Olivier Giroud returns to the scoresheet to nudge Arsene Wenger, Riyad Mahrez takes to the international stage to maintain his form, while Rafa Benitez counts Fabricio Coloccini out of Newcastle’s looming Canaries clash…

Giroud offers reminder

Olivier Giroud volleyed home from close range as France enjoyed a 3-2 win over Netherlands in an emotional night in Amsterdam, as fans and players remembered the recently deceased Dutch legend Johan Cruyff.

The Scout Says: In light of Danny Welbeck’s return from injury, Olivier Giroud has fallen down the pecking order at Arsenal, starting just one of the Gunners’ last four league ties. Welbeck, meanwhile, has repaid the faith invested in him by Arsene Wenger, notching three goals and one assist in three starts and two cameos. Priced at 7.3, Welbeck certainly represents an alluring option if he was guaranteed to start up top for both fixtures in the Gunners’ double Gameweek 34 (CRY, WBA). However, the fact he’s still not completely shaken off his knee injury and faces obvious competition from Giroud heightens his rotation risk during a period in which Arsenal embark on three matches in eight days.

United Pair Lay On Goals

Manchester United’s Anthony Martial and Memphis Depay earned assists for their respective nations as France secured an away win over Netherlands.

The Scout Says: In terms of harnessing Manchester United’s attacking potential in their double Gameweek 34 (AVL, CRY), Martial is our preferred selection at present. Although the 7.6-priced Frenchman failed to score in his previous three league starts, only four forwards have amassed more shots on target (five) in their last four outings. Marcus Rashford (three goals in four) catches the eye by virtue of his 4.5 valuation, yet Wayne Rooney’s imminent return negates his security of starts. Ultimately, Louis van Gaal’s side are still struggling to gain any attacking momentum (two goals in three) but will be confident after their Manchester derby victory and could well flourish against an Aston Villa outfit that has conceded more goals than any other side (59) and a struggling Crystal Palace side that is without a clean sheet since Gameweek 19.

Willian Back Amongst The Returns

Willian laid on the assist for Douglas Costa’s opener in a 2-2 draw between Brazil and Uruguay in their World Cup Qualifier.

The Scout Says: After delivering returns in just two of his last ten league appearances, Willian used Brazil’s qualifier to get amongst the assists once more. Despite drawing three successive blanks in the league, Willian has posted some impressive numbers across his last four outings, ranking second among Chelsea’s midfield for attempts (seven) and joint-second among all his counterparts for key passes (17). While Chelsea are not treated to a double Gameweek 34, their upcoming trip to Aston Villa could encourage Gameweek 33 wildcarders to secure a differential from the champions’ squad, with Willian a clear option.

Mahrez Figures in Algerian Rout

Riyad Mahrez continued his rich vein of form by earning a brace of assists for Algeria in a 7-1 rout of Ethiopia in their African Cup of Nations qualifying tie.

The Scout Says: Coupled with two goals in three league starts, Mahrez’s growing influence on the internationals stage acts as a timely reminder of the dangers of selling him in the pursuit of extra double Gameweek 34 assets. Mahrez tops the Fantasy Premier League ranks for points per game with a 7.2 average, illustrating his capacity to outscore potential replacements in a single outing. Moreover, the Foxes enjoy a promising home tie against Swansea City in Gameweek 35, which would put non-owners in a nerve-shredding scenario.

Coloccini Set to Remain Sidelined

Rafa Benitez revealed that Fabricio Coloccini is still contending with a calf complaint and is unlikely to be passed fit for Newcastle United’s crunch trip to fellow strugglers Norwich City in Gameweek 32:

“I think Norwich will be too close for him. He is undergoing treatment and he is improving but when you have been away for a while. You need to time to have match fitness again.”

