Mathieu Debuchy could be ready in time for Newcastle’s next league match. Rickie Lambert praises the effect of Jay Rodriguez on Southampton’s attacking fortunes, Roberto Martinez looks to keep faith in a winning side, Harry Redknapp remains happy with QPR’s attacking form, while Bacary Sagna may be back in time for Arsenal’s home game with Reading:

Alan Pardew is hopeful that Mathieu Debuchy could be fit in time to face Man City in less than a fortnight’s time. The right-back was subbed off with less than 15 minutes on the clock in Sunday’s defeat at Wigan and early yesterday morning, his manager revealed:

“We’re sending him to France. He’s in the squad, and it’s their right to assess him. I don’t there’ll be much conclusion other than for him to come back. Hopefully, for Manchester City. We don’t think it’s a particularly bad one.”

Debuchy was subsequently withdrawn from the France squad ahead of the upcoming internationals – giving him plenty time to recuperate ahead of the Etihad showdown on March 30. Despite a lack of clean sheets, he has impressed going forward and has collected bonus in each of his last two at St James’ Park, in addition to supplying an assist against Southampton recently. With three home games in four after the trip to City (FUL, SUN, LIV) he could be set for a strong finish to the campaign as the Magpies look to their St James’ Park form to secure top-flight survival.

Roberto Martinez has revealed he intends to continue with the selection policy which saw a handful of regulars miss out in Sunday’s vital 2-1 win over Newcastle:

“The message in the dressing room is very simple: if you play well you keep your place, if you don’t you can’t progress. That is a situation we are in. There is real good competition, daily standards are high and I will let football make the decision. I will assess what happens on the pitch and we will take it from there for the next game. I felt the team which played against Everton deserved continuity and we showed a real togetherness and character which has given us three points.”

The likes of Ali Al-Habsi, Gary Caldwell, Franco Di Santo and James McArthur all lost out and with the decision proving pivotal, Martinez is clearly willing to look for alternatives within his squad over the relegation run in. It could, potentially, bring one or two intriguing Fantasy options our way – Joel Robles was handed his first league start of the season against the Magpies and with Norwich and QPR up next, in addition to a double Gameweek 36, the 4.0 priced stopper is one to keep an eye on if he gets the nod ahead of Al-Habsi again.

Rickie Lambert has sang the praises of Jay Rodriguez after the former Burnley man continued his strong recent form under Mauricio Pochettino. Rodriguez started on the Southampton right ahead of Jason Puncheon once again and was afforded license to drift centrally to link up with Lambert – he resultantly grabbed a goal and assist in the 3-1, with the latter saying:

“I think Jay is a terrific player. I think his best position is as a striker in the middle, and when we have played in that position (together) we have done really well. It was obviously good to see him get that terrific goal at the end, I was over the moon for him.”

While Puncheon drifts further out the first-team picture, Rodriguez has now started six of the last seven under the new manager. He has now produced attacking returns in five of those matches, with a goal against United and assist at home to City amongst his recent displays. At 5.1 in FPL, he now looks key to the Saints’ survival prospects and may well appeal to those on the hunt for a cut-price frontman.

Harry Redknapp looks set to continue with an attacking approach in his attempt to clinch QPR’s top-flight survival. Despite a late defeat at Villa last Saturday, the R’s racked up another couple of goals and have now scored seven times in the last three, compared to four in the previous 10 Gameweeks:

“We are playing well at the moment, that is the encouraging thing. In the first half I couldn’t have asked for more from them. Even all through the game we had chances. Now we have got to go and win away from home somewhere. We have got to win at Fulham, we have got to win at Reading. We have got to win one of those games and we have got to win our home games. If we can do that we can still stay up. It is not impossible.”

While this means less chance of a clean sheet – they have now conceded in each of the last five – Redknapp’s attacking intentions are good news for those mulling over Andros Townsend as a potential cut-price midfielder. Coming in at 4.5 in FPL, the wide man was moved to the left flank at Villa Park as Redknapp shifted from 4-4-2 to 4-3-3 but still found the net for the second game running – he has now racked up 33 points in five starts for the Loftus Road outfit and with home games against Wigan and Stoke in the next five in addition to the above-mentioned road trips, certainly looks to have the platform to maintain his current form.

Bacary Sagna could be set to return from a knee injury in time for Arsenal’s next league game with Reading. The Frenchman has missed the last three Gameweeks due to the problem but is expected to resume full training over the international break – his possible return would certainly raise major question marks over Carl Jenkinson’s game time for the Royals match and the upcoming double, despite the latter’s recent impressive displays.

