We turn our attentions to the player Key Performance Indicator (KPI) statistics once again in our latest membersโ€™ article. Having assessed the form of Forwards over the last four Gameweeks compared to the first seven rounds of fixtures late last week, we now turn our attentions to the men in midfield.

For the unfamiliar, these Key Performers Indicator (KPI) tables use a series of key stats to allow our members to track a trend in player performance as a guide to their form. By tracking the frequency of certain key statistics, such as minutes per chance, and comparing them over two separate periods of time, we can ascertain patterns of improvement or decline in these areas. For those unfamiliar, weโ€™ve rolled out a preview movie which shows just how to get the best out of the KPI tables.

Ya, i think its pretty unlikely either team will keep a clean sheet, the way things are looking. If someone held a gun to my head, i`d choose Duff, simply cus Newcastle are in better form than Stoke.

You should never take -20. Not ever. Unless youve completely given up and just want to troll/have fun/get the desired team. What you should be doing is looking at your team for the next gw, and think who are you not satisfied with, and work from that. Thats the logical and sound thing to do.

Not ideal for me as it means those with pelle have an easy switch from cheap mid and pelle to Sterling and cheap striker lol

For me it would probably mean Fab out for Sterling to get the rises and work on bringing Hazard in later. Or just go without. Feel I would have to keep Costa though annoying as it would be

The team I want this week is totally different to the team I'll want next week and will likely bear no resemblance to the team I'll want in a few weeks time and a few weeks after that I'll probably want the team I have currently.

Plays for a team that has virtually no cs potential for as long as Dunne is in the team. He cant really head either, so he has little goal threat, even though he gets on the end of a fair bit of corners.

Explosion imminent -> overrated potential. Hazard doesnt tempt me very much, i`d much rather have Cesc`s steady grind points. Because you know he`ll ALWAYS deliver. Meanwhile you`re holding on to Hazard for 8-10 gw`s for that one single double digit score. Barkley doesnt tempt me because he doesnt play every game yet.

I am norwegian, yes. Well ive been playing football since i was 5 years old, lower divions ofcourse. Playing this game pretty passionate for the last 2-3 seasons, with varying luck. But i find football and the statistics around it interesting, and i watch my fair share of games too because stats can sometimes be misleading.

Like in Hazards case. His stats are good and his actual play is very good, but for me he just doesnt look like scoring a lot of goals. If you compare him to Sanchez (which would be natural, given position and price), i think Sanchez will just score so many, many more of the "easy, ugly" goals. Hazard does have his moments of brilliane which very few in the BPL can match, but i still dont think hes a fantastic FPL pick.

Yeah you've a decent rank history alright.

What I would say from my limited experience is players like fabregas are poor picks in fpl (adm would be another I'd put in this bracket). I find players gave to have goal threat to be high priced mids and for this reason I'd rank fabregas way below hazard.

I'd expect penalties alone to contribute 40 - 50 points to hazard total plus I'd expect hazard to get at least another 7 or 8 from play putting him on almost 100pt before you take assists, points for playing 60 mins and cs points to his total which should easily see him surpass 300 pts this season while I'll be surprised if fab gets more than 170.

Fabregas was very fortunate to get what he got early this season and will regress massively whereas there is scope for hazard to kick on due to his undoubted goal threat.

I have to disagree with you on that. I dont think Fabregas is a poor pick. If you think Hazard will score 40-50 points from pens alone (thats like atleast 6-7 pens), i think Fabregas could aquire atleast 10-12 more assists from setpieces. I see little difference in Fabs/Hazards open play assist potential, but ofcourse Hazard has more goal threat from open play. Fabgreas has some, though. Hes always scored a decent number of goals, and hes pretty streaky.

I cant see Hazard scoring close to 20 goals this season (which is kinda what youre predicting?)

Idk, Hazard just doesnt tempt me as a FPL player. I think the diffrence between the two at the end of the season will be less than 50 points.

Fab has never played def mid before though.

