was made more difficult by the blank in Gameweek 28 – do I consider the problems this causes or simply select those who offer the best returns?

The strategy is always to select the top scorers for the Gameweek, so Tottenham’s Aaron Lennon, Birmingham’s Craig Gardner and of course, Cesc Fabregas all earn their place. Charlie Adam, edges out West Brom’s Chris Brunt to the bench despite the yellow card sword of Damocles hanging over him.

Kevin Nolan is nowhere to be seen – I’ve left him at home staring at his Andy Carroll scrapbook. Ashley Young? Yeah, tempted, but I’ll leave him rewinding his bit against Denmark on Sky plus. Villa and Young should return at Blackpool though.

Talking of which, Darren Bent almost made it in up front. In the end the obvious silken skills of Robin Van Persie and the pacey menace of Peter Odemwingie, has them on the bus and in the team.

The aforementioned Nikola Zigic gets the bench spot – provided he takes off those stupid school shorts and cap.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    biggest decision of the season..
currently in 6th place in my league and think it's time i took a risk BUT.. is a (16) point hit worth bringing in chez dawson lennon fabs and odem!? the way i see it is that they effectively pay for themselves if they all get 4pts anyway? thought pleaaaase?

They don't need four poits, they need four more than those they replaced (or anyone benched). Not impossible but unlikely. But hey, if it makes the game more fun for you go for it! 🙂

I'm inclined to agree especially given upcoming fixtures. I'm sceptical of Lennon and Brunt. Cahill comes in next week for me I think, Bentley could be good for this week, I'd probably still go with Young.

Weak scout picks this week in my opinion.

Foster should definitely be in goal. His save points are far more reliable than Szczesnys.

Jara and Dawson are also risky picks that probably won't deliver. Huth and Djourou are much safer and will probably do better.

Midfield and attack looks good. I'd have Bentley over Gardner, and maybe not have Adam considering the suspension tight rope. Meireles could be a good shout at home against Wigan.

    My team:

    Foster

    Huth, Djourou, Johnson, Johnson

    Fabregas, Bentley, Meireles, Lennon

    RVP, Odemwingie

Johnson is in there, that explains why Foster isn't too.

Camzy, got to say I agree with you on that! Just took a look at your team and its quite similar to mine, what change did you make this week?

I was wondering if you could give me some advice on my team? Its..

      Foster Al-Habsi
      Kelly Djourou Coleman Ferdinand Murphy
      Adam VdV Yaya Fabregas Nani
      Tevez Berbatov RvP

Have two free transfer and think my team needs both changes!

Want to get rid of one of:

Ferdinand or Murphy……and one of…...Berbatov or VdV

Just adding the final touches to my WC, could do with some help on two accounts:

a)Walker or Enrique/any other defender below about £4.7mil
b)Lennon or Young – going with Lennon would mean a guaranteed 4 point hit next week to switch him to Young, although obviously Lennon has a double this week & his hitting form.

Evening gents, hope you're all well 🙂

I see in the scout picks there's Gardner and he was originally my choice to pick up some points over the DGW and him being there doesn't make things any better. But for the past few days it's been Barton on my mind to bring in, should I stick with my original Garder pick or jump on the Barton wagon?

VDV -> Barton (chances of VDV playing v Blackpool?)
Carroll -> Odemthingy (lose value in Carroll, but don't see a return for ages)

    anytime goalscorer odds:

    nani (MCY): 3.6
    cahill (@bol): 3.1

i know points are scored for assists, bonus etc, but i was quite surprised to see those odds. i was playing nani until i saw that.
    who would you play?

arsene says "Cesc and Van Persie will both be playing."
Is this actually the case or is he just saying that they are fit and available?

Just as a reminder, and I am sure this has been asked a 1000 times, but if Chelsea win the FA Cup replay against Everton, the Chelsea V Man U fixture is off on 1st March?

Does Thomas rather than Brunt make sense for WBA DGW? Thomas seems to be in much better dorm.

Brunt is the better player IMO (and on set pieces etc)...so im going with him i think. cant decide whether odem is a better bet though...

I was mulling this over a lot today. Opta stats show that Brunt's recent 2-pointers are a bit misleading: He's beating Thomas and Morrison on goal attempts, key passes, thru balls, touches... sometimes by a fair margin. Brunt's your man (statistically).

Nail in the coffin was when SuperDorrans (i think that's his name) was on hear earlier and he said that Thomas is frustrating to watch -- never quite closes the deal.

Pretty much the same as my non-WC team, but I got the funds to upgrade Adam to Cahill next week. I have the same fron 8, I just have Rafa and Kelly for Johnson and Simpson, and Harper for Foster.

        At least. 😉

Nah, a 4 point hit can get me:

        Begovic
        Kolarov Coleman Baines
        Brunt Adam Nani Cahill
        Tevez Odemwingie

It's only ten, but it's still fairly strong. May lose RVP too, only if I'm feeling ballsy...
