Neither of the Russia-bound nations in international friendly action were able to find the net on Wednesday night.

Senegal and Morocco both played out 0-0 draws against lesser opposition, teaching Fantasy managers more about their defences than their attack.

We’ve got all the important details from both matches.

LUXEMBOURG 0-0 SENEGAL

A host of past and present Premier League names were left on the bench as Senegal were held to a frustrating goalless draw with minnows Luxembourg.

Star man Sadio Mane watched on from the sidelines, joining the squad late following his involvement in the Champions League final with Liverpool.

Meanwhile, Stoke City pair Mame Biram Diouf and Badou N’Diaye were brought on at half-time before former West Ham United striker Diafra Sakho made a 25 minute substitute’s appearance.

Senegal completely dominated Thursday night’s meeting in Luxembourg, lacking the clinical edge to finish their hosts off.

The Teranga Lions enjoyed 71.6% possession and fired off 13 shots to Luxembourg’s two. However, only four of those were on target.

AC Milan striker M’Baye Niang, Monaco’s Keita Balde and Villarreal midfielder Alfred N’Diaye had the best chances of the first-half but couldn’t find a breakthrough.

Diouf’s introduction at half-time added some pace but Luxembourg goalkeeper Anthony Moris proved the hero as he made a string of saves to keep things level.

The only encouraging sign for Senegal was that the match represented their seventh clean sheet in eleven international matches.

Senegal XI (4-4-2): K N’Diaye; Wague, Kouyate, Koulibaly (Sane 45’), Ciss (Gassama 45’); Sarr (Sakho 65’), Gueye (B N’Diaye 45’), A N’Diaye (N’Doye 69’), Keita (Diouf 45’); Konate, Niang.

MOROCCO 0-0 UKRAINE

Morocco manager Herve Renard experimented with a three-man defence and deployed attacking midfielder Hakim Ziyech as a striker in a 0-0 draw with Ukraine.

Juventus centre-back and national team captain Medhi Benatia was taken off at half-time to keep him fresh, while Real Madrid’s Achraf Hakimi featured only as a substitute in light of his involvement in the Champions League final.

Even though the Atlas Lions failed to find the net there were impressive performances from Ziyech, who twice had chances well-saved by goalkeeper Andriy Pyatov, and defender Hamza Mendyl.

The Lille wing-back provided the cross for one of Ziyech’s efforts and made an important tackle to deny Ukraine’s best opportunity of the match when Marlos broke free in the second half.

Following the goalless stalemate in Geneva, Renard’s side is now unbeaten in 16 matches having kept clean sheets in 10 of them.

Ukraine manager Andriy Shevchenko said Morocco were “well organised, sharp and (playing) with good players.”

Renard will be hoping that another well-earned shut-out will give them the confidence to surprise Spain and Portugal in Group B later this month.

MOROCCO XI (3-4-1-2): Munir; Benatia (Hakimi 45’), Da Costa, Saiss; N Amrabat (Fajr 72′), El Ahmadi (Ait Bennasser 72’), Boussoufa (Bouhaddouz 64’), Mendyl (S Amrabat 83’); Belhanda; Ziyech, Boutaib (Harit 45’).

Also says player prices will change after the group stages. Doesn't that kill the bench boost in the round of 16 because of a bigger budget argument?

It's always said that - I think its generally assumed that the price rises won't be big enough to nullify the benefits of the bigger budget.

No - it's just a for fun/ pride community tourney - it'll be the same sort of format as this (below), and I've already updated the spreadsheet at the bottom of the article if anyone wants to have a look.

Just going to let people use them as they please, either individually or as a team, because that leaves everyone on a level playing field. If anything it might produce a nice sample size to look at what the best option for using them was.

I'll let everyone know how to get involved on the 7th. What do you mean by divide - hopefully 3 people will each 'represent' one of the 32 nations at the WC and this will be done by emailing me to join one of the teams, either as a pre-organised 3 or as an individual.

