Chelsea square up to a schedule that could potentially resurrect their early season form. Villa and Sunderland meanwhile, can look to their forthcoming run of opponents for consolation as they look to halt a slippery slide into a relegation dogfight. A host of other sides aren’t so lucky, facing a fixtures that curdles the milk in the half-time cuppa.

Set your Season Tickers to stun as we “Frisk the Fixtures” one more time…

The Highs…

Chelsea
If Chelsea’s next three gameweeks were a department store they’d be Harrods (minus any Michael Jackson effigies). Quite simply, they are a top of the range selection, reminiscent of the kind of run they enjoyed to open their season; we all know how that turned out (pretty darn well).

With consecutive home games against Wigan, Birmingham (this game tied to a double-gameweek trip to West Brom) and West Ham approaching, Fantasy investment in the Chelsea squad is surely going to gather pace.

Frank Lampard is probably over-priced in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) at 12.9 but takes penalties and is the only heavyweight who can be relied upon to start all those matches. Didier Drogba, Nicolas Anelka, Fernando Torres and even Salomon Kalou are scrapping for the striking positions; take a gamble on one of those and it may well come up trumps, but it would certainly be a risk. At the back meanwhile, David Luiz will continue to rocket in price given that he is ineligible for European matches. He looks the most assured defensive choice, despite his showing at the Britannia, with a little Brazilian flair thrown in.

Sunderland
Sunderland are a bit of an enigma right now – they’ve not scored a goal in over 400 minutes, they may have lost their best defender (no really) for the rest of the season and are a point or two from the safety of the Premier League middle ground.

The fixtures, however, could not have fallen better for them. The next six games [WBA, bir, WIG, FUL, bol, WLV] look very appetising and, in ordinary circumstances, promise returns at both ends of the field. Steve Bruce’s side will need to regain a semblance of form before we can invest with any real confidence however – without that, the Black Cats are a risk.

The loss of Titus Bramble will dent credentials in the clean sheet department but the likes of John Mensah, Phil Bardsley and recent Watchlist candidate Simon Mignolet will still be contenders to consider here.

The strike pairing of penalty-taking enigma Asamoah Gyan and bargain basement loanee Danny Welbeck, are perhaps more likely to attract immediate interest – particularly if there are shoots of recovery on show against the Baggies at he weekend.

Aston Villa
Gerard Houllier’s side stick around then – still boasting a fixture list that promises to deliver an end of season sting. Their next five games [NEW, whm, STK, wba, WIG] have to be classified as one of the best run of opponents around, keeping their squad assets firmly in our mind, despite Villa’s current flirtation with relegation.

The 2-2 draw with Everton had more than a few talking points but most encouragingly for Fantasy Managers, we saw key Villa investments play their part. Darren Bent bagged both goals to flash back up on radars, while Stewart Downing and Ashley Young took it in turns to play provider. Those willing to back a defensive recovery meanwhile can of course also consider Kyle Walker – shaky on Saturday, the raiding right-back remains a steal in Fantasy terms.

Also to consider: Birmingham – a couple of moderate fixtures surround a double, followed by strong run-in to come. Blackburn – the draw at Arsenal was a much-needed boost and now the horizon looks promising; Junior Hoillett certainly presents a decent option. Blackpool – four crucial consecutive home matches will surely decide the fate of Ian Holloway’s side.

The Lows…

West Ham
The Hammers had been on the road to recovery but the nature of the 4-2 defeat to United on Saturday is a concern. The second-half collapse may well have knocked the veritable stuffing out of a West Ham side that continues to face few favours from the fixture list.

Trips to Bolton, Chelsea and Man City in the next four weeks present very sizable obstacles which will require the Hammers to regain defensive steel and for Demba Ba and Thomas Hitzlsperger to provide the quality in attacking terms. Fantasy Managers seem unlikely to throw their support behind the cause.