Staying on the subject of Arsenal, Wojciech Szczesny is determined to prove his worth to the Gunners after being dropped due to poor form for the last couple of matches. The Pole has warmed the bench as compatriot Lukas Fabianski has registered back-to-back clean sheets away to Bayern Munich and Swansea; the latter now seems in the driving seat between the sticks right now for the Gunners but Szczesny seems content with the situation, for the time being:

“I am too happy to go somewhere else. I believe in the philosophy of the club and that Arsenal will start to win again. I have a debt to pay here for the club, I owe them. I just do not want to go anywhere else. As long as they want me here, there is no ‘somewhere else’, and I have a contract until June 2015. It is halfway through March and we have lost everything. There are still 10 matches left to save the club against the humiliation of all times. It would be disaster not to be in the top four and without Champions League next year. We have the 10 most important games in our careers. We are going through the most difficult time since I came here.”

The Belgian FA could be set to risk the wrath of Roberto Mancini by fielding Vincent Kompany for the upcoming internationals. Kompany has now missed the last six Gameweeks with a calf complaint and Mancini had spoken of taking no risks prior to Saturday’s defeat at Everton but Belgium assistant head coach Vital Borkelmans has hinted at the importance of his availability for the World Cup double-header against Macedonia:

“Vincent is now training with the physical coach. He also trained very hard at City.He is very important for the group and we are quite happy he is here. We will make a decision on Wednesday or Thursday whether he can play or not.”

Joe Allen has pulled out of the Wales squad to face Scotland and Croatia. The midfielder started for Liverpool in Saturday’s 3-1 loss to Southampton but was replaced by Lucas at half-time – reports suggest the Reds now may decide to bring forward an operation on his shoulder, which could see Allen miss the remainder of the season.

Just enough cash in the bank to finance Bertrand -> Monreal before he rises.

Worth doing it to get rid of dead wood and add a DGW-er?

Or do we feel Bert will get some game time in the DGW feeding frenzy?

      Hello Sporting.

I think Monreal seems a good player but I wouldn't even consider him for FPL. He's incredibly popular on here after his goal but what do you do if Gibbs gets a start instead? At 5.5m I think he's too expensive for the risk.

I'd much rather go with Jenkinson or Mertesacker.

Jenks is the hot item. The hare in this little story. But a bit of a gamble.

Mert is the tortoise but will he get the returns?

He'll get some gametime guaranteed, but it's hard to judge whether it will be in the league or in cups. I can see him starting next game to keep Cole fresh for the cup, I think Benitez wants to win something and Cole is likely to be heavily involved during the internationals. Tough one, I like the transfer but I dislike early transfers during internationals.

Overall, I'd wait. If you can't afford Monreal come deadline, I'd look elsewhere.

Monreal plays RDG, then DGW in 2 GWs time.
He may be rotated with Gibbs, but do we know when he'll even be fit..?

Let's face it, that's stereotyping. How severe it is, or whether people react to it or not, is another question. But it's definitely stereotyping.

There is nothing racist about the hats. It's using them as a stereotype for a West Indian cricket team. What is this the 1800s?

It's not the hat. It's the stereotyping. I could have said neolithic instead of 1800s. Same point. I thought we were past the era of defending the use of racial stereotypes.

Michu is at least nailed on, while it's impossible to judge what games Mata will play with Chelsea having 4 games in 8 days. Tough question. Depends entirely on Sagna's injury, I can't see him being dropped cold, even with his questionable performances.

For me, it comes down to the DGW. I'd much rather take a gamble on Giroud exploding than getting defensive cover (where we've seen heavy rotation lately) in for the 3rd Arsenal player.

Merte seems the only sensible Arsenal defensive pick. Every other keeper/defender will be a rotation risk.

Giroud may be worth the punt though.

He's an excellent striker, I've said so since they bought him. His record isn't too bad either, he's got 9 goals already in his debut season, that's reasonable. Not eye-catching, but reasonable. Their fixtures hint towards a big thumping or two, and he's likely to be involved.

Another thing to consider is that Arsenal REALLY have something to play for. Not getting a CL spot would be considered a criminal offense for a team like Arsenal. I can see them going for it.

Don't be fooled by his recent poor spell. Sagna is quality and he will get his place back.

I think Wenger keeps hoping he'll hit that top form at any moment.......

Not offensive at all to me, but it depends on whoever is interpreting it. Most Scandinavian people like the whole viking-theme, even though it's connected to some pretty bad stuff.

Rank is rank (100k). Not sure what happened this season.

I can see your point on the gravs but can't relate to it though.

Racist is racist, make no mistake about it. But there is room for self-depreciation and good humour in the race relations. WI have long promoted their Rastafarian roots and are proud of them. We are not promoting slavery or segregation here.

It's just like someone wearing a leprechaun hat on March 17th in the NY parade.

I understand you are not promoting slavery or segregation. You obviously have a different opinion on whether it is an offensive stereotype. Some people take offense at the leprechaun hats. Some people get offended at the Notre Dame mascot. Many people don't. I'd let the leprechaun hats slide without comment, but I personally fell too differently about this particular stereotype to not comment or not respond when questioned.