The Scout Says: Assuming Daryl Janmaat can recover from the knee knock that forced him to withdraw from the Netherlands squad, the marauding right-back remains the choice route into the Magpies’ rearguard ahead of their double Gameweek 34 (SWA, MCI). Aside from being the most secure starter, Janmaat ranks joint-seventh among defenders for shots on target (seven) and joint-tenth for key passes (22). Newcastle managed just one clean sheet in their last 15 outings but have seemingly tightened up under the guidance of Rafa Benitez – they’ve yet to conceded a “big chance” with the former Liverpool boss at the helm. While that could bode well for the vital trip to East Anglia, Coloccini’s prolonged absence will come as a blow and those considering Janmaat for Gameweek 34 will be eager for the Argentine to make a return to at least offer Benitez more options in his troubled back four.

This is me for wildcard gw33 most likely.

    - Undecided if I should ship Mahrez for Bolasie and play with 10 players in gw35.
    - 0.8 itb

    Elliot - Robles

    Belle - Kos - Smalling - Rojo - Moreno

    Özil - Coutinho - Payet - Mahrez - Barkley

    Aguero - Lukaku - Mitro

I like it. Mitro is a bit of a punt that could work out well. Rest sound. Not sure about moreno game time.
I would go for DGWer - maybe bolasie or firmino instead of mahrez.

Thanks mate. Firmino instead of Mahrez could work well.

According to Klopp quotes Moreno should be pretty safe

I'd stick with Mahrez, consistent point scorer. No DGW's but no blanks either

    • 12 Years
    9 years, 10 months ago

Every discussion, eg the hot topic, always seems to be based on the assumption of not taking hits.

"You can't do this".... "We can't have that many"... "You'll be stuck with"...

Hits can work, and DGWs are the best time to take hits, surely. 😕

    1. S.Kuqi
      • 13 Years

If you plan carefully no hits are needed and for me taking hits rarely works

        • 12 Years
        9 years, 10 months ago

But even with planning, some things are impossible with DGW33 and blank 35 = compromise.

You're clearly doing them wrong. 😛

I've got a 4 pointer planned for heading into GW35, setting me up for 37. Makes total sense, will almost definitely pay off. But then I'm distinctly hit-happy compared to most of FFS. Got to speculate to accumulate...

    Morning all

I would appreciate your view on this.
I am going for DGW34BB and generally happy to avoid SGW - on WC now.
I am not that bothered by risk - ie not high OR / not in cash leagues.

    W/ KUN :
    roble eliot
    Belle. Flana/Moreno. Gabriel. Rojo. Ollson.
    Ozil. Coutinho. Firmino. KdB. Lazini.
    Aguero. Lukaku. Martial.

    Or//
    W/out KUN :
    roble eliot
    Belle. Ottam/clichy. Clyne. Rojo. Coleman.
    Sanchez. Coutinho. Firmino. KdB. Lazini.
    Welbeck. Lukaku. Martial.

Latter gives better overall DGW coverage.
Welbeck could be sturridge or deeney.
I know most seem to be keeping kun, but I slightly favour going without as greater BB potential.
    What do you think?

Not sure I've known such a set of circumstances like those for gw 33-35. The blanks in gw 35 are the spanner in the works.

It may mean taking some points hits but these have rarely worked this season. May have to hang on to Kane and Mahrez but really want 15 dgwers for bench boost.

CPL and Everton have spoiled the party considering the blanks.

    Love it......

Wow, Bellerin-Monreal is really strong. Walker is a bonus.

Love the team. Many will point out Lallana though but can't have them all. For me, Lallana is a great little player but I worry about his minutes in the DGWs. I dunno whether it was something with Rodgers but he seemed to be unfit very often in the first half of the season. When fit and playing, he will always be involved heavily.

I like it, Doos - your TV far outdoes mine, hence my need for compromises.

I'm keeping Mahrez and Kane, personally. I was thinking in place of Gabriel having Simpson instead, like you. Really good value for money; Gabriel is a weak link but if he's nailed he could be golden.

