Roberto Firmino and Christian Benteke grab a goal apiece as Liverpool come from behind to see off Palace at Selhurst Park. Elsewhere, Salomon Rondon maintains his fine recent form by netting West Brom’s only goal against ten-man United at the Hawthorns.

Firmino form continues

In a stunning turn of events, ten-man Liverpool recovered from a one-goal deficit to seal a 2-1 win over Crystal Palace in the 96th minute.

Roberto Firmino drew the Reds level at the 72-minute mark, meaning he’s now tallied two goals and as many assists in three starts since operating in “the hole” – allaying concerns that his attacking potential would be curtailed by his switch from the lone-striker berth. In fact, no player has contributed to more goals (seven goals, four assists) than the 8.2-priced Brazilian in 2016, underlining his rise to prominence.

Those Fantasy managers in possession of Firmino will likely want to hold onto him ahead of Liverpool’s upcoming blank, considering that Gameweek 34 is a prime option for one of their future doubles.

In the absence of Daniel Sturridge – who was not deemed fit enough to take the field at Selhurst Park – Divock Origi was afforded his second successive start. Christian Benteke later replaced his compatriot and went on to convert from the penalty spot in the dying embers.

Having been sent off for two bookable offences in the capital, James Milner will be sidelined for Liverpool’s Gameweek 31 trip to Southampton, before returning to face Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield.

At the back, Nathaniel Clyne dropped to the bench for the first time this term as Jurgen Klopp allowed the fit-again Jon Flanagan a second straight start, with Alberto Moreno returning to the left-back berth. With rotation looking likely over the run-in, then, many Fantasy managers may be reluctant to invest in the Reds’ rearguard, with Simon Mignolet now perhaps the safest bet.

Eagles fall to defeat

Despite taking the lead through Joe Ledley – who bagged his maiden goal of the campaign – the Eagles were unable to capitalise on their one-man advantage, ultimately extending their winless streak to 12 matches. Given that Palace face off against Leicester, West Ham and Arsenal in a four-match spell beyond their blank next Gameweek, we’re unenthused by their differential potential.

To make matters worse, Yohan Cabaye was replaced at the 70-minute mark because of a knock, rendering him a doubt for the Foxes clash. Alan Pardew is also sweating over the fitness of Connor Wickham- the forward had netted back-to-back braces but missed out through injury yesterday.

Rondon in the goals again

Salomon Rondon – one of our differentials this Gameweek – notched his fourth goal in five starts (Sebastien Pocognoli assist) to guide West Bromwich Albion to their first home victory over Manchester United since the Premier League’s inception. Pitched at 6.5, the Venezuelan frontman is displaying great form of late and is well placed to punish the generous rearguards of Norwich City and Sunderland over the next three Gameweeks (ars, NOR, sun). That Arsenal match is subject to change, of course – if the Gunners prevail against Hull in tomorrow’s FA Cup replay, their weekend trip to the Emirates will need to be rescheduled.

As for the Baggies’ defensive output, they recorded their second clean sheet in four outings. By virtue of his security of starts and offensive threat, Craig Dawson (5.1) – who ranks third among defenders for shots inside the box (23) this term – remains our favoured route into West Brom’s back line, though the right-back was subbed off with a minor foot problem and requires assessing. With regards to their short-term shut-out prospects, the Canaries failure to net in four of the previous six Gameweeks is a positive sign.

Mata off as United stumble

In the wake of their defeat at The Hawthorns, the Red Devils have tasted victory in just one of their last eight road ties. That’s a pertinent fact when you consider that they embark on trips to Manchester City and Spurs in the three Gameweeks following their imminent blank.

Chris Smalling’s return to the starting XI served as a boost to Man United’s defence, yet they proved ill-equipped to compensate for Juan Mata’s dismissal in the 26th minute – the former Chelsea recruit was shown a second yellow card for a cynical foul on Steven Fletcher, ruling him out of an FA Cup encounter against West Ham.

Up top. Marcus Rashford was afforded a third straight start yesterday. Louis van Gaal re-installed Jesse Lingard to the first XI at the expense of Memphis Depay, who had previously started each of the last two – this saw Anthony Martial take up the left flank berth vacated by the Dutchman, with Lingard stationed on the right wing in United’s 4-2-3-1- set-up.

