In a Gameweek blighted by numerous injuries, Fantasy managers will be looking for Southampton to come to the rescue at Villa Park this evening. Ronald Koeman’s side roll up to the midlands on the back of four straight clean sheets and with the hosts having scored just one goal in seven Gameweeks, another shut-out for the Saints could well be on the cards.

Nathaniel Clyne (22.4%) and Ryan Bertrand (32.5%) are amongst the four most popular defenders in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game right now but with the fixtures turning against Koeman’s outfit, many have a dilemma on their hands ahead of a run of matches against City, Arsenal and United.

Further up the field, Dusan Tadic and Graziano Pelle could also be on their last outing for many. The Serbian’s underlying stats continue to impress but, aside from his incredible 23-point haul at home to Sunderland in Gameweek 8, he’s struggled for any semblance of consistency and has blanked in seven of the first 11 rounds of fixtures.

Pelle’s drop in shooting accuracy has been a real concern to his owners. The Italian has failed to register a single attempt on target over his previous three appearances and has now netted in only one of his last five league outings. Another blank this evening may well be the final straw, though with Villa beset by backline injuries (Ron Vlaar, Philippe Senderos and Nathan Baker are all out), Pelle will be confident of grabbing the goals before the fixtures take a turn for the worse.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    Opinions please.

    Krul
    Baines, Clyne, Ivanovic, Bertrand, Coloccini
    Siggy, Mane, Sanchez, Hazard, Boyd,
    Aguero, Austen Jutkiwiecz.

1FT and 1.9m in the bank.

Considering Clyne -> Yun and Jutkiwiecz ->Bony for -4.

    Good moves?

Poor first half in all honesty from both a fantasy and real-life perspective.

Aston Villa doing what they did at the beginning of the season and really squeezing the game, closing them down well and relying on the counter attack. Can't see any more goals in this for that reason.

It's dull, it's not for purists, but it is what gets results for sides like these and you have to respect that.

      Agree.

Lambert has been there 3 years and done absolutely nothing to improve that team or club. No idea how their fans can put up with that shyte football they've been serving up. A club of Villa's size shouldn't be counter-attacking in home games against anyone, let alone relegation candidates (not directed at Saints)

      1. BabyB
        • 12 Years
        11 years, 15 days ago

In Lamberts defence, how much money has he had to spend?

Also, how many games has Benteke played? He is their one quality player and he has been totally absent this year.

          • 11 Years
          11 years, 15 days ago

Yeah, fair point, and I guess thats another discussion. But his budget is still bigger than Palace, and they finished 11th... WBA finished 8th a couple of seasons ago... Villa are perennial relegation candidates under him and totally incapable of playing anything other than backs-to-the-wall defense and counterattack. No wonder they do better against the good sides.

        Nailed it Rick.

Every Villa fan I've spoken to wants Lerner and Lambert out of their club.

They have not changed one bit under Lamberk (as their fans affectionately call him) under his management.

Stale, vile, anti-football that the press laud as 'counter-attacking'

They are certainly not a team for the purists, having said that they do what needs to be done to get results.

Just don't understand why they have to put them on TV so much. It's not even like the atmosphere is rocking.

"Do what has to be done to get results" is bollocks. A team with Villa's fanbase and revenue shouldn't need to play this way to get results.

          No excuse.

They set up to not concede, as shown in the City game.

Just a purely reactive set-up and they just pray they don't concede with their backs to the wall the whole game

What's the point of getting rid of Saints players even with the run in, because they are more than capable against the big boys and unless you are upgrading to a Hazard, Baines or Di Maria etc. it is just transfers for the sake of it.

    Dummet Chambers Fonte (Wisdom, Colocinni)
    Tadic Sigurdsson Sanchez Fabregas (Boyd)
    Aguero Costa Sakho

Got £0.6m ITB and only 1 FT

Should I be concentrating on sorting out my weak defence or getting Tadic out with their weak fixture list or get Sakho out with his injury?

I'd really like to get Bony in but I don't know if I'm being bias as a Swans fan..... Not sure if sensible option is to just swap Fonte out for Azpilicueta...

Southampton are a joy to watch though, there is'int many teams I'd prefer to watch this season. Keep the ball well and have exciting players like Tadic and Mane at the top of the field, bombing fullbacks and have a super axis of Wanyama-Schneiderlin. Pelle is awkard but bangs in the goals required.

Make no mistake they will be a force still over the next few weeks. City and Chelsea may be too tough by Arsenal, United, Spurs are there to be taken
