The team statistics section of the OPTA data available to Members can easily be overlooked. There’s just so much information to mined on players, Members will be forgiven for failing to take in the statistics measuring team performance.

In this week’s Numbers Game, we take a look at that team data for the weekend and trace some patterns and trends which could shape our team selections for the season run-in.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Who's putting their money where their mouth is tonight then?

Thinking of parting with a few pounds but not sure where just yet!

0-1 tonight to United, I see us keeping a clean sheet, and I see us nicking a goal aswell. If Rio plays it is a huge boost for confidence in general.

Nice post by the way, Mark. I'm very concerned about Sunderland's attacking threat at the minute. Welbeck on paper seems a very sensible and budget option given their run in, but the stats don't make particuarly pleasent reading. I'd guess there's plenty out there considering him. It almost makes it a "blind" transfer not knowing how they'll go into the easier fixtures. Here's hoping they can pick up some form.

Thinking back to the start of the season, man I did some bad things

I always had players who would 'solidify my midfield' or have an 'extra cheap defender who hardly plays', i look at my team now and I know they can all do well, nice

Price dictates that though. With 100.0 you can't afford 15 good players, you need to unearth 1 or 2 4.0 gems to be able to get the players you want.

    a) Bale

Hmm...think I agree with you on that one.

That said, I had the same guys with VDV instead of Bale and got rid of Young to bring in Lampard. I guess what I'm saying is, I fancy Spurs to have a more profitable run in the next few but but over the course of the same fixtures I still fancy Young to outscore Bale (but not VDV)! 🙂

the problem with Young is you just know as soon as you take him out that he will be consistant pain in the ass, like when you take any player out and watch Gillette Soccer Saturday only to see Aston Villa 2 - Newcastle 0 - (Young 11 (pen), 56) and kick yourself, despite recent returns I think he just has too much potential to remove, he is always close to an assist or goal in every game and I think they may be finding their feet again up front.

Nasri or VDV are the candidates at the top of my list for removal.

+1. Young's a keeper (no poor jokes about him being a midfielder, please). Frustrating he may be, but he's got potential for some very impressive scores. Particularly with the fixtures Villa have.

To be honest the only reason I'm not binning Nasri now is Blackpool then DGW.

        I like Young's fixtures.

    Hart/Foster
    Carr/Luiz/Coleman/Djourou/Jose Enrique
    Duff/VDV/Adam/Nani/Silva
    RVP/Carroll/Rooney

    I was thinking Hart-Cech & Djourou-Wheater this week then Coleman-Shawcross & Enrique-Salcido in GW34.

What are peoples thoughts? Does this look a good plan or am I going about it he wrong way? Does my midfield need any changes? I'm happy to wait on Rooney until he completes his suspension.

Forget about shawcross and salcido, one of them at most as both their fixtures suck after the dgw.
In your shoes I would consider silva & hart to walcott & schwarzer/begovic (to play in dgw34 and gw38). I'm thinking that should free up enough to do vdv to lamps in gw33? Then maybe walcott to o'hara in gw34

    Dilema time:
My rival (30 points ahead) swapped Tevez for Rooney early Monday (lol) and has a front 2 of RvP & Rooney (and Best as a 3rd who he may have also swapped for a budget striker)

I have Rooney & Tevez at the mo plus Wellbeck.

    Do I:

    1) Swap Rooney for RvP
    2) Play Tevez & Wellbeck or a 4-5-1 and keep Rooney for his return?
    3) Swap Tevez for RvP and play formation as above?

Yeah, Tevez has scored 7 in his last 8 PL games, Rooney 8 in 8. I'd be a bit worried that Tevez only got 6 points in a 5-0 win, and has looked jaded and been injured.

Got a bit of a problem this week with Nolan suspended and Zigic possibly out. Also will have taken a 4 pt hit already to get Lmaps in. Considering one of:

    A. Nolan - Adam
    B. Zigic - Carroll (or other cheapie)
    C. Avoid the hit and play Coleman away to Wolves.

having that amount tied up in a defender that your rival whos 77pts ahead has isnt ideal

evertons clean sheet potential isnt great so id get rid n hope he doesnt take many more pens - arteta will be back soon too

    Foster Begovic
    Baines Coleman Kolarov Carr Djourou
    Nani VDV Nasri Adam Thomas
    Rooney RVP Welbeck

    Can't decide between

    1) Baines to 4.6 def, Thomas to Lamps
    2) VDV to Jarvis/O'Hara, Thomas to Lamps
both for a 4 point hit

Also, is it worth doing Kolarov to Luiz for another 4 points?

Problem is, that leaves me with 2 Everton defenders, who are both relying on attacking points (1 clean sheet in the last 14 games for Eve).

Baines was supposed to be a 2 or 3 week punt with the double in GW29 and a couple of nice fixtures, but he keeps racking up the points.

fair enough. I'm banking the cash till next week personally as vdv could well outscore fatty this week. Wouldn't be confident lamps scoring 4+ more than vdv. Also gives the option of swapping nani or nasri instead of vdv if one of them pulls up injured, nani has 3 matches between the gw32 and 33 deadlines.

No worries mate. Gotta get aboard with luiz I reckon. Fpl gold with his fixtures. Thomas to O'hara and coleman to luiz this week and vdv to fatty next week would probably be what I'd go for. Not taking hits for a defender makes sense normally but in this case it's 3 games vs 2 and as you say it's 3 trades over 2 weeks for -4 no matter which order you do it. Coleman(wol) & lamps(WIG) or luiz(WIG) & VDV(STO) this week.

I've got £20 with a mate that Rooney will outscore Torres over the 2 legs, and gonna put a bit on Utd to qualify, too - as you say, evens is a great price.

Not quite sure why the bookies have Chelsea as favourites to go through - our head-to-head record with them isn't that good, I suppose.
