With less than four weeks left until the season gets underway, the Sky Sports Fantasy Football game for 2015/16 finally opened its doors earlier today.

Whilst Fantasy managers start to build their opening squads, reigning champion Geoff Pryor will be hoping to retain his crown after earning a cool £30,000 for finishing first last season – if you missed our interview with Geoff, click here for the lowdown on his title-winning campaign.

As many of you will know, the Sky Sports game is one that we’ve covered in the past, with our Members area including the relevant bonus point recipients across the positions.

After winning the Best League for each of the last three years, we’re looking forward to defending our title once again. The winner of last season’s Scout League picked up £1,000 for their achievements and we’re hoping to offer prizes for whoever finishes at the summit once again.

We’ll be re-starting our official league soon and will be rolling out a series of articles over the next couple of weeks, looking at the Player List and analysing the best tactical approaches.

Regular contributor d1sable is on board once more to roll out his regular Friday afternoon articles – he clinched yet another top 100 spot in 2015/16 and will be looking to heap the pressure on Geoff at the summit.

We’ve set up a new community article to exclusively deal with Sky Sports Fantasy teams. Those looking to get involved with the discussion should click this link.

Right well I was pretty set on Ritchie/Sakho until Hendo pulled this performance. Hendo/Deeney could work... Dammit, why does preseason distort all judgement and we're only one game in?

My advice is to ignore it Lucy, they were playing Thai All Stars. Henderson is a good option, but he's not suddenly become Xavi since May (that's Joe Allen of course).

This game was against a side of Vanarama quality at most. I think that Hendo is ridiculous value however.

Liverpool vs Thai All Stars (4-0)
    Goals: Markovic, Sakho, Lallana, Origi
    Assists: Teixeira(2), Henderson(2)

    First Half XI:
    -----------------Bogdan-------------
    -Gomez---Toure—Sakho---Wisdom
    --------------------Lucas--------------
    -----Rossiter-------------Teixeira-----
    ----------------Markovic---------
    -----------Ings------Lambert

    First Half:
    - Markovic was good in the 10. Best player in the first half. Had lots of time and space on the ball, made accurate through balls, decent runs, linked well with the front 2 and got his goal.
    - Gomez was solid at RB. Fast, strong, composed. Low crosses into the box. Stood out in the defence. Very impressed.
    - Toure-Sakho weren’t troubled much. Sakho class on the ball. Both composed and played balls into the midfield. Wisdom played left back and did ok, no mistakes but didn’t stand out either.
    - Lambert was very poor. Minimal runs, poor passes, lost the ball a lot and not on the same wavelength as Ings; who made a few runs in behind the defence and pressed well. Ings had a goal disallowed and showed some good touches + skill on the ball.
    - Teixeria got 2 assists and took his chance well but still don’t see him in the first squad. Rossiter was okay-ish. Lucas was Lucas.
    Second Half XI:
    --------------Mignolet---------
    -Clyne---Skrtel---Lovren---Maguire
    ---Milner-----Allen---Henderson
    ------Ibe------Origi-----Lallana

    Second Half:

    - Loads of runs from Milner and Henderson out wide and into the box. Both composed, passed the ball well and dictated the second half. Henderson with 2 assists and was the better of the pair.
    - Allen was nippy, strong on the ball, kept it simple and kept it ticking. Midfield trio pressed well.
    - Defence didn’t have much to do. Skrtel played loads of through balls into the midfield. Clyne bombed down the right hand side. Maguire had a few good crosses. Lovren didn’t make any mistakes(!)
    - Ibe and Lallana were both solid. Lallana with a good goal, good movement and wasn’t taking ages on the ball as usual. Ibe was rapid, strong but looked a bit raw.
    - Origi worked the channels well, good movement but scuffed a few chances. Hit the post as well. Got his goal from a corner in the end. Was pleased with his performance.

    Other points to take:

    - Diamond in the first half looked more balanced than the 4-3-3 in the second half, though the second half had better players playing.
    - Henderson took corners from the right hand side. Don’t think we got a corner from the left.
    - Ings and Origi may be battling for one spot. Both worked hard, Origi had more chances and ran the channels more. He also scored.
    - Lambert is a dinosaur.

Impressed with: Sakho, Gomez, Texieira, Markovic, Henderson, Lallana, Origi.

    TL;DR? Don’t blame you, it’s pre- season.

As a Liverpool fan, must say: excellent report mate. Confirms Hendo>Milner in terms of FPL.

Considering Origi now @ 6m, could be a great budget option if he's chosen to lead the line in Studge's absence..

      Excellent analysis.
Henderson depends. If you think Liverpool will play well then the front 3(Coutinho,Firmino and striker) will contribute more than Henderson(as it always happens),but if they don't it will be Henderson who will be involved in most attacks(as a talisman).
Left corner will probably go to Coutinho and free-kicks will be shared.