And I see you've gone with Lallana - I'm a bit worried about Liverpool rotation for GW34 so I've kept it to just Sakho and Mignolet. I can see most assets other than those only playing 1 game. Will definitely be getting Firmino / Cout in for 35, though!

    Hi all

What do you reckon this this WC draft?

    BB WC Team:
    Hennessey Mignolet
    Bellerin Sakho Smalling Janmaat Gabriel
    Bolasie Mahrez Ozil Lingard Payet
    Lukaku Kun Kane
    1.8ITB

GW35: Bolasie becomes Firmino and Lukaku becomes Pelle (#followtheVilla) for my XI in a 4-3-3.
GW37: Pelle becomes Lukaku again, and Bellerin (MCI away) becomes a DGW defender to compensate

    Any advice appreciated!

I know Doos - I just can't see past Lukaku Kun Kane, and from the main teams with DGWs I'd like key players who will play (United; Smalling / Liverpool; Migs, Sakho) so I'm kind of just trying to fit every contingency in. Any advice? - feel free to smash it to pieces 🙂

What are you rolling with? Decided yet?

Thanks for the reply in any case 🙂

          DGW 34(WC):

          Mignolet
          Bellerin, Monreal, Reid*
          Özil, Payet*, Lallana, Lanzini*
          Lukaku*, Agüero, Kane

          Gomes; Eriksen, Walker, Simpson … 0, 0.7 ITB, TC: 109.2, SV: 106.7

I think that you have to make your bed, and then lie in it.

I agree with your basic premise, as you can see. 🙂

I know what you mean, but I can't work out a way to factor in my transfers to ensure I can afford Firmino / Coutinho - I'd have to have Milner over Bolasie. Would rather keep it back to 35, just about!

Just for giggles, made the below Kun-less team, and the squad is powerful:

    ___________Robles Cech
    Simpson Sagna Cresswell Rojo Coleman
    __Payet Firmino Sánchez Özil Lanzini
    _______Martial Kane Lukaku

And this is not even optimal yet 0.6m ITB let alone the GW35 thingie, but lots of improvements can be done to this draft

But the thing is, the benching headache will split your head in half each week. In the DGW, it will split your head into 4 equal but gross parts.

    Save yourself. Have Kun.

This Public Service Announcement was brought to you sponsored by Sergio_Kun. (He has himself in his FPL team)

Like Mark said. It is not even the points in the team. It is just the fact that you might take your real-life family through hell for not having Kun after he explodes. Imagine the miserable feeling facing your family after downing 5 drinks 30 minutes after ManCity full-time.

And this is not even considering the condition of your heart during the match!

      I'm considering it.

A strong 15 should be worth it if you use BB on the DGW (34 for me).

GW35 is tricky as you don't want to sell many MUN/WHM/EVE. Having decent players in 15 may help here.

With CL involvement we could go thru this period with kun being subbed early with only one goal, and MCI goals more spread thru the team

I am weighing it up. May go without to see what happens. My ranks not precious.

    Firmino Triple Captain gw34?

Considering this. He's been on fire lately. Plays Bournemouth, who've decided that the best defense is a good offense, and then Everton, who will have played 3 games in the previous ten days, nothing to play for in premiership, and FA Cup semis a few days later, where they must think they have a great chance.

    Current team

    Schmeichel, Hennesey
    Kos, Smalling, VVD, Simpson, Otamendi
    Payet, Alli, Eriksen, Mahrez, Siggy
    Kun, Kane, Paloschi

    2 FTs 1.7 ITB

Is it worth using the wc to get to this

    Cech, Robles
    Kos, Rojo, Clyne, Sakho, Janmaat
    Ozil, Payet, Lanzini, Mahrez, Bolasie
    Kun, Lukaku, Martial

I would tc Lukaku in 33 and swap Bolaise for Firmino in 34

Same here but surely having Kane and Mahrez on your bench is stronger than anything you've had so far. It will be for me. I think 20 points is my highest bench score so far and i fully expect that to get bettered gw34. Presumably you'll have a DGW keeper to boost the score too

    Think I'm clearer now.....

