This double Gameweek conundrum has had us in its grip. Its wicked little game, complicated by an evil blank for three teams in Gameweek 28 has “twisted our melons” and left us firing questions into the ether in vain hope that clarity would show itself. Everything is still blurry.

We’ve done our best over the past few days to bring you a breakdown of the options available, laced with our opinion on the best routes to take. Our “Scouting the Doubles” articles will close tonight with West Brom completing the set of eight. Those, together with Andy’s Captain Poll article and Big Dunc’s “Spot the Differentials” (coming tomorrow), not to mention this week’s ScoutCast, complete possibly the most thorough analysis of teams and players we’ve cobbled together prior to a Gameweek deadline.

You now add the Scout Picks to the mix, although, in the light of this week’s coverage, I’m not about to cover the same ground with more player-by-player analysis, re-affirming the facts, stats and speculation. I won’t leave you hanging high and dry either though.

Selecting a Scout Pick lineup in a double Gameweek scenario is never easy. The obvious candidates stand out like Nikola Zigic at a Jimmy Krankie convention – you can’t ignore them and they’re always likely to use their size once the cling flim comes off the buffet.

Only one non-double Gameweek player finds his way into the lineup . Liverpool’s quest for their fifth clean sheet has them host the woefully inconsistent Wigan at Anfield and that’s a good enough prospect for me to snatch one of their defence. Even this was far from cut and dry. With Martin Kelly a slight injury doubt, I was forced to opt for Glen Johnson – a more expensive, but equally expansive option who can offer defensive and attacking returns.

Elsewhere, the familiar lack of clean sheet potential made it difficult to look beyond even the flimsiest double Gameweek prospects.

Michael Dawson and Gonzalo Jara get the nod because the prospect of 4 appearance points outweigh the option of hoping for a clean sheet from the United defence without Rio Ferdinand against rivals City, or perhaps backing Chris Samba at home to Newcastle.

Jara looks every inch like fools gold, but today’s appointment of Roy Hodgson pushed me to take a gamble on the Baggies rearguard for at least their second home clash with rivals Wolves. You never know, Jara may even return that assist that his OPTA stats appear to threaten.

In midfield the selection was made more difficult by the blank in Gameweek 28 – do I consider the problems this causes or simply select those who offer the best returns?

The strategy is always to select the top scorers for the Gameweek, so Tottenham’s Aaron Lennon, Birmingham’s Craig Gardner and of course, Cesc Fabregas all earn their place. Charlie Adam, edges out West Brom’s Chris Brunt to the bench despite the yellow card sword of Damocles hanging over him.

Kevin Nolan is nowhere to be seen – I’ve left him at home staring at his Andy Carroll scrapbook. Ashley Young? Yeah, tempted, but I’ll leave him rewinding his bit against Denmark on Sky plus. Villa and Young should return at Blackpool though.

Talking of which, Darren Bent almost made it in up front. In the end the obvious silken skills of Robin Van Persie and the pacey menace of Peter Odemwingie, has them on the bus and in the team.

The aforementioned Nikola Zigic gets the bench spot – provided he takes off those stupid school shorts and cap.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Is it silly to play Carlos Vela over Carlos Tevez.

    That thought of Tevez doing nothing at 1430 is frustating me. Vela will have 2 easy games. If I knew Vela would play 60mins in both games I think I would go for Vela.

    On the 606 on bbc, alot of the posters seem to have Vela in the starting line-up.

    Foster

    Coleman / Kelly / Double gameweek defender up to 7.5, prob Huth/RJ

    Fab / VDV / Cahill / Walcott / Nani

    RVP / Odem

    bench: Kolorov / Tevez / Walker

    Torn between Huth and Roger Johnson, any better options?

    I'm on WC, team value is 110.7 and I'm seeking everyone's advice, what you reckon Bojan? :mrgreen:

    Foster(Begovic)
    RJohnson, Huth, Kelly(Coleman, Kolarov)
    Fabregas, Nani, Adam, Walcott, Barton
    RVP, Odemwingie(Tevez)

    GW28, Cahill and A. Young in for Adam/Walcott and Fabregas.