Stoke
The temptation with Stoke is to sit on the likes of Robert Huth and Matt Etherington for the next couple of gameweeks, with a double fixture in gameweek 34 looming. A trip to Spurs comes next, followed by a gameweek 33 blank. The double header with Villa and Wolves is the key however, and Huth owners may well hold firm with more pressing transfers required elsewhere.

The problem here is that, following the double fixture, Stoke’s prospects remain pretty glum. With Arsenal and City up next, clean sheets look unlikely and Huth will likely be required to add to his already impressive goal tally if he is to offer value. Stoke continue to impress at home and, in these games, we may see some continued attacking profit, but there appears to be far stronger potential to be found elsewhere.

Liverpool
Kenny Dalglish’s men have a faint hope of stealing fifth place and will equally do their utmost to hold off Everton’s charge up the table. The red side of Merseyside face an uneasy run-in however, and will need to maintain results in the face of some testing fixtures.

Two gameweeks at home to Birmingham and Newcastle in the middle of this period might be considered respite, but the four games around them in particular (MCY, ars, ful, TOT) are far from kind to Liverpool’s top five prospects.

Andy Caroll has gained over 160,000 new owners in recent weeks, Fantasy Managers who are clearly tipping the big centre-forward to recapture his consistent form in black and white stripes. Those considering the Geordie striker, and his supremely talented striker partner Luis Suarez, may wish to mull over the fixture list a little more before preparing investment.

Be wary of: Newcastle – Alan Pardew’s side look safe but with United at home and trips to Liverpool and Chelsea to come, the Magpies may struggle to continue their table climb. Man City – two potentially troubling away games sandwiching a blank fixture means lifeboats are being manned for a short-term Fantasy exodus.

Probably gonna save the transfer this week, but if so, which of these is best for GW33?

    A) Kolarov & Fabs -> Lampard & Carr
    B) Kolarov, Fabs & VDV -> Terry, Lampard & Adam (4 points)
    C) Coleman, Nani & Fabs -> Terry, Lampard & Walcott (4 points)
    D) Coleman, Nani & Fabs -> Terry, Lampard & Adam (4 points)
    E) Kolarov, Nasri & Nani -> Carr, Lampard & Adam (4 points)

    Current team is:

    Foster, Stockdale
    Baines, Luiz, Coleman, Kolarov, Kelly
Fabregas, Nani, VDV, A Young, Nasri
    RVP, Welbeck, Zigic

Don't you drive yourself crazy? You're on here every day with a different plan or two or three, usually a 4 week one that you invariably abandon the moment the GW is over!

I would say there's definitely harm in making transfers based on a 4 week plan then immediately abandoning that plan.

That's always the case. I think United have a good case to at least reduce the ban to a game and I reckon the FA know this which is why these gave a 2 game ban rather than a 1.

            I disagree, fixtures do matter,

            Rooney - Everton, Arsenal, Chelsea.
Tevez - Blackburn, West Ham, Everton.

I know who i'd rather have.

Dudley Campbell is the one if you can afford to bench him this week. 3 home games against Wigan, Newcastle and Stoke, he's already scored against two and didn't play against the other. He then has Tottenham who he's also scored against, although i'll probably bench him for that one.

Glad to have your support! We have raided Scotland a fair bit, Burke and McCormack (not with us now) both used to be at Rangers. And McNaughton is from Aberdeen, he's been our most consistent player for a few years.

McNaughton was always one i thought i had a bright future. Burkes a bit hit and miss I loved McCormack and thought he was destend to be great but ego got the better of him. i remember him scoring vs Inter to put us through in the CL. Have you's still got Rae?

Rae is still here, but he's about 8th choice centre mid now. He was close to a move to Leeds in January, apparently, though I don't think he really has the quality of the top half of the Championship. Burke's one of the most popular players we have, fans love him, but he's had a quiet season because of a virus that he couldn't shake. Returning to his old self now.

