Our weekly analysis of the Captaincy contenders arrives once again this Thursday evening. As always, we take a three-part approach which includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the armband conundrum.

The Captain Poll

This week’s Captain Poll is a two-way tussle for our attentions between Diego Costa and Sergio Aguero. With 41% of the votes cast so far, the Chelsea striker slightly edges it ahead of a home encounter against West Brom – he’s scored six times in five appearances at the Bridge, failing to net just once, and faces a defence that has conceded twice in all but one of the last five Gameweeks.

Aguero has been selected by 38% as Man City prepare for the visit of Swansea. The Argentine has failed to score in two of five appearances in front of his own fans this term, though with nine goals and 57 points in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game in the last six, he’s the man in form. The Swans have been decent on their travels at the back, though, earning a clean sheet in two of their last three away matches.

Eden Hazard and Alexis Sanchez could be real differential armband options for the Gameweek ahead. The Chelsea midfielder is seeking his third straight double-figure haul at the Bridge, whilst six goals in his last four underline Sanchez’s form as United’s patched-up rearguard limp into the Emirates.

The avalanche of votes for Costa and Aguero leaves little interest elsewhere. Cesc Fabregas has mustered 1% of votes – mirrored by Southampton’s Graziano Pelle for Monday evening’s trip to Villa. The Italian has failed to score in his last three now, but with the Midlands outfit sweating on the fitness of a number of defenders, Pelle’s owners will be giving him one last chance before the fixtures turn nasty. There’s no doubt he’s better in front of his own fans, though – the summer signing has mustered just one goal and a single assist on the road compared to five goals and three assists at St Mary’s.

I am thinking about captaining (C)osta purely because everyone keeps writing him off for daft reasons

Hazard and Aguero are the standout captaincy options, I think.
Aguero clearly the best, Hazard if you want a Chelsea captain.
    Costa a close third.

I think Hazard is the type of player who even if he blanks right up until the end of the season people will be bigging him up still. He has done nothing to warrant praise in my opinion.

Bit stumped on what to do here. 1 free transfer and 0.4 in the bank

    Krul
    Clyne Chambers Baines*
    Downing* Sanchez Siggy Fabregas*
    Costa Pelle Aguero

    Gilks Boyd Hutton Wisdom

Was planning on saving the transfer and just riding the week out but considering Fab, Pelle and Costa are one booking from a ban is making me tempted to take a hit or two. Any ideas? Cheers all

Dyche said: “Nathaniel was in on Wednesday and hopefully that is nothing too serious, we’re hopeful he’ll be okay, although we’ll find out more today (Thursday) and tomorrow.

“And Scott Arfield also picked up a minor knock on Tuesday, and hopefully he will be okay.:

Fabregas the only player I don't fancy to score well even if he is fit. And his price drop is the only one which would impact my sell value right now. Perhaps Fab>Haz still the way to go. I wouldn't be the only one relying on my bench this GW.

Never usually have a trouble deciding my bench but I was looking for a few more opinions. Got these players to choose from:

Wisdom: Plays Chelsea away. Historically Chelsea don't score THAT many goals (1 or 2) against West Brom. Wisdom has some attacking potential in him. 4 cleansheets, 15 goals conceded so far.

Moore: Plays Sunderland away. Sunderland have been scoring a lot of goals lately. I expect an attacking game as both teams will go for it. Moore has minimal attacking potential. 18 goals conceded, 1 cleansheet.

Marney: Plays Stoke away. Burnley have only scored 6 goals so far but have been scoring more as of late compared to the beginning of the season. What are the chances Marney, a CM will be involved in the minimal goals Burnley score? Should I have him first substitute and take the two points or be greedy and have Wisdom as a safeguard in case Costa doesn't go well and West Brom somehow keep a cleansheet?

      Marney, Moore, Wisdom.
There's a chance Moore doesn't start, in that case Wisdom comes in anyway 🙂

I'd put Marney first, followed by Moore. Marney is a safe bet for 2 pts and I expect Wisdom and Moore to get 0 or 1 each.