Hazard scored 14 last year with only three pens so yeah I think he'll get north of 15 goals this season.

Hes not really playing def mid now either, hes playing centrally alongside Matic. Which allows Fabs to pretty much do what he wants, with a little bit of defensive responsibility. He played very a very similar role in his time at Arsenal, iirc.

I think Hazard is less likely to reproduce last seasons goal tally just because they have Costa this year. Last season he did everything for them. I dont really see the killer instinct in him, yet. He wants everything to just look so good, when a lot of the time, you just have to do the easy thing.

I couldn't disagree with you more. He played no10 with arsenal off rvp.

Hazard is a year older and most young players improve as they get older. I see hazard at least matching last year's total and more than likely smashing it.

I think it is only a matter if time before hazard hits three weeks in a row like Sanchez has just had and everyone will be getting him in but each to their own I guess.

Ps yeah I know fab is not strictly def mid but he has almost zero attacking threat in his current position.

Thought he played more in the double pivot, much like Ramsey does now. Pretty sure of it.

Sure, players improve when they get older and mature. But smashing it? I`d be surprised if he even comes close to his numbers from last season.

I just dont see Hazard beeing able to find that level of consistency. I also disagre with you on zero attacking threat from Fabregas. Regardless of his starting position, he always lurks up the field and wants to be involved in dangerous areas. Just because hes not as agile and good of a dribbler as Hazard, doesnt mean hes not attacking.

3 shots in the box for fab over the last 4 means virtually no goal threat imo. I know stats don't always tell the whole story but that is abysmal.

Ps I agree Sanchez playing as a striker is the better pick but hazard is still a close second. He has 7pts less than Costa and has not hit any real form yet (and costs 1m less).

He also averages 7 ppg at home this season so is a valid capt option at home also

I also think Sanchez is a better pick anyway, even if he plays wide. He`s just more interested in getting into scoring positions, and has better ability to do so than Hazard.

For me, this is Hazard when he`s on "real form". Playing really well, producing a whole lot of almost. Prime option, for me just not top of the drawer, considering his pricetag.

Except Sanchez used to play striker in Italy, and is much more of a natural finisher than Hazard. He has that ability to drift into those positions that goals often come from, whereas Hazards goals more often than not come from very good attacks/solo runs. And ofcourse the penalties.

Sanchez wasn't getting anywhere near as many chances when playing out wide as he is thtough the middle. I don't think it is any coincidence that he has started to bang them in since the formation change that put him up front?

His stats are up, but not drastically. That could very well just have something to do with the fact that he played a long world cup and was adjusting to a new league/new team. Something thats hes said himself, as well.

When i watched the Swansea game, he was pretty much playing over the entire front line in a free role, from what i could gather.

And like i said, hes much more natural when it comes to scoring goals, and he is much more direct like someone posted above. I`d be surprised if Hazard got half of Sanchez`s goals, if you dont count penalties.

Like ive said many times. Last season was different. Chelsea had literally NO other attacking threat last season. They had Ba, Torres. They never scored. That led Hazard to do a lot of things on his own whereas now he can pass it to Costa who will do much more. IF Hazard scores 15 without penalties, i`ll eat something ugly while thinking of you.

                        Haha fair enough.

If anything hazard should score more now as he has someone to play off and someone creative in cm to thread through balls to him. There should be more space now as it will be more difficult for teams to double mark him and still deal with Costa threat and close fab down in cm.

Hazard gives you another captaincy choice. Cesc is not really a viable option

he is too inconsistent / unpredictable to be a valid captain choice.
with Cesc you just let him collect the points.

6 ppg in home games for fab returning attacking points in 4 of the five gws with 7 ppg for hazard returning points in 3 out of the five gws. Not that much difference in consistency

It is little known but each episode is like a feature film. Epic in scope and detail. It is made by the same guy who made the tudors which might give you an idea of how historically accurate and detailed it is.

