Friday lunchtime has us turn to the Sky Sports game as we take a look back at the previous set of fixtures, before preparing you for the forthcoming Gameweek.

We’ll examine the recent run of Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, the bonus point beneficiaries, transfer trends and Watchlist, before moving on to the Scout team and our future plans.

Gameweek 23 Man of the Match Awards

These were the players who caught the eye of the Sky Sports reporters and earned an extra five points as a result.

Fixture MoTM
Huddersfield vs West Ham Marko Arnautovic
Watford vs Southampton Troy Deeney
Newcastle vs Swansea Kyle Bartley
Crystal Palace vs Burnley Timothy Fosu-Mensah
Chelsea vs Leicester Harry Maguire
West Brom vs Brighton Craig Dawson
Tottenham Hotspur vs Everton Son Heung-min
Bournemouth vs Arsenal Callum Wilson
Liverpool vs Man City Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
Man United vs Stoke Paul Pogba

Harry Maguire (11%) was the most popular player to win the accolade in Gameweek 23.

The Leicester City defender has successive clean sheets ahead of a favourable three fixtures (WAT eve SWA) and a trip to Man City before the Overhaul becomes active.

The twinkle-toed centre-back has two goals and two MoTM awards for the season, so could be a wise addition.

The second most owned player featured is Paul Pogba (10%); his 16-point Monday night haul will have been captained by many Fantasy managers, making the Frenchman’s impact probably the most significant in the Gameweek.

Gameweek 23 Bonus Points

Let’s take a look at any player to earn 35 points or more in bonus for the season.

Overall points: 1928
Rank: 190th

Notes

A slight drop in rank despite a respectable 77 points – mainly due to Paul Pogba netting 32 points as captain for my rivals – until then I’d been hovering just outside the top 100.

I missed out on Pogba, but Phil Jones still got 14 points and I kept a transfer back, so I’m in a fairly good place considering that I’m attempting to bank my trades ahead of the February Overhaul in four weeks’ time.

One transfer I’m very glad I made was to bring Mohamed Salah back into my squad – despite initially considering waiting until this coming Gameweek.

The Egyptian netted 13 points and is so highly-owned it would have killed my overall rank had I not backed down. However, removing Christen Eriksen could still hurt me on Sunday as the Dane has sustained his convincing form.

As mentioned, I’m hoping to make it to the Overhaul without spending any further transfers.

But some players are on thin ice, with Jonjoe Kenny and Nick Pope possibly losing their first-team berths soon, while Eden Hazard, David Silva and Andreas Christensen have had their minutes limited of late.

If I have to use a couple then so be it, but if I can get to Gameweek 28 with 11 or more, I’ll be very happy, given the average transfer data listed above.

Captain Plan
Sat 20th – De Bruyne (NEW)
Sun 21st – Kane (sot)
Mon 22nd – Salah (swa)

Early thoughts on next weeks transfer(s) (in the event there are no injuries/suspensions):

    A) Son > Arnie (bank 2m)
    B) Son > Sane
    C) Son > Mahrez
    D) Son, Quaner > Mili/Ibe + Vardy (-4)

Personally, A (already currently have Son & Arnie).

I sympathise with your dilemma. Much as Son is in form, I already have Kane and I can't see any way to justify keeping double Spurs attack through their upcoming fixtures (especially with rotation likely for cups).

Have both RLC and DCL, need to get rid of both, but who to start with?

    Which is better?

A- DCL > Wilson (bench Ogbonna)
B- DCL > Okazaki (bench Ogbonna)
    C- RLC > max 5.1 and play Ogbonna (4-4-2)

I am one of the few that is pretty excited (from a fpl perspective).

Might do a relatively straight swap for Aguero in a couple of weeks. Could be a great differential and an opportunity to go against the template.

For FPL, not just yet. Might only look at him after a couple of gameweeks, or perhaps even beyond GW28. If I were a MUN fan, mixed emotions. Finances are mind-boggling (probably rules out another big attacker like a Griezmann or Dybala for them in the summer), and a long term deal for player of his age is always a gamble.

I can't understand the hate he's getting. One of those players like, dare I say it, Suarez, whose endless positivity and enthusiasm to get the ball and make things happen has dragged Arsenal up by the throat for several years now. He's 29. Say what you want about the money, but as one of the finest players around he just can't be hanging about any longer playing in the Europa league.

His recent petulance and pushing for a move pales in comparison to what he has done for the team

He has lots of games coming, maybe playing time a worry, could be off around 70 minutes played if Pep decides to protect him a bit. But yes, Kun vs New at home definitely should deliver.

      I wouldn't be shocked.

Attacking points are scored by more sources in the City side, compared to Spurs/Liverpool and Kane & Salah have shown much better form recently.

I have all three - but am not really considering Aguero as a captaincy option. Probably a decent shout, but Kane is flying again and Salah is consistent and against Swansea.

Purely based on his recent performances - just not playing like the Aguero of old in the current system. Giving him a couple of weeks and then selling.

      Well,

      Kane is a better striker

Thanks all! Yep, it's a tough one this week, so will go with my gut.

I think there's an argument that away games are better for attackers since the home team has the incentive to attack so more space for counters

Have had it on Kane all week but considering Sterling too.

Koscielny and Monreal back means that Arsenal will or will not keep a CS?

After a long week and a horrific season I still own Morata who I just realized is suspended this GW.
    A) Morata > Firmino
    B) Morata > Aguero

A - template move which spares more cash
B - A real captaincy option this week

    Thoughts ?

    1. MTPockets
      8 years, 7 months ago

I did A for your reason, but think Aguero's the better pick all else equal.

Firminio has 3 double digit scores in his last 4 away games. (13,12,11,1)

How's this looking heading into the GW :-

    Courtois
    Macguire / Otamendi / Daniels
    Pogba / Son / Salah / Sterling / Lingard
    Kane / Firmino

Elliot / Mee / Okazaki / Mariappa - I know the bench is pretty weak.

    Probably Captain Kane or Sterling.
