This week’s launch of the Fantasy Premier League game gave the community their first glimpse of the 2016/17 player price list.

Understandably, initial squad selection dominated our hot topics, while our community writers took a look at the best newcomers to the Premier League and unveiled plans to track FPL’s most experienced managers.

We also launched the first of our Rate My Team surgeries, looked at the community competitions that have launched and examined some key attacking statistics for those looking to draft in next season’s Golden Boot contenders.

The Community Articles

Thursday saw the launch of our first 2016/17 Rate My Team surgery, which offers a dedicated community article for those wanting their initial FPL squads rated. To start the series, I submitted my unsurprisingly dull selection, which pays particular attention to fixtures and flexibility.

Next season will see an expansion of Kavali’s Tracking the Veterans series, which monitors FPL’s most experienced managers and their decisions. For 2016/17 he is offering FPL stalwarts the chance to join the expanded group he is tracking and also the opportunity for less experienced managers to take them on.

Another returning regular community feature is The Puntmaster’s analysis of how next season’s Premier League players would have fared if FPL points were applied to their previous campaign, whether abroad or in a lower tier of English football.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

With the FPL player list available, a raft of posts followed, delving into the most eye-catching picks. As well as finding out who the best maverick and dullard players are, we also asked for your views on 2016/17’s top bargains, with Eden Hazardous urging investment in Bournemouth’s keenly priced winger Max Gradel.

Among the most popular early picks is Manchester United’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who has been selected by just under a third of FPL managers so far. Bowstring the Carp believes that, despite his 11.5 price tag, the Swede is set for an excellent debut Premier League campaign.

The same cannot be said for defensive midfielders, who once again look set to miss out on points under FPL’s scoring system. We asked whether it was time to finally reward these protectors of the back line.

Another set of players who may not offer value are those with a short fuse, who like to use colourful language in front of referees. This season the Football Association and Premier League have announced a crackdown on dissent, which, according to our hot topic, could mean suspensions for some of the most popular players among Fantasy managers.

To help FPL managers select the best attacking players, Berbinho’s Forehead has gathered a wealth of key statistics over the last three years. Ludo has also been collecting attacking data with the conclusion that combining shots on target and big chances are the best way to predict goals.

We discovered that expectations of success are running high, according to Dazzy’s hot topic asking for the community’s realistic rank expectations this season. Elsewhere, Zasa was on hand with some valuable advice to new posters to help them get noticed.

The Members Tables

To add to Ludo’s analysis, my table on shots on target and big chances gives an indication as to who last season’s key players were. This is worth bookmarking to keep tabs on who this season’s Golden Boot contenders may be. Our Members area’s most popular table, Doosra’s Deadly Assassins, provides further insight into the art of goal scoring.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Tournaments

Oghash is offering free FFScout membership to the winner of his Gameweek 1 score prediction competition. Among the community’s head to head contests is Jac the Cat‘s search for FPL’s top players to compete against each other.

Meanwhile, Red Lightning has announced the launch of his opening day and Top 10K any season leagues, in addition to asking for details about the community’s other leagues. Among those to answer the call were Torres Magic, with news of his Last Man Standing league, and Oghash, who unveiled his Dead Zone league.

If you are running a community tournament and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round Ups please email me a brief summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spread sheet or head to head competition, at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

Does ibra having no pre-season mean we avoid him for the first month?

Also, saw this suggesting him and Rashford will share gametime (with Rashford coming on as a sub a lot) http://www.espnfc.com/english-premier-league/23/blog/post/2915894/ibrahimovic-arrival-could-help-rashford-thrive-in-new-man-united-role

Forgive me, but I really can't understand for Luke Shaw. Yes, Ive always had a soft spot for him, being a left back with the same surname, but the amount of teams I have seen with him as the premium defender is phenomenal! He had the most horrendous injury possible and how many players do you know who's had that type of injury who's come back the same as before they were injured. Coupled with the fact that Utd have also got Blind, Rojo, Borthwick-Jackson and to a lesser extent Fosu Mensah and Young who all can play left back, surely Mourinho won't play him too often and rotate has much as possible especially with all the games Utd will be playing. I hope that I'm proved wrong but I will be monitoring situation over a number of weeks before rushing in. The Utd defence, for me, is really up in the air with the amount of personnel they have plus Smalling being suspended for GW 1. I feel there are far greater alternatives in the price range better than Shaw at present. Everyone's views would be much appreciated. I would love for someone to argue against this so that I could find a way to put Shaw in but it would have to be a very strong argument.