With 96 initial spaces and then a waiting list which could see each team go up to 4 people each, there should be enough room for everyone who wants to play.

That’s obvious. But people will email with the teams they want to be in. How many want to be in Senegal or Japan?

Not necessarily - many people enjoy adopting a smaller team for the tournament and it wasn't a problem last time. It's entirely first come first served and whoever takes up the spots on the big teams first has them - from there I will try and allocate everyone where they want to be, but if it isn't possible you will end up wherever there is space - whether that's Germany or Panama.

                        True.

I’ve never been part of it before so I imagine all the elites will be snaffled up first with me just being on the list available for anybody if needed

Fantasy Football Scout Daily Hot Topic

With the World Cup beginning in two weeks, who are you most looking forward to having in your Fantasy squad? Will you be hoping to load up on the elite players with cheap options around them, or will you spread the cash more evenly?

Messi, Ronaldo, Neymar, Salah, Griezmann, and a few more could all turn out to be essential. Who is at the top of your list? Is there anyone you will be avoiding?

How much is captaincy playing into your decision about which elite players to pick?

    1. Fantasy Gold
      • 12 Years
      8 years, 4 days ago

Messi, Griezmann, Jesus frontline then just try to fill in the gaps 🙂

    2. FFFrog
      • 10 Years
      8 years, 4 days ago

Planning on trying to fit in 2 premium mids (Isco, James) in, as well as 2/3 strikers premium strikers (Lukaku, Werner, Jesus if possible). This will give me premium attacking options to captain on at least 4/6 Gamedays, which hopefully should be enough to see a brace.

If Messi and Ronaldo come in at the obscene prices they have previously on these games, then I'll avoid and use the money to get premium defenders in. I plan on avoiding Salah and France's attacking options - no guarantee on when he'll come back and I don't trust France's rotation, lack of talisman and the strong defenses they're playing in GW2 and 3.

Premium defenders will always get points in these short tournaments, so I plan on trying to double up on any of Uruguay, Spain, Colombia and Germany's defense to get some easy points.

A lot will depend on prices and how many elite players I can fit in.

Ronaldo, Griezmann & Neymar/Jesus on top of my shopping list.

I don't think there's such as thing as essential in a cup competition. They can all be knocked out in a heartbeat.

But yeah I'll be looking straight towards Messi as I suppose most people will be. He could be making strides towards stealing the Ballon D'or right at the death.

Messi, Isco, Werner, James, Griezmann, Jesus the top players that I want. Won’t be able to afford all though.

Spain & Brazil’s defence looks the best but will come at a very premium price.

Some mid-priced options from Columbia & Uruguay look appealing too.

Keylor Navas at the top of my GK list - not all that sure why either.

Pochettino saying he's happy at Tottenham at a book signing in Barcelona. Doesn't sound like he's going at all.

A tier 1 Spurs ITK also said not to worry about Pochettino a few hours ago.

    Staying at Spurs then.

Yes. He didn't say outright "I'm not joining Real Madrid", more along the lines of he's not going to force a move.

Anyway, when the top Spurs ITK says not to worry about Pochettin I'm not worrying about him going. He's been around for years, and in my eyes he's 100% trustworthy.

Not sure how a mysterious "Spurs ITK" would know what RM are planning. If RM want him, they'll more likely than not get him.

He obviously can't know what RM are planning, but if he's confident Pochettino stays then I take it as gospel. Over the last 5-10 years he's proved his info is good, I'm fairly confident he's working at the club (or at least very close). He's not speaking a lot these days though, the club have tightened up lately.

I'm just passing it on, you can obviously take it with a pinch of salt.

        Some quotes.

“I live in the present, there is nothing more important than that. I enjoy what is happening and what will be, will be. Jorge Griffa once told me that I must let football take me, that I do not want to change my destiny.”

"I've just renewed (my contract) with Tottenham and I am happy."

When asked about how Levy might react if he leaves:

        "Careful. Levy can bite!"