WC 33 - 4DGW (Jagielka Lukaku Dann Hennessy)
    BB 34 - 14DGW (1SGW Mahrez)
35 - 8 Players with 2FT (Dann to Azpiliceuta hold second one as would be removing 37DGW)
    36 - use 1FT to get 37DGW player
    TC 37 - 9DGW with 2FT

    GW34
    Hennessy Hart
    Jagielka Rojo Bellerin Sakho Dann
    Sanchez Ozil Coutinho Payet MAHREZ
    Lukaku Aguero Rashford

    GW35
    Hart
    Bellerin Sakho Azpilicueta
    Sanchez Ozil Coutinho Mahrez
    Aguero
(Hennessy Jagielka Rojo Payet Lukaku Rashford)

    GW36
    Hart to DDG

    GW37
    DDG

    Coutinho Payet Firmino
    Lukaku (TC) Costa Rashford

Would you rather have Monreal or Koscielny heading into the DGW?

It has come to my attention that Monreal has only missed two games. One in the busy Christmas period (which is basically irrelevant) and the other in the NLD when he apparently had an injury.

The game he missed in the Christmas period was exactly 2 days after the previous game. Whereas in the DGW, they play on Sunday, Thursday and Sunday...

Thoughts on this GW33 wildcard with BB in GW34? Thanks in advance!

    Robles - Elliot
    Bellerin - Rojo - Jagielka - Simpson - Sakho
    Ozil - Mahrez - Firmino - Milner - Lanzini
    Aguero - Kane - Lukaku

Anyone still got a player they've had from the very start?
Huth for me but will probably swap him for Simpson on WC to free up some cash

Was Huth even in Leicester when you bought him? How did you come to select him?

Yup. He was cheap and thought Leicester would do well defensively after their strong finish to last season. Unfortunately I kept benching him when he got points, including for his goals. Learned my lesson though and have played him almost every week since his haul against Man city

I got Huth the week just before those 2 goals against ManCity, but benched him in that match. Logical decision at the time as I have better fixture for my other defenders so no worries. Fixtures have cleared up since then so have enjoyed his points thereafter. 😀

He was, I had him for 11 weeks and hated every minute of it.

At least his value has risen and you've got a DGW player already. Or is he just taking up a valuable slot 😉

I've played him for too many one or two pointers for that to be of solace.

Ha! I sold him last week for a 2 week point on Foster. That's not going too well either, especially as it now means I haven't got enough in the bank to get in Payet this week. Doh!

Meant to say 2 week punt on Foster but 2 week point will probably be a more accurate description!

I don't have a single player from the start now. But did the classic move of having Hennessey from GW1 and shifting to McCarthy to somehow get non-playing GKs for the entire season. Many are in the same boat as me I reckon. And I still have McCarthy so it is a 2nd choice Palace keeper for me for the entire season.:D

Pretty happy with the England team, maybe Stones over Cahill but looks sound 🙂

Barkley isn't much use at CM really, neither is Alli, his passing isn't good enough

Alli will play in the hole behind Kane.

yes I know, but if you play Barkely, you need to play him in the hole as he isn't much use at cm. But Alli isn't either, so you can really only play one or the other

That's not what you said though, you were comparing Alli and Barkley as alternatives to Henderson. Btw, Barkleys passing is massively superior to Hendersons if you do a comparison in the members area 😉

In fact Barkley is far superior in just about every dept

He's playing behind Kane like he does for Spurs, and that seems to work out well. + they'll interchange, Kane likes dropping deep and Alli likes going upfront.

Best option in your opinion for GW33 onwards?

    A. Mahrez - sun, WHM, SWA, mun, EVE, che

    B. Barkley - wat/cpl, SOT/liv,____, BOU, lei/sun, NOR

Bought Mahrez back late so both worth 7.1. My OR is around 24k.