Same for Dortmund? I'm not disagreeing regarding your point, I just think that the percentage of teams who have put a 5.5 million pound defender in their teams is frightening considering that he hasn't played competitive football for 10 months.

    8. AA33
      10 years, 1 month ago

Shaw was out for around 10 months. With the pre-season games he will regain his fitness hopefully. I think he will play the league games and mou will play others in other competitions. As mourinho himself said that he wants specialists and not mere replacements

Would suggest that Rojo and Borthwick are specialist left backs and in my opinion Blinds best position is also left back. After 10 months out I can't see mourinho flogging him., a lot of money for a player with rotational risk.

Just can't see that many clean sheets. It's gonna be a far more attacking Utd than last season with martial, Rooney, pogba and mickyRyan flying forward supporting zlatan. That only leaves scheidlin or carrick helping out the defence.

how much is a reasonable amount to enter into a cash league?

I guess it depends on how many people are entering right? Do people enter many cash leagues from twitter and if so which ones?

also how much do you pay if you don't mind asking to enter.

Be careful Bemba. It's the stuff that sleepless nights are made of,

If you do just remember you are only playing against the teams in your league...not 3.5 million others.

Local lad is going to run one for 20 that pays out about 400/500 and the last few seasons I never realised he was running it. Would have won it last year 😡

I have rules for leagues I enter.

Basically I look at what is going to be break even point in the league.

      This is important.

Rule one of gambling: don't lose money.

There needs to be a decent split in the prizes for places and I don't really want too big a pool of entrants to have a mathematically good chance of cash out. But then my chance is greater. I think of my buy ins in relation to prizes am I getting 2/1 on my dough for 3rd say? Am I getting 7/1 my dough for winning etc etc

Just seen a video on Sky of the Munich gunman and he appears to be white. Not great quality though.

a white man killed an MP in the uk because she was in favour of refugees and Europe. could angry right-wingers not act out in Germany in the same way? wondering why it is so hard to believe the gunman could be white?

I'm sure some unnamed 'eye witness' will claim he shouted "Allahu Akbar", give it time.

Imo people are directing their rage at immigrants instead of the governments (that claim to protect them) who bombed the crap out of these places for the last 30 years

      Naturally you'd expect this reaction

Unfortunately, media will tell you its a muslim islamist.. and everyone will believe in it..
If muslims were terrorists, imagine we are surrounded by 1.4 billion muslims worldwide.. the world would have been doomed by now..

They apparently shouted "F*** foreigners" during the attacks, so presumably we're not looking at an Islamic extremist attack, but it's all pretty fuzzy at the moment.

All governments are trying to hide behind the Islamic extremist to bail themselves off all violence taking place..
Easy to turn all the population's attention toward Islam instead of finding the root cause.

People don't do these things unless they want to and i think that religious fanatasism is just an excuse. They are wanting to do something that makes their lives into a great statement, and some people are inclined to want to make that statement in blood. It reminds me of Fight Club.

This is my front 8 for the first five gameweeks. Please rate on a scale of 1 to 10
    Mahrez Alli Bolasie Bojan Fletcher
    Aguero Costa Lukaku

5, but difficult without seeing the defence. Having Aguero is a personal decision with obvious pros and cons (I'll go without myself)... BUT having him AND both Lukaku and Costa leads to a poor team structure and inflexibility once you need to make transfers. Maybe choose one of the two above and get Long/another cheapish forward? Like the Mahrez pick. Bolasie and Bojan are both good punts but having both is a risk.