So presuming Arsenal win I have 10 players. Potential moves are:

    A) Payet - Silva/YYT
    B) Ozil - Silva/YYT
    C) Nyom - Bournemouth/Stoke defender

C is probably the sensible move to keep the other two, but a third City player would be nice with their fixtures.

    Thoughts?

I'm captaining Mahrez or Vardy this GW for the MNF match vs Newcastle.

Looking into some stats and returns of both players, home and away its obvious Mahrez produces more away from home...

    86 points home ( 4 goals - 7 assists)

    118 points away ( 11 goals - 4 assists)

Vardy however is a lot more consistent and produces similar points home & away...

    89 points home ( 11 goals - 2 assists)

    83 points away ( 8 goals - 4 assists)

Looking at the Newcastle team they have a lot of injuries particularly at the back with the likes of Saylor & Lascelles likely to fill in again. With Janmaat getting forward at every opportunity would leave space for Albrighton to run into and deliver balls in the box for Vardy. Shelvey will also no doubt get forward and stray from his position, leaving space for Drinkwater to operate in and slide balls through for Vardy to get on the end of.

All of this makes great reading for Vardy owners, or buyers in my opinion.

    tl:dr

    Vardy (c)

You could also look at this as Vardy has only scored 3 more points at home than Mahrez depite playing more minutes..

Yup, that's some nice reasoning, but Mahrez and Vardy's partnership has produced more goals than any other partnership so it could be that Mahrez is occupying Shelvey's vacated space pulling Saylor/Lascelles out of position to slot in Vardy or going himself, and with extra points / baps for being a mid, I would still prefer his explosiveness over Vardy's consistency.

Both great options but imo Mahrez wins the armband duel slightly.

Mahrez is more explosive and has more double figure hauls, no denying that. I just feel with the makeshift dodgy CB partnership of NEW it favours Vardy to exploit that more than Mahrez could do with the midfield space.

Very valid point BUT Vardy rarely gets hauls so yes maybe a goal but someone like Kane or Aguero will more then likely see a haul coming in so my (C) is firmly on Kane or Kun

So Mahrez is stronger away than at home, but even when he is at home he averages the same points as Vardy.

I'll probably captain Kun anyway to be honest

Agreed. I'll be a nervous wreck when I finally use that chip!

Still dead set on 15 DGW players? Do you really think 2 x Wijnaldum > 1 x Mahrez or 2 x Janmaat > 1 x Alderweireld? Especially when you have to live with the team in the subsequent weeks?

I know you're giddy at the thought of having 15 DGWs lined up at the start of the gameweek but is there no pragmatism in there...? 🙂

Mahrez will be toughest - so much money wrapped up in him and he's good....

Pretty set on 15 DGW players but it depends on how fixtures fall and what transfers I'd need to make after that. Leicester's last 3 fixtures aren't ideal (Everton should be okay) and by then the pressure could really be on!

Gotta ship either of Bellerin | Azpi | Jags
Keeping DGWs in the back of my mind:
    A. Jags (SOT sun)
    B. Bellerin (CPL WBA)
    C. Azpi (MCI liv)

Azpi looks the clear target, but hes got Villa and Swansea first. Jags got tougher fixtures. Thoughts?

Hey lads! Coming off my best GW of the season and looking good for GW30. Have 2 FTs in the bank and would like to at least use one to sure up my team.

    Butland - Schmeichel
    VVD - Rose - Williams - Ward - Francis
    Sanchez - Mahrez - Siggy - Payet - Alli
    Kane - Aguero - Vardy

    0.4M ITB

Having just read the Nicolas Otamendi 15/16 Performance Thread on the Bluemoon-forum, I'm starting to lean towards Kompany although the former's stats are better. Quite a few City fans crying out for him to be dropped and even sold in the summer.

He's just not been that good, you'd expect for the money they spend on him for him to be able to cope without Kompany, or try to be their new Kompany

Pepe will want his own men in key positions.

Managed 103 points this week, want to keep the good run going!

    Butland (Hennesey)
    Simpson Daniels Toby (Williams Bellerin)
    Mahrez Yaya Siggy Alli (Payet)
    Vardy Aguero Kane

1 FT, 5.2 ITB. What move should I make?
Would Alli to Eriksen be a good move?

      Not at all!

Eriksen is a great pick but so is Alli.

Thats a good team for GW30. Save.

Just seems to be some fitness concerns over Alli? And Eriksens stats recently have been superb

Just noticed that I'm only 37 points behind top5K. One good week from Siggy and Silva should do the trick.