Being honest, we don't know. I'm guilty with this one of judging it on me thinking Ozil is Arsenal's most gifted player, it doesn't necessarily reflect Wenger's thoughts.

Both look nailed. I would say Özil is a bit safer though as Cazorla has competition from Wilshere/Ramsey.

      1. Camp No No
        • 12 Years
        10 years, 9 months ago

Particularly Wilshere is really more of an AM, and it is a disaster when they have to resort to him to play in the double pivot. As is Cazorla, though. It seems to me that Arsenal really have 2 CM/DM positions and just one player (Coquelin), and 1 CAM position for 4-5 players to play in it. Some of them then has to drop to that double pivot. Cazorla can do that, Ramsey can a little, Wilshere and Özil can't. Gives a bit more safety of starts to Caz and Ramsey, who can play a larger variety of positions.

        1. il Brutto
          • 12 Years
          10 years, 9 months ago

I think Özil is nailed at n10 and Sanchez is nailed somewhere in the side. I also think Cazorla will be very hard to oust so basically leaves Ramsey/Wilshere/Walcott for the remaining mid position and Giroud/Walcott as a striker.

          1. Camp No No
            • 12 Years
            10 years, 9 months ago

Agreed. Sanchez mostly on left, more precisely. Supposing everybody is fit and no new CM is bought. I also think that Wilshere is the loser in that RW/CF position battle. Ramsey, Walcott and Giroud will share the minutes.

    5. Quinny___
      • 11 Years

Ozil imo. I see arsenal lining up like
      Coq
      Cazorla Ramsey
      Sanchez Giroud Ozil

But Wilshere may force his way into the team instead of Cazorla... Coq brings balance i cant see him being dropped

I saw some comments before regarding 4 way rotations. I;d just like to say this

A lot of the stuff I put up before was less about a 4 way and more about 2 lots of 2 ways WHM/BOU and LIV/LEI(or NOR)

But also if you actually look at the games it's not really difficult to actually chose which 2 to play as there's virtually no overlap in blue and red games, You also have 7-89 weeks (depending on LEI or NOR) where at least 2 defenders are at home and if you use Norwich, no games against any of last season's top 8 over the 1st 8 GWs

I was never a fan of doubling up on defence. Puts to many eggs in one basket for my liking but if can pay off, with chelsea especially but I think you could look else where.

Im a united fan and im not 100% you can count on Mata to start. So that could be a worry We will play 433 with Depay rooney and di maria potentially the 3

Id similarly be worried about Vardy

It's only pre season but I agree, what's pleased me most is the players are playing in their natural positions

Did anyone bookmark the 'Team Name' hot topic from last week? I need some inspiration.

Went with Eatfood Drinkwater last season but feel I can't recycle it.

A bit of buzz about Henderson after his performance today, and quite a lot of people saying that they have him/Milner and Ritchie in their draft squads.

Just wondering, is that 3rd and 4th midfielder or 4th and 5th??

    1. Les Bleus
      • 14 Years

      4th probably.

    2. Doolittle

3rd and 4th. For me, it's so I can afford Aguero, Rooney and Sakho. May well downgrade Rooney or Sakho and get someone like Mata, but no one will have a 6m midfielder as their 5th mid.

Interested to get some views from people more knowledgeable than me on the merits of:

    1) Morgan v Huth

    2) Deeney v Wilson

Anyone have any informed views they could share? Thanks!

Bournemouth love attacking football so Wilson looks promising in that regard but for me Deeney who's scored 20 goals regularly in the champo is a safe bet.

As a Bournemouth fan I would have Richie, so Deeney would be my preference. However we have Villa at home in GW1, which is tempting.

I find it hard to believe that people have someone other than Cech/Courtois in goals. At 5.5 its a steal

Kos gets a couple goals every season, and really cleans up the bonus points when they get a clean sheet. His total last year is a little low, as he was injured for a lot of it.

IMO, it's better if you go 4.5/4.5 GK rotation and get Azpi. You're spending the same and getting better value out of Azpi IMO.

Look at last year's goalkeeper standings and enjoy having a Chelsea/Arsenal slot taken by someone who scores less points than Pantilmon this year.

Yep. If keepers got more bonus it would be one thing, but unfortunately the cheaper ones that get battered tend to get a lot of save points for cheaper.

One thing I'm liking about MLS fantasy is how many points some keepers can get, even bonus aside from saves. Premium keepers can be great value in that game.

It's even more of a steal when the cheaper keepers start racking up them save points. The numbers don't lie buddy

Those extra 10 points that Panti would have gotten last season make him an interesting proposition given him and Mannone combined were already top of the shops for keepers

    but

    a) can he repeat that?
    b) is it actually still better than a rotation?