True, I've decided already next season, no more than 2/3 players who are unproven in the Premiership, it's way too risky.

I havent checked but I bet I'd have been in the top 1K this week if i hadn't done Rooney & Young -> Fabregas & Carroll.

That top 1K is becoming illusive for me, so close last year, flirted with it on a Saturday this season, but not been their by the end of the GW tho, I hope I can do it.

Can I tempt you all with a piece of Gary McSheffrey then? 17 goals 19 assists in the Championship 06/07. I bought him for 6.5 at the start of next season and managed to captain him in the game Ronaldo was sent off at Portsmouth for that dodgy headbutt.

Awful week for me, transfers were distracted by the forthcoming DGW, school boy error. Im wondering what percentage of those who own Drogba are actualy still playing the bloody game. Am considering going with him over Frank, madness I know but could he actualy be a differential or even take a punt on Anelka, no maybe I am losing it.

When do we find out if Rooney is appealing the 2 match ban? Is it by 6.00pm today, or midnight?

If it does get reduced to 1 match, would give Rooney a rest v Fulham before the CL 2nd leg - pain in the arse in Fantasy terms, but could be a blessing in disguise for Utd.

Pretty sure they can just leave it at a 2-match ban, even if we do appeal. Uts's lawyers (do you take lawyers to an FA appeal?) would argue it's a test case, seeing as how the FA have never banned anyone for this offence before (mainly because no-one has committed it before).

        yep.

If we appeal it's either more or less.

No appeal, 2 match ban it is (Captain obvious)

i've been losing ground this past few months and i can't understand it.... Can anyone see the problem?

    Foster, kingson

    Luiz, coleman, kolarov, walker, bardsley
    Fabregas, nani, vdv, nasri, osman,
    Tevez, rvp, carroll
    0.8 in bank.

I was thinkin on doing tevez to welbeck and osman to lampard. 4 pt hit. I'd be playing all five midfielders every week i'd guess.

Just unlucky that Nani, Fabs, VDV, Nasri, RVP and Carroll all mis-fired on the same weekend. And that Tevez got relatively few points in a 5-0.

      Doubt it'll happen again.

So what's the reaction in the United camp at Nani not being nominated for PFA player of the year AP? I find it strange, he's the clear frontrunner in the race for the prestigious Gargamel player of the year award.

Likewise with the Jamsiep player of the Year award. 😉

It would be literally the best thing ever if Adam/Parker win it, and then Blackpool/West Ham go down. I'd have an absolute field day.

If Bale wins it then I'll lose all faith with humanity.

No idea, my only view on a 'player of the year' award is that the best player of the season should win it.

Rooney, Ronaldox2, Gerrard, Terry, Roy Keane have won it and they're not very nice either are they? The first three of them are also serial divers.

That's not the way it works though, its more subjective than that. 30% of it is a popularity vote too unless the player is so outstanding (C.Ronaldo) that it would be a farce to ignore.
I think Nani has been excellent too, but not in the least suprised that he wasn't nominated as I wouldn't think he is overly liked by his fellow professionals.

i think there's 2 types of bandwagons, bandwagons after a big score and bandwagons based on potential. i don't mind the bandwagons based on potential (jimenez, boselli, kolarov) as they make sense and one of the biggest draws for them is a cheap price tag so it's not too bad when they go tits up.

Oh I love them. Can't wait to get on another one next season.

The best part of them is that 3 points from a bandwagon player you've scouted feels so much better than 8 points form a player lots of players have.

agree. that so much sweeter when the player is unique to you. 2 seasons ago i started the season with riga and zaki. 1 was tragic, 3 weeks later every single person in my league had zaki. you win some you lose some. i enjoyed end of the summer transfer window here and seeing people gamble on new signings. think it was andy as one of the only people who went for VDV from the off and i was one of the only ones with ben arfa. VDV went home with a brace of goals whilst ben afra went home with a brace on his leg

Carroll and the aforementioned Van Der Vaart car starter in their first week.