I think you are making a leap that is not justified. People are not assuming all West Indians are Rastafarians, or that all West Indians wear dreds and smoke ganga. Instead, they are identifying images that conjure up the West Indies. I can think of various agricultural products, the sport of cricket itself, and perhaps Carribean beach huts that might conjure up the West Indies, but Rastafarianism is as associated with the West Indies as the St George's Cross is with England and wine is with France.

I give people more credit than actually thinking that all West Indians are Rastafarians. Nonetheless they are using a stereotype to portray a West Indian team. There is quite a diversity among West Indians, and my experience is that most do not appreciate racial stereotyping.

Not to beat this to death, but it is your assumption that people are using a stereotype that I take issue with. What they are doing is using putting hats, dreds, and spliffs on their gravs. These attributes exist and are in fact used by SOME Rastafarians in the West Indies. It is YOU who says they are using a stereotype. But how are they USING it? The stereotyping is happening in your head, not theirs. They just think (I am presuming) that those three attributes are emblematic of the West Indies. How can that be disputed? They ARE emblematic of the West Indies in the same way as an Oktoberfest bier stein is emblematic of Germany. Nobody is saying that what is emblematic is typical. I am American. I seldom eat hamburgers. I would never deny that hamburgers are emblematic of the USA, and would not be offended if a USA team used hamburgers in their grav.

The season Owen won it was when Raul had his best or one of his best seasons too if I remember right. It's a shame he couldn't win it.

Looking back I think that was a good era of football. Larger number of players competing to be the best. Don't think the players chasing Ronaldo and Messi are as good now.

You were very lucky to win that league then! Never seen a team with a hits history like that do well. Impressive run of green arrows but it didn't really get your very far up the rankings. With a little discipline you could easily catch the guy on top if he has a little dip but it seems unlikely all 4 of the people ahead of you will let you pass them.

Sounds pretty good to me, means you won't have a benching dilemma every week. But I still feel like you gotta ditch RPV at some point considering how the league is going, their short-term fixture congestion, PRICE, depth of attacking options in Man U and his form.

Might start studying the form of some of the likely Championship sides who might win promotion?

Anyone have any idea who is a good FPL prospect from the likes of:

    1. Cardiff
    2. Hull
    3. Watford
    4. Crystal Palace
    5. Notts Forrest?

Might be time for me to start losing some of the mainstays in my team. 2FTs this week, thinking of actually ditching Michu, and while it's tempting to sort out Puncheon on the bench (and even to ditch RVP), I'm thinking maybe Sturridge to go. I'm looking at:

    Michu -> Cazorla
    Sturridge -> Berbatov

Thoughts? Fulham do have a double on the horizon don't they?

Sturridge is nailed on, got great fixtures and have been producing good points. I'm considering the first, since they have a blank and Michu's form is dipping... but at the same time, it's Michu! Maybe do one and have a cushy 2FTs next week as well?

I'm thinking that, but my lowest score of the season has got me wanting to freshen up (and I still have a WC). Having both Suarez and Sturridge is frustrating when Liverpool don't perform, but I might stick with the two for slightly longer.

Monreal WILL be rotated with Gibbs. Merte is the only safe Arsenal defender.

Santi + Theo is given for me, the third is up for grabs and I'm thinking attackers > defenders for DGW. Especially with the rotation at the back.

Luiz is a rotation risk, so I can see the logic there. Sounds pretty good, considering JE/GJ?

Also is 1 yellow away from a suspension and if he plays vs United than he will probably get that yellow. Not GJ for sure as I have Enrique, J E yes, but my gut feeling is that united will win that FA cup game so there wont be a double and if there is I can still get him in for someone else.

    "The Shadow"

It is idiots like you that causes many problems with racism. Taking an innocent action and twisting it into something it clearly is not meant to be.

Ridiculous statements like this is what often causes big problems in racism and what makes it even harder for people to stop ill unneeded feelings against other races.

This is the issue. If someone intentionally was being racist that is obviously wrong. But making an issue out of an innocent action is just ridiculous.

Right. Planning ahead for gw33, thinking of saving a transfer and having only 4 doublers rather than 5. Thoughts on whether this potential line up will be good enough to keep up with the pack?

    Begovic(MUN)
    Boyce(mci) Sagna/Mert Baines
    Walcott Santi Sissoko(SUN) Bale(che)
    Sturridge(rdg) Lambert(WHM) Rooney(sto)

Defence looks iffy, but can't see the worth in using a transfer for little gain considering it'll probably result in a hit later.

I'm considering shipping Mata out this week as I really can't see him starting the against Sunderland with Man Utd 48 hrs later.

Has anyone considered Silva as a replacement or is it too much of a punt?

I'm considering the same. It's between Michu and Mata for me, and Michu at least you'll know will start. I can do Michu -> Fellaini for GW33.

I much more fancy Cazorla than Silva. Better fixtures, team is in better form, DGW imminent.
