Earlier this morning, Southampton’s official twitter feed were first to give Fantasy managers the heads-up of a potential double Gameweek 22. The Saints’ previously postponed trip to Chelsea – cancelled due to the latter’s World Club Championship involvement last month – has now been pencilled in for Wednesday January 16.

Whether the league clash takes place all depends on the result of tomorrow’s FA Cup Third Round match between the two clubs. If the game ends all square, the above-mentioned date will be utilised for a cup replay and the league match rescheduled for another, as yet unspecified, time – if either side win, the double Gameweek will take place.

The news now adds an unexpected twist to the winter wildcard scenario. We could now, potentially, have back-to-back double Gameweeks to plan for, bearing in mind Arsenal and West Ham have a double the following week.

Southampton also visit Villa in Gameweek 22 and, while Chelsea face a testing trip to Stoke, there’s no doubt the home clash at the Bridge looks enticing, in spite of the Blues’ surprise loss to QPR last Wednesday. Indeed, Rafa Benitez’s decision to hand Juan Mata and Eden Hazard brief second-half sub roles against Harry Redknapp’s side should ensure they both start tomorrow’s match – boosting the Blues’ chances of progress.

Demba Ba’s move to Stamford Bridge – confirmed at midday by the Blues – brings him immediately onto the radar. At this moment, Ba is still classified as a Newcastle player in Fantasy games, meaning managers could conceivably, have four Blues players for the double if they choose to load up on Benitez’s side – a very risky tactic, however, given we’ll be wanting Arsenal and West Ham options in our squads immediately afterwards. The likes of Ross Turnbull could also come into the equation, offering us a cut-price short-term keeper option if Petr Cech remains sidelined.

While nothing is set in stone yet, the news at least shakes up our tactics and offers plenty variety to our approaches – undoubtedly good news, given the many identikit RMWCT posts currently doing the rounds.

All eyes on St Mary’s tomorrow afternoon, then.

Sorry Berbilly missed your post on last page but definitely think Tremmel + Silva > Turnbull and Hazard is well worth it if the DGW is indeed on. I'll probably be doing the same with Gazzaniga + Silva mysel!

Cheers, did you see the other options lower down? Both (-8)

      a) Michu, Baker and Silva –> Hazard, Azpi and Nolan
      b) Michu, Jones/JOB, and Silva –> Mata, Azpi and Nolan

Do either of those tickle your fancy?

There's not much in either of those really. Would prefer Mata though out of the two personally. Are you losing a lot on Michu? Plan on getting him back in?

    Afternoon all!

Hope you are all enjoying 2013 so far. Thought i'd just shamelessly flaunt my current ranking and thank you all for any help and advice you have given me over the last few weeks - Namely O'Brien over Demel last week which turned out to be a master stroke. That combined with my (-4) to bring in Walcott and my holding on to Bale the week before have served to propel me from the despair of 270,000 to my current 28,000 rank, so thank you.

Lots of things floating around about the next few weeks. It really does make decisions increasingly difficult and exciting - especially as I am still in the cup. trying to balance the cup, h2h mini leagues and my overall ranking is what makes this game so fantastic.

I'm aiming for 3 arsenal (Walcott, Sagna and Cazorla/Podolski) and 2 west ham (O'brien (?) or another defender and Nolan) for that gameweek, then the prospect of having to field another 5 double gameweekers the week after (!!) is an enticing and difficult prospect. Mata, Luiz, maybe even Cech all stand out to me. Lets hope for some more flurry in the transfer window to make all this even more chaotic 🙂

*PROBABLY NONSENSE BUT I'M GOING TO SHARE MY THOUGHTS*

To the people who were considering playing 352 and going with the 'POWER 5' but were waiting until after the dgw.

You can practically make the same wildcard team as planned, but still get good dgw coverage.

For example, go with the big 5 midfielders but switch Bale to Hazard, then use your free to do Hazard to Cazorla (after Chelsea's dgw), and then use your free to do Cazorla to Bale (after Arsenal's dgw).

So effectively you end up with the team that you planned, but still get great coverage for the dgws.

So for DGW1 you could have Sagna/Gibbs, Walcott, Cazorla and Demel

And for DGW2 you could have Azpil, Mata, Hazard and Clyne

Apologies if that is tough reading, probably not written too well.

    Repost, correcting Arsenal players:

Think I might have Lambert, Puncheon, Turnbull, Mata and Torres for this DGW.

Then Jussi, Reid, C Cole, Gibbs, Walcott and Giroud for the next one.

Can't see any flaws with it. Can see you coming out the other side with a very impressive ranking (injuries aside).

I'd be doing the same if my team had the same backbone. I'd stay clear of Azpil, personally, and does that leave you with Turnbull? Or have I misread that. Don't think he's a long-term option.

To be fair, nothing I've done this season has been right, so you can take my advice with a grain of salt.

Gonna go against the grain here.

I rate Ba over Suarez over the next four (or five if DGW for Ba). Yes Suarez is in top form, but tough fixtures ahead (Utd, City & Arsenal all away) apart from Norwich at home. Also I'm not sure about the introduction of Strurridge - two of the most selfish players in the FPL playing together, could well end in tears. Suarez will also now start getting his rest - Norwich?

Ba on the overhand will take over top spot for a team that create chances for fun, and he is also in top form. And be out to prove a point.

I reckon Ba will out score Suarez over the next four GWs. Shoot me down.....

Suarez has been limping of the pitch for three games in a row now. He will be given a rest, probably against Norwich.

I simply don't see Ba walking in and taking more than 50% of games when Rafa was very obviously brought in to get Torres firing again. And I definitely don't see them playing together.

The only alternative I see is that Rafa was brought in to get Torres in better shape for the shop window, but that would only have made sense if they hadn't sold Studge.

Should be - was playing over Wilkinson before injury.

It's a bit risky due to him being currently injured but I'm going for it. Just hate wasting transfers on 4-4.5 defenders. Always bigger fish to fry!

Santi, likely some rotation with Luiz, maybe Terry too. Big risk on Turnbull, Ivano probably best CHE def, I'm not a fan of Ruiz and see poss better value Punch over Ram given rel prices.

Nolan sounds fair enough if out of form, Caz an obvious move.

But you'll be left faffing about afterwards, double ARS mids, no CHE mids, no Bale, too exp def (IMO). Still, each to their own. The key question is, are you happy with it. If so, good luck.

downgrade nolan to puncheon then upgrade ruiz

shirley there is no mid worth selling to get an extra DGWer in this week

    Michu (had since GW1)

    Fellaini (nice fixture)

    Mata (on DGW)

    Bale (nice fixture?)

As much as I understand the logic behind having particular affection for pet players(ie ones you've had for a while- I myself will always nurture a soft spot for michu- like many) , I think not swapping players out as you've had them since gw1 simply shows fear of change- everyone needs to adapt and I think saying 'oh but I've had him since 2003, as a reason you can't sell a player is no longer an option from the competitive point of view. That is all.

To those thinking Suarez will not be rested, a couple of points:

    1. Suarez has limped of the pitch at the final whistle for three weeks running.
    2. Rodgers has said he is carrying an ankle injury. That cannot be a good thing long term
    3. I reckon he'll be rested vs Norwich (@ home) even those it's his fancy team (2 x hattys)
