Earlier this morning, Southampton’s official twitter feed were first to give Fantasy managers the heads-up of a potential double Gameweek 22. The Saints’ previously postponed trip to Chelsea – cancelled due to the latter’s World Club Championship involvement last month – has now been pencilled in for Wednesday January 16.

Whether the league clash takes place all depends on the result of tomorrow’s FA Cup Third Round match between the two clubs. If the game ends all square, the above-mentioned date will be utilised for a cup replay and the league match rescheduled for another, as yet unspecified, time – if either side win, the double Gameweek will take place.

The news now adds an unexpected twist to the winter wildcard scenario. We could now, potentially, have back-to-back double Gameweeks to plan for, bearing in mind Arsenal and West Ham have a double the following week.

Southampton also visit Villa in Gameweek 22 and, while Chelsea face a testing trip to Stoke, there’s no doubt the home clash at the Bridge looks enticing, in spite of the Blues’ surprise loss to QPR last Wednesday. Indeed, Rafa Benitez’s decision to hand Juan Mata and Eden Hazard brief second-half sub roles against Harry Redknapp’s side should ensure they both start tomorrow’s match – boosting the Blues’ chances of progress.

Demba Ba’s move to Stamford Bridge – confirmed at midday by the Blues – brings him immediately onto the radar. At this moment, Ba is still classified as a Newcastle player in Fantasy games, meaning managers could conceivably, have four Blues players for the double if they choose to load up on Benitez’s side – a very risky tactic, however, given we’ll be wanting Arsenal and West Ham options in our squads immediately afterwards. The likes of Ross Turnbull could also come into the equation, offering us a cut-price short-term keeper option if Petr Cech remains sidelined.

While nothing is set in stone yet, the news at least shakes up our tactics and offers plenty variety to our approaches – undoubtedly good news, given the many identikit RMWCT posts currently doing the rounds.

All eyes on St Mary’s tomorrow afternoon, then.

Not too keen on your keepers, as after Cech is back will you really want to play Jaas every week? Defence is mentally cheap. Demel and Mariappa aren't nailed on I don't think, Nelsen won't keep many clean sheets at all. I would be tempted to downgrade Mata to Michu and then upgrade Pogrebynyak to Ba for DGW and then Ba to Berbatov long term.

No Mata for DGW sounds crazy, could downgrade Suarez to Lambert and work on defence. Once Cech/Wilson/Shorey are back i'm thinking Turnbull->Fed Mariappa->a starting Reading defender and Demel->Wilson.

True, I have Mata in my WC team for DGW, though he may only play one game. Like the Wilson choice, I would want Begovic. Also, what are you planning on doing for Arsenal DGW?

Quick thought on Wisdom - with Sturrige coming in and Downing having to fight with Sterling (+suso) for one spot, isn't there a chance that he drops back into defense again?

Given our 3 away matches in the next 4 he'll want the better defender so Wisdom I think will get the nod. But either way, I'm struggling to see why someone would want to buy in a liverpool defender right now. I'm considering ditching Johnson this week, can see many points in the next 4.

Every week will be like this once we all WC. Could the new challenge and intrigue in FPL be switching from ownership (accumulating the best players with your money) to managing (selecting the right 11 to play at exactly the right time)?
Is the obsession w which big 7 (352 v 343) really an act of avoiding tough choices?

Rafa Benitez: "Two or three players have been playing too many games in the last weeks and months"

    Torres 1706 mins
    Ivanovic 1669 mins

Ivanovic seems nailed on. Cech is only out because of injury.

Torres prime suspect followed by Hazard. Feel like Benitez is more interested in rotating his front five but no one is safe ultimately.

    WISDOM

Although he will start I don't think he's actually a good WC option unfortunately.

Looking forward 6 or maybe even 7 weeks that only takes us to GW26/27.

You'd only want to play Wisdom in GW23 and you might get away with GW26, possibly GW27.

Around that time you won't be able to afford him not playing with all the CL rotation starting to come into effect.

Yeah, wouldn't lose him for Sturridge at least. Defoe could be gold if Adebayor travels to ACON.

because of rafatation im staying clear of chelsea and seeing as they have alot of cup games its wise.

    My WC team

    Hart

    Baines Johnson Clark

    Walcott Gerrard Pablo Bale

    RVP Fletcher Lambert

subs - Gazzaniga Guthrie Davies Shaw

I think its a good balanced squad

    good goalie
    strong defence
good mids and a few diffs in there
    good forward line

    look ok ?

For the arsenal DGW anyone tempted by oxlade-chamberlain for a cheeky punt? Starting regularly and getting some shots.
Already have Caz and Walcott is out of reach financially.

Nah - Giroud may well start one or both of those games putting the Ox on the bench. If you are after cheap Arsenal fwrds Wilshire is the only real option

Anyone fancy going against the grain and having a punt on Hazard instead of Mata if the Chelsea DGW goes ahead? He loved the DGW at the start of the season.