Getting new players with the aforementioned 'potential' is much more exciting - and also more acceptable when they fail, because they're unknowns - that I'm willing to get Boselli's that fail spectacularly as well as Hitzlspergers that start brightly.

True Andy. I remember you getting VDV, I think I was #teamBale back then - didn't stay that way for long.
Shows what a bad FPL season I'm having that I'm looking forward to next season already, Ben Arfa will be first on the list (if we stay up) and Taarabt might be good too.

Just got to go with instinct sometimes. After Elmander scored well near the start of the season I was going to get him instead of Caroll as my cheapy striker. I was talked out of it by a Bolton fan (ex) friend of mine as he didn't think he would go on a scoring run.

How wrong he was. I suppose going for Caroll wasn't a bad thing but I had a hunch about Elmander and didn't go for it!

Could be an option, especially as the other Newcastle players who have been good this season are likely to be priced higher.

    Current team.

    Mignolet

    Coleman Kolarov Smalling Walker

    Adam VDV Young Nasri Nani

    RVP (C)

    Subs: Begovic Carr Zamora Rooney

I got Zamora in on the hope that I'd get no injuries or bans, and Rooney has kind of screwed that. My subs were going to be Luiz and Lampard in for Young and Kolarov but I'm not so sure it's worth it now, what do you think? If I went for VDV out instead of Young then I could get rid of Rooney for Drogba (or Torres if I went for Young), anyone else triping on Chelsea and hoping for the best?

I probably wouldn't want Rooney back if he gets a 2 game ban anyway.

It's because people feel it's a risk if the team in question don't do well.

And it is, it's just in the longer run not a bigger risk than having players from different teams.

I think when ur playing games where GW scores, rather than totals, matter, then diversity wins out, unless there is a clump of good fixtures. A blank by arsenal might mean being knocked out of the fantasy cup, or losing more H2H games, even if the overall score isnt impacted negatively.

            I myself would prefer 50, 50 rather than 30, 70 for instance.

O so with defenders I agree. But with attackers, the team could do well but only one of those players does well, and you don't know which one.

Maybe van Persie gets 2 goals 1 week, nasri gets 2 goals the next week. You couldn't have known which one to have the week before either of this games.

Also they can both do well in one game or both do badly in an arsenal win.

With defenders they're linked, but even then over the season I think it evens out

I'd have thought it was obvious why people spread the risk. It is called diversification 🙂

I think the point is that people are trying to get the 1 stand-out player from a particular team, rather than playing a guessing game and getting both

It really depends on your other players to be honest and if you're missing out on players from other games. I generally like to spread my players but if teams are on good form and/or have good fixtures theres no problem with doubling or triping. I have Nasri and RVP and am tempted to go for 3 Chelsea as well.

My Premier League Player of the Season Top 5. Bear in mind it might be a little subjective.

    5) Jonas Gutierrez
    4) Coloccini
    3) Jose Enrique
    2) Cheik Tiote
    1) Joey Barton.

Honourable Mention to Hatem Ben Arfa and Kevin Nolan who narrowly missed out on the award list.

Plenty of Newcastle fans agree with you and think he doesn't produce the goods often enough. I look at what he brings to the team though, he is a brilliant defensive winger in that he works hard to cover the fullback and is a great outlet.
I think he is class. He works really well with Enrique and looked after Ferguson on Saturday

I won't put them in an order but I'd have to go with a 9 of

        Bale
        Kompany
        Vidic
        Nasri
        Nani
        Holden
        Adam
        Tiote
        Foster

Birmingham aren't in a great position but it would probably be even worse without Foster. He's made a lot of very good saves and kept Birmingham in games on countless occassions.

Adam - this is going to get a lot of hate but what can I say I love Ollie, Adam and Blackpool!

RVP would be in there I reckon if he hadn't got injured, he's been immense since returning.