He adds a fair bit just by the fact that hes such a good footballer and rarely waste the ball. I know fullbacks that cant do anything with it and therefore are menaces to his team because of it. However if Oviedo is fit, hes not that much worse.

Yup. I mean, Everton are a decent defensive unit, but much of that credit should be given to the central 4, since both Coleman and Baines are extremely attacking.

I mean, Siggy didnt do much against Arsenal either, except that incredible freekick. But i guess thats what he can do, and i kinda knew it. I`ll get rid of that problem after this gw, think im ditching Tadic and upgrading Pellè.

Hmmm, ya. Tadic for me is like another Hazard case. Great stats, still not sure hes the real deal, FPL wise. And Soton`s fixtures are just so disgusting. Actually monitoring Sturridge, if he/Liverpool can put up a single decent performance, im pretty sure im shifting him in.

Tadic had his chance with easy fixtures and didnt deliver. Think its time to get rid alright. Sturridge an interesting differential but will be very hard for him to justify that price tag.

Yeah. I wanted Tadic a couple weeks before his 23 point haul, and after that i just said fk it and got him anyway. It turned out to be a mistake, but im not regretting the transfer. Hes gotta go now though.

Sturridge would be an amazing differential, and hes a proven goal scorer. Thing is, like youve said, hes very expensive and hes playing for a team that absolutely sucks atm. He could be the one to reinvigorate us though. But im definitely waiting for some form from both before i get him.

Since he's been introduced into the starting lineup I've only seen them last week against City. He didn't really overlap but instead sort of stopped when he got to the final third and laid it off. He stood over a couple of free kicks but didn't take them, but the very nature of him standing over them was positive. He made about two or three runs into the final third with attacking intent the whole game, if I remember correctly. So, in short, not really much attacking threat at all.

Hes alright. He comes on the occasional overlap and has a decent cross on him, and he likes to take the early ones too. But hes not at all like your Clynes and Baines and Shaws that just cant wait to leave their place in the backline.

Since Azpil has minimal attacking threat and any bonus points he gets should more or less be neutralized by Courtois getting save points I'd rather have the GK be from the superior team and rotate a defender than vice versa. The idea is that Chelsea should theoretically have a chance to keep a clean sheet even in unfavorable fixtures whereas a team like Villa or QPR have much less of a chance.

          This.
          And additionally, Courtois + Naylor = 10.7
          Whereas Fabianski + Azpi = 11.1

Yeah that's my thinking too. So D over C definitely. It's down to between D or A now methinks.

With D I might be able to just stick with Courtois all the time and get Yun later on which rotates well with Naylor

Disagree. Azpilicueta has a little bit of assist potential. Hes also a bonus machine whenever Chelsea keep a clean sheet. Hes always in the top BPS, unless they stomp someone and a lot of people get a lot of points. Think he`ll outscore Curtois with a bunch of points.

If you see it that way, then surely it would be better to go for Azpil...I just don't ๐Ÿ™‚

If you dont see it that way, you should check out the stats. Hes a bps magnet, because he does so many of the things that lead to points in that system, well. Tackles, interceptions, duels won, completed passes etc. He has little attacking threat, but there is some. Games where they win with one or two goals without conceding, hes gonna be in the bps every single time.

Fair point, he does have BPS potential. And Naylor is 1 card away from suspension.
Although does it justify the (-4)?

No, never. I would never justify taking hits for a defender if you have someone that starts games.

My doubt is A is just Villa's defensive form. I know they are a very fixture-based defensive team, so recently they've been woeful due to bad fixtures.

But all of their defenders are injured.

Yeah that is a worry. But people are discounting them too easily I think. In their bad run theyve shut out both Liverpool and a very attacking Hammers side. Guzan is actually above Krul for points scored this year and coming into an amazing run of fixtures. I lile Fabianksi too but I dont think I ttust Swamsea all that much either over them fixtures and the 0.5 saved from it oculd be very handy

Really torn whether to go without AVL or SWA defense basically at this point