    Good move or suicide? I could be fcked in gw 28 since 6 players could miss out. What do you guys think?

        But I can make up for that because I can play so many big hitters who have DGW(see Arsenal players, Adam, RJ, Huth and Odem)

        But the question is: Is it worth it even if my team in gw28 is weakened.

        If all goes to plan I will get 100 points in the DGW and I can still play this team in gw28(4point hit)

        Begovic
        Coleman, Kelly, Huth, Kolarov
        Young, Cahill, Adam, Nani
        Tevez Odemwingie

              i'm getting cahill for adam, but everton not playing twice anymore this week so only two games for cahill in that time

              my mid:

              vdv/fab/cahill/walcott/nani

              I think man utd will keep a cleam sheet n it'll be 0-0 or they will win.

              i think mancini will not wanna lose again to a big team so will be defensive and man u will try their balls off to make sure they don't lose

              if anyone's gonna score it'll be fletcher or park!

    I am surprisingly drawn towards Cahill as I finalise my wildcard, despite my worries that he will not have recovered from his Asia Cup exertions. What tipped the balance was news of Saha's injury - Beckford doesn't have the quality to step up, leaving Cahill as the main source of goal threat as he was before his break. Reluctantly sacrificing Walcott, as I have Schezeney and RvP and three Arsenal (with GW28 in mind) seems too many

      I dont get the whole G.Johnson bit but Lennon should be worth a punt. If Spurs are gonna score, he's most likely going to be the reason. Plus it leaves him open to grab the bonus points with VDV and Bale gone.

      "the selection was made more difficult by the blank in Gameweek 28 – do I consider the problems this causes or simply select those who offer the best returns?

      The strategy is always to select the top scorers for the Gameweek"

    R.Johnson or Dawson for wildcard team?

    Got Foster in goal so worth doubling up or go with Dawson?

        Go with Dawson my feeling is doubling up on any defence is always dangerous

        Although both would miss GW28 Johnson then has a DGW in GW29. Birmingham players are more of a conundrum than Arsenal it seems..

      RJ = two home games.
      Dawson = two away games.

      Both missing in the next GW

    wise words for all(in my mental head anyway)...and i gotta get off this now, off out for bevvies, so imparting my thoughts on the week;

    on vdv- smart move is to play him, cos most will sell, and hell prob play v blackpool, who are letting in alot of goals. harry will play him, and he has alot of recovery time.

    on fabs v rvp;

    rvp is on pens, most shot free kicks, alot of corners, most crossing free kicks, and he's scored alot lately. Fabs is deeper, wants to go to spain and hasnt celebrated hardly at all when his team has scored. He doesnt look to give a shit. Course he may score big, but in the captain debate, for me, theres only one winner -rvp (odem if you think rvp will be rotated)

    on tevez/nani/vidic

    This might be way out of tonight's topics...but was thinking about it for long time and realised one thing about Kolarov/Manchini connection...
    While playing - Manchini played with serbian defender - Sinisa Mihajlovic who was defender but very good free kick taker/corners (legendary in Calcio)...etc...think he got a bit sentimental when he signed Kolarov for - to be honest - rediculous fee - on Mihailovic's recomendation, who was Manchini's right hand for a while in coaching stuff back in Italy...
    Don't get me wrong - I have him in my team and I've been very patient with him, hoping for best, getting all this 1 pointers and now when he scored big - bandwagon...I like my country man, but excercise caution...Manchini is very stubborn (Italian), but at some point he might loose the patience - coz Kolarov has been awfull in his defensive tasks...cost City few points...

      I think there was that time, a couple of weeks ago, but then Kolarov started belting in free kicks and successfully playing as a winger. And they got a CS. So I think he's ok for a bit, but you never know with City.

    Young or Lennon this week? Going for Lennon I'd have to spend 4 points next week but he has a double
