Sunday’s opening salvo delivers a pair of intriguing match-ups: there’s more than local pride at stake as the relegation-threatened Newcastle and Sunderland scrap it out at St James’ Park, while Southampton play host to an effervescent Liverpool outfit.

The Black Cats emerged victorious in the last six Tyne-Wear derbies but have registered a solitary win in their previous eight outings. That being said, only three teams mustered more attempts than Sunderland (62) in their past four head-to-heads, which bodes well for their attacking potential. Shifting our focus onto the Magpies, they managed a paltry three goals in their previous six outings and have just one clean sheet to their name in 14 fixtures.

At the Stadium of Light, Southampton will strive to stifle a Reds side that racked up 13 goals in their last quartet of matches. Balancing out their attacking exploits, Jurgen Klopp’s outfit also conceded the joint-second-fewest goals (three), second-fewest shots inside the box (16) and joint-second-fewest big chances (three). Investors in Liverpool’s defence will draw encouragement from the fact that Saints posted just six goals across the last seven Gameweeks.

LFC have conceded as many goals in 40 minutes with Martin Skrtel in the team than their previous 795 minutes without him.

Sturridge struggling with a knock? Was going to get him in. Might just get Wellbeck instead and roll the dice with Milner and Firmino.

Ive been following Mitrovic for a long time as a Serbian football fan. I knew he would be come a fan favorite when he joined the PL.
he'll be a factor next year, he is well suited for the league and has goals in him. Give him time.

Playing my wildcard this week - what do you think?

    ---------------Mingolet------Elliot--------------
    Clichy----Rojo-----Huth-----Clyne----Gabriel
    Mahrez---Payet-Sanchez-Yaya---Wijnaldum
    ------Aguero-------Martial-------Welbeck-----

    Can't decide between:
    a) Sturridge and Iwobi
    b) Welbeck and Wijnaldum

I want 3 liv players but struggling to decide given firimino injury … could always swap yaya out for firmino nearer gwk 34 so might swap clyne for someone else - maybe double up on city defence if i did that

Iwobi wont play regularly and Sturridge may have a knock. B but I dont like the fact it has a Newcastle player.

Thanks - agree with Iwobi - was trying to facilitate Sturridge in some way because he could be a good differential even in next two gameweeks

Skrtel and Klopp are the reason we lost that match, 2-0 up should have been 3 because of a crap lino we should not lose that match and henderson should have been put on at the 65-70 mins.

thats a massive blow for any chance we had for top 4 and Klopp is at fault
